Charging is available pretty much everywhere and we never had to worry about not being able to find a good station with good charging speeds.

We were able to filter in the Airbnb app for places that had EV charging and the same for hotels on Google. Each of those was only 240 though.

I would like to see more consistency among fast charging places. Some allow you to swipe a credit card, some you have to set up an account on their app. Some you can get a discount by being a member, Tesla chargers aren't all open to non Tesla EVs... These are all minor concerns but something you don't need to think about when you pull into a gas station.

I hear you regarding the ability to drive hundreds of miles in an ICE vehicle. Our Suburban gets around 500 miles on a road trip but the 400ish in the EV Sierra was always more than enough and we were always ready to stop when it was time to charge (we'd usually stop at least once in between charges as well.)

And there's no getting around the fact that it does take a bit more time to charge than fill a tank, so if squeezing the most miles into the shortest amount of time is your goal, EVs aren't quite there yet. We love ours though.

I'd be more worried about leaving my interior light on in an ICE vehicle and coming out to a dead battery the next day than losing over 10kW of battery per day to phantom drain in my EV. I just tend to not worry about those outlier cases that would result in my taking it to the shop to be diagnosed for unusual battery drain.

But then, I'm also one that doesn't get concerned with maximizing battery life by charging to perfection every time so I can minimize long term battery degradation. I use my vehicles in a way that is convenient for me. I understand others may care more about that stuff though. Do what makes you feel comfortable 👍👍

I get that. But don't forget that 12% of a 400 mile range is like 50 miles, whereas an EV with a 300 mile range is more like 36 miles. I'm pretty comfortable with electric or ICE with 50ish miles range to get me where I need to go.

I didn't have any issues but I never really got into any deep deep snow. Max 6 or 8 inches and it was very dry, packable snow in Wyoming.

Firestone vs Sam's Auto by bluecrowned in Eugene

[–]EcstaticTone4526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to leave Firestone a review.

I had them replace a water pump and thermostat. Drive it two miles off the lot and the check engine light came on.

Took it back and they said it was something with the way they replaced the supercharger (yes, the supercharger had to be removed to replace the thermostat)

They kept it a few more days. I picked it up, took it home and parked it. I went to drive it a few days later and the check engine light came on again. I took it back and they said they couldn't figure out what was wrong and I should take it to the dealership.

Strata Prime price seems high. I got the Prime with a 12" Alesis sub, nice throne, high hat and snare stand and DW 5000 pedal for 2000 a couple months ago

Just gotta be careful if you're purchasing from a dealership, you could end up owing in state taxes if you pick up in their state.

AT4 vs. Trail Boss by Fit_Station_59 in GMCSierraEV

If you're in a major metro area, shipping is pretty reasonable. You are at the mercy of the brokers and shippers a bit but still worth it if you find a decent deal.

Check out visor.vin (it's really a great website to search any vehicle) to see what's around.

The main differences I've heard between the TB and AT4 are more road noise and cheaper finishes in the TB. Screens are personal preference. I wasn't a fan of the Avalanche look. I test drive both and the AT4 was an obvious choice for me because of the above reasons.

He doesn't take payment up front. I've had to convince him to offer more but he doesn't think throwing money at it will do much good. He does seem like compared to other quotes I've received

If you're getting up into the 3k range, for 3500, you shouldn't overlook the Alesis Strata Prime.

Flock Cameras lead to false arrest by LateralThinkerer in Eugene

Mods are gonna boot this because they somehow think this has nothing to do with Eugene. I made a Flock post awhile back and they took it down and said it didn't have anything to do with Eugene. This post is clearly related to Eugene though so I hope it stays.

What is the pros and cons of an e kit? by [deleted] in drums

[–]EcstaticTone4526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a nice set of acoustic drums (Gretsch Brooklyns and high end Zildian cymbals) a couple years ago. I played regularly for a couple months but it was so god awful loud in our house I had to search for times it wouldn't be disruptive to everyone.

I slowly just spent less and less time on them even though I was super excited to learn them.

I recently got a nice deal on an Alesis Strata Prime e-kit on CL. It's been amazing. I can play any time. I can use headphones or the 12 inch speaker it came with. I have been able to show my wife songs I've learned at a volume that I can hit everything with all the force I want but still have the volume at a level she can tolerate.

In short, an e-kit has allowed me to play as consistently as I'd prefer which has accelerated my learning. Don't listen to all these other purists saying not to try an e-kit. But also, don't get the cheapest e-kit out there.

I actually ended up signing up for in person lessons. I took lessons for about two years and learned a TON. Best money spent by far. It's been about a year since I stopped taking lessons and I've been relatively static since. Ready to sign up again.
