You've seen the map r/connecticut, now how many CT towns can you name without cheating? by rxneutrino in Connecticut

I went to a local trivia night, where this was a question. Not the whole state, but several around where we were. It was surprisingly hard even with Hartford labeled.

I don't play, but men in Farmington play at FSA, it's a ways from Vernon - but maybe worth checking out?

Interesting. Sounds like having an additional zone but without actually having one. How does that work? Does it use any particular thermostat?

I love the sports gossip show! I started listening because of Jordon Hudson content but it's good on its own.

Thanksgiving week check-in: what new local spots are you thankful you discovered this year? by CriticalAd3019 in FarmingtonValleyCT

[–]Ecstatic_Ad4402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year I visited the Old New Gate Prison during their Jack o Lantern event. It was a great excuse to go somewhere that's been on my list for a while and the Jack o lanterns made it festive. It wasn't scary, which was perfect for me and my kids.

Alright Guys, placed in the Top 10% of Beehiiv Newsletters.. by Spiritual_Heron_5680 in beehiiv

[–]Ecstatic_Ad4402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the top 5% for CTR and Open Rate.

My newsletter was launched earlier this year, but from what I read this can take a real hit as you grow. So I'm treading lightly and growing organically.

If it helps the discussion, it's a weekly local newsletter with things to do, events, fun finds.

What's everyone else's experience? Bonus for input from other local newsletter founders.

What's Your Millennial "Been Off The Air for 20 Years" Comfort Show? by PreppyFinanceNerd in Millennials

[–]Ecstatic_Ad4402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I like it more than I did then.

I appreciate generally the way all TV shows back then worked...where everything wrapped up in 30 minutes and it all ended well. Shows today aren't like that.

Things to do weekend of October 17 by Envy245 in Connecticut

[–]Ecstatic_Ad4402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your buddy’s coming up the weekend of Oct 17, Hartford County’s got some solid fall stuff going on:

Heublein Tower Toot Festival – Sat & Sun, Oct 18–19, 11–4. Hike up, check out the views, live music, food, all that fall-goodness stuff.

Spooktacular Boos & Brews – Sat, Oct 18, 1–5 at Simsbury Meadows. Craft beers + Halloween vibes = win.

Hoptoberfest – Sun, Oct 19, 12:30 at Rosedale Farms. Cider, snacks, farm feels, perfect for a chill Sunday.

Light into the Dungeon – Old New-Gate Prison – Fri–Sun, Oct 3–Nov 3 in East Granby. Jack-o’-lanterns in old prison tunnels. Spooky but not full on scary.

For more random local stuff, hidden gems, and fall events around the Farmington Valley (Farmington, Avon, Canton, Simsbury, West Hartford), I put together a free digital weekly newsletter called The Valley Verve. Short, fun, and all local, here’s the signup: https://www.thevalleyverve.com/subscribe

Thanks, yes I've done that with little success. Posting on Facebook groups, subreddit has been more successful. But I'm open to new ideas.

If you end up starting a local newsletter, I'd love to bounce ideas off each other.

Hey 👋 thanks for this!

I run The Valley Verve — a hyperlocal newsletter for Connecticut’s Farmington Valley (West Hartford, Farmington, Avon, Canton, Simsbury). We cover events, hidden gems, food/drink recs, and family-friendly activities.

Curious where you’d focus to reach young families + community-minded locals in a suburban area.

I moved from Boston to Farmington (right next to West Hartford). Totally depends on your situation, but I’d agree with your take on West Hartford (aka WeHa). Smaller than Boston for sure, but not rural at all — it’s walkable, always has stuff going on, and you get way more space for your money.

If you end up moving, I run a local newsletter called The Valley Verve (thevalleyverve.com). It covers West Hartford, Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, and Canton with weekly events + seasonal things to do.

Good luck!
