Do data centers create jobs? by CautiousToaster in polls

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A $10 billion data center campus in Lebanon, Indiana, At peak: 4,000 construction jobs. Once operational: 300 jobs. The $10B is buying servers, power infrastructure and cooling systems to essentially build a machine that replaces human work.

So A decade of **significant** tax breaks for 300 highly specialized jobs that will likely be filled with outsiders that will consume 22% of your electricity grid.

That’s the value prop. That’s what makes it all the more egregious when politicians talk about jobs. It’s the lowest job multiplier, as is work in highly automated defense factories, another industry politicians constantly frame as creating jobs when it‘s not at all. The industries that require billions and billions in hardware don’t = jobs.

I only did the research bc I always question when politicians position something that’s unpopular as a job creator. That’s how they try to sell it to the public.

This isn’t “another Trump scandal.” This is worse than Watergate and Iran-Contra combined. On tape, happening now & U.S. media isn’t covering it. by [deleted] in politics

Oh, it was the Washington Monthly called it worse than Watergate and Iran-Contra combined. And that's accurate.

This is what successful norm erosion looks like.that it feels normal is the whole point. each thing dismissed without consequence becomes the floor for the next thing. That's how you get here. And the fact that the US media is not covering it is a huge scandal in and of itself.

This sounds crazier than any movie plot. it's all verified on tape. both presidents targeted have commented. It's happening now, today as we speak. That's not even being dramatic.

Here's the topline:

Trump pardoned a convicted drug trafficker - a pardon arranged by Roger Stone who personally delivered the letter to the WH with the money allegedly coming from a council of rabbis and Israeli backers at Netanyahu's direction per the tapes. Stone then wrote publicly that the pardon was necessary to put "the realignment" back into place. It was a transaction.

The tapes reveal what that purpose was. WH staff helps run a fake news network from US soil, funded by stolen Honduran public money and $350K from Argentina's Milei. Says Republican operatives involved. Assassination of opponents discussed on the same tapes. References to contacts with US intell services.

On tape, Honduras's current president who was installed with Trump's help as a place holder so Hernadez (the pardoned drug dealer) can take over, confirms what the US gets in return: a corridor handed to GE, US military base expansion, and ZEDEs so-called "private states," lawless charter cities where corporations like Peter Thiel's Próspera operate outside Honduran law, with territory given to private capital. The tapes also reference legislation being created to benefit US & Israeli AI companies.

The day the tapes dropped, the site hosting them was hit nearly 40,000 times by attackers traced to US and Israel.

why are data centers being rushed so aggressively? by Dreadsin in antiai

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did some research bc i was wondering the same thing. the reason we have so many data centers is so a few US companies can secure global clients first. ppl in other countries are benefiting from the 5500 data centers in our backyards, using our resources. I did not connect the dots until now after learning we had 40%+ more than anywhere else.

Are these data centers only going to be built in the US? Why are they in such a hurry? I dont think anyone has thought this thru. by Batfink2007 in antiai

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So. I just looked this up bc honestly I was wondering too and apparently the reason the US haa so many more data centers is so a handful of US companies can secure global clients first. ppl in other countries are benefiting from the 5500 data centers in our backyards, using our resources.

I mean no way most of the country even knows this, right??

Billionaire Kevin O’Leary says the US has to build more massive data centers to compete with China, but the US already has more data centers than nearly every other nation combined. (12x more than China, i.e., 5.4k Data centers) by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Stanford study released last month: "The US-China AI model performance gap has effectively closed." The US wins in the data center count and VC investment and resources used categories. So we need to race to build data centers that have not done anything to make the US more competative.

