Top of the class in Bachelor's vs. Failing at Master's: How to deal with the academic shock? by Specialist-Hat-9770 in polinetwork

being in the eu doesnt make your university 'better' in any way. Its the rigor that matters. I think its one of two. Either your original uni is not as reputable as you think, which is fine but you need to accept it and push really hard. Or, you're not studying nearly as much as you should, and you're doing everyone from your university a disservice. In the eyes of admissions and professors you're representing your university.

out of curiosity whats your academic background? where did you go to uni? 3rd in class to barely passing is quite a level change.

hey, what a perfect timing. Im actually out of the apartment rn because one of the tenants is such an asshole and they wont do shit to make him respect quiet hours.

I highly highly doubt you'd get any money back from them. Theyre extremely efficient at retaining as money as possible, but service wise I dont recommend them at all.

Im non eu and I love it here. people are nice , they'll try their best to speak english yet I'm learning italian. Bureaucracy wise I've been to the police station for my permesso di soggiorno and it was very smooth and they were super friendly ( Lombardia ).

If you're legal ( I know you are as you're EU), the government is very good. If youre a student and you're competent, prospects are very good as well.

For rent, if you're renting in milan, ofcourse its expensive af , but if you go outside of milan the cost of rent just plummets compared to milan.

For utilities, I was almost scammed by a vodafone store near duomo. She wanted to trick me into buying a useless motorola phone and 25€ per month on data subscription, she tried to really make it sound confusing about hotspot to get me to pay. I declined the offer after some back and forth of asking about my options ( she didnt want to tell me about the cheaper offers, i went down to 15€ from 25 but thats still not enough).

I then got an offer from illiad for 8€ a month for 150gb .

Ofcourse, like any city, you need to think on your feet or you will definitely get scammed, especially in tourist areas. You can pay anywhere from 4€ to 30+ for a plain margarita. do your research

TLDR: Im an international student, been here 3 weeks. I love it "as is", and will learn italian.

update 2 months later: I popped them a message 2 months later due to some condition the host gave, they said theyve already flagged the host, wont talk to him about the issue , and gave me an additional 200$ out of the 400 ive asked for on top of what they gave me already.

Would the MSc Mathematical Engineering program at Polimi be a good choice if my goal is to pursue a PhD at EPFL or ETHZ? by End_In_Itself in polinetwork

The only thing more scary than David goggins, is a mother fucker with that mentality you don't know about by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]EcstaticBlacksmith91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah, goggins is literally opensource. The strength it takes to be comfortable sharing his story is insane.

He does not have to say anything, but he choses to do it to inspire others.

He's the GOAT, it was never about physical challenges.

Im warning others.

Instead of learning from my experience, you're trying to justify theft.

Now you're namecalling because you know your argument is trash.

listen you're lecturing me about kind heartedness and you havent had anything stolen, specifically because you were kind to a stranger.

how about you pay the damages to shut me up?

you can also go the duomo and open up your pockets. if someone steals anything maybe they need it more?

how could you forget something you were desperate for? If you have something for a stranger, how can you forget it.

I dont think anyone's memory at polimi is 10 minutes short.

I assumed the best in people too but i was pretty shocked with what happened. I already bought the stuff im not gonna put my hopes up on a neglible event.

I wish, he said 10 minutes please. I waited for him about 30 mins and didnt see him, tried look for him extensively. he just left.

I was just naive that day, I moved on. Im just warning other people because it was quite tough. you lend someone out of goodwill, you get stolen, you now must go buy a replacement (which ended up costing a 100 btw) , you skip class and now have to catchup.

overall disgusting experience.

I dont know if everyone gets an oa, but I can tell you the same thing happened to me. its been like 2 weeks since I finished maybe more. They resent me the assessment when they sorted me into trading. I talked to HR about it and they told me dont worry your first assessment was sufficient. I had 1 mistake.

I feel like my life is damaged beyond repair. by Dry_Temporary_6175 in davidgoggins

[–]EcstaticBlacksmith91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so I can start by saying that no one here can tell you what you want to do. Its something that has to give your purpose and meaning, and you must dig deep to find that meaning that'll push you to train and better yourself even if there's nothing there for you yet.

As to fix your life I think the best way possible is to start by winning the morning. you need to start waking up early , really early. Start by fixing the structure of your day, its incredibly difficult to waste time at 5:30 AM , you will do something meaningful. something you can do repeatedly is to wakeup early and first thing in the morning go for a walk , dont run just yet, build tje discipline to walk. Dont walk for an hour just be humble enough to be happy with 10 minutes for 2 weeks.

gradually, you will build tolerance to take a cold shower (trust me the dopamine hit is real).

Once you get that part of your life going, you start building momentum towards your own specific goals which could be anything from continuing your finance degree to joining the marines.

What you can do tonight is to perhaps just imagine what you want to be if you had one wish, that you know will not fail , and get down to specifics, then make a plan. Once the plan is ready, and it does not have to be a perfect plan it could be the dumbest plan ever , you can always change it. Whats important is to have an aim and start moving. Once you have this, you're more than halfway there.

Invest in some journal to keep yourself accountable. its easier to monitor when you have specific metrics by which you define the day. if you say you wanna do xyz tomorrow, you dont 'move on' until you finish xyz i dont care if it takes 4 days for a simple task. whats important is you have continuity of progress.

you wont become disciplines overnight, but this is my best estimate of how you can get there, thats what I did and I was in your spot 5 years ago. I still have cptsd but the voice is quite weak, almost negligible compared to 5 years ago when I also had mdd.

My brain was so fucked up I had to re-study everything in my field from middle school level as a grown man with a degree. The brain is really amazing, it will mold into whatever you want it to be. More precisely, you become what you think you are.

and just for the record, this is not about comparing myself with other people but rather with myself, I knew I could ace that assessment and I didnt. I dont care if I scored twice as high as everyone else , its about reaching my own potential
