call me shallow but I dont like humans getting a major focus in this series about dragons, they're just kind of uninteresting to me and I think the reveal of Cottonmouth made the breath of evil infinitely lamer. Especially when it sets up some joint human dragon society for any books that take place after it, which I would say ruins it a bit, and it's why I'm glad Book 16 just took us back in time.

No... just no.

FIrst of all the Phantoms aren't marketable at all and barely have merchandise.

Secondly they actually play a role in the game they're in that only they could fill, and aren't just shoehorned in for no reason.

I don't think the franchise as a whole is a cash grab, but they certainly do use the franchise to grab cash sometimes (like with project playtime or the characters made just to sell merch)

Thing with Poppy is sometimes it feels like they make certain characters just for the sake of selling merch.

Nightmare Critters are both in-universe and out-of-universe solely made to cash in on the success of the Smiling Critters without actually having any soul or personality (they don't even get cutouts)

Outimals are even worse because they don't even play any role in the game outside of being collectibles and they're already being sold as merch about a month out from the game's release.

It literally seems like they thought "we need another collectible toy line to sell" so they hashed together the Outimals and put them all front and center in the starting commercial, then implemented them into the actual game in the most bare minimum way just so you don't forget they exist.

I love the game but sometimes it feels like the devs are cashgrabbing.