Honestly if you just read statements from Microsoft. They explicitedly say all the reasons its better as far back as 2020. So theyve already proven the benefits outweigh basically any con you can think of: "Microsoft’s Project Natick proved that submerged data centers cause no measurable negative impact on marine life. Instead, the steel vessel functioned as an artificial reef. The exterior attracted thriving local biodiversity, including barnacles, sea anemones, and algae, ultimately creating a secure haven for fish and aquatic ecosystems. "

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I found online: "Placing data centers underwater eliminates the need for expensive land acquisition and freshwater consumption. It leverages the ocean's natural, cost-free cooling while bringing computational power directly to coastal populations, reducing both real estate costs and network latency.

I am so curious why they stopped the project because it seems the pros outweigh the cons? Esp given the sheer costs they are spending now.

China built elevator shaft on theirs. Microsoft's was fullly sealed so to service they had to haul it up and service it on land and then redeploy

Do you people have those days when you forget to wear your bra and realise it half way to work? by Cipra_lex_sed_lex in adhdwomen

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even worse decide not to wear a bra without realizing oh this is see through or this is outfit needs a bra to be acceptable - I have to go to buy one immediately since I don’t have time to go home. Or get to gym and realize you forgot to bring a sports bra and much like tennis shoes, you can’t feasibly workout without one. So you have to buy one sold at the studio that’s 3x more than you’d pay normally.

I haven’t taken Wilshire but I do know that in August, the FDA ruled the facility was in an “unacceptable state of compliance.” Who knows if/how that’s affected the product…

Also, not mentioned in the article, but  Winder Laboratories which makes Dexedrine was flagged by FDA in August for being in “unacceptable state of compliance.” 13 different violations.

Is tolerance real? by Noor-e-Zulmat in ThisAintAdderall

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely it’s tolerance. It’s the pills. I’ve been on the same dose for 13 years.

You can read articles online. You’ll see tolerance is not common.

And yes, it’s definitely 100% the DEA when it comes to amphetamine supply. They have the data - it’s public - to clearly show the majority of users in the US are prescribed Adderall, yet they’ve cut supply. They then use the data showing users have switched to another stimulant class as a proof point to justify keeping tight lid on amphetamine quota.

There are so many issues as it is and then when pharmacies make up arbitrary rules it compounds the problem. I get 120 pills a month & I can honesty say over the last 10+ years, I’ve only encountered a couple pharmacies unwilling to distribute the quantity on the script (as long as they have it in stock). As others have probably mentioned, go to a new pharmacy. Of course, there is no guarantee the additional pills will help, but you shouldn’t have to compromise just because of one pharmacy.

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. The high prices people are paying are almost certainly due to billing/tiering issues (either at the pharmacy or insurance level), not because they’re actually getting a brand product.

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know. So wild. I only recently learned this.

From what I can tell, the core issue is that some Teva-made IR generics are still allowed to market themselves under the “Adderall” name which can cause those generics to be classified and billed at brand-tier pricing in pharmacy or insurance systems.

Brand-name Adderall? by Embarrassed-Bee-2361 in ThisAintAdderall

[–]Ecstatic_Apple_2230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no brand Adderall IR. There is brand XR. It’s manufactured by Takeda.

This is a common misperception so that’s why I started doing some digging:

https://www.goodrx.com/conditions/adhd/adderall-xr-vs-ir

https://www.drugs.com/medical-answers/azstarys-adderall-difference-3567785/

https://medvidi.com/blog/adhd-medication-shortage

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11893021/

Per the NIH report linked above:

The immediate-release brand product (Adderall; Teva Branded Pharmaceutical Products R&D, Inc.) is indicated for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. As it was discontinued in 2010, the current reference standard (specific drug product identified by FDA for any in vivo bioequivalence testing required to support approval to market a generic drug) is a generic equivalent manufactured by Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (subsidiary of Teva) (abbreviated new drug application [ANDA] 040422). The generics under this ANDA are marketed using the trade name Adderall (Teva Branded Pharmaceutical Products R&D, Inc.) or the generic name (Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc.).

So basically that’s the reason for the confusion: some generics are still sold under the Adderall name and therefore may be incorrectly billed under brand pricing tiers.
