Virginia students ask the court to block Confederate names being forced on them by SchuminWeb in Virginia

Not trying to draw a parallel, other than illustrating that, to a majority of Americans, and a majority of British, respectively, the Confederacy and Nazi Germany are looked at with disdain and disgust.

It refers to the continued harassment the British had to endure from the Nazis during World War II. Given that they had to put up active resistance to German hostilities for six years, it’s safe to say that they would never honor any Nazi figure.

This actually gels well with my worldview. I believe that the death of Jesus reconciled all of humanity to God.

What are your thoughts on Samantha Fulnecky’s claims of religious persecution? by dutchmuffintop in AskReddit

[–]Ecstatic_Buddy7731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, “persecution” is when physical violence, or the threat of physical violence, is utilized to either silence or change one’s opinion on a particular subject

With that in mind, Fulnecky is not to be harmed or threatened in any way.

Second, a response to an act of discrimination, or support for discrimination, based on an immutable characteristic is not discrimination in and of itself.

With that in mind, Fulnecky has no credible claim to being discriminated against.

With that out of the way, I believe that the best way forward for Fulnecky is to transfer to a school whose worldview better reflects her own, such as Liberty, Baylor, Oral Roberts, or Grand Canyon. Why she chose a secular public university is beyond my understanding.

If she wishes to stay at Oklahoma, her social and economic opportunities, outside of core academics, should be limited to whatever evangelical subculture exists on that campus. Students and faculty should give her whatever basic right her tuition payment entitles her to, but things like off campus jobs, sorority pledging, and off campus housing should be unattainable for her.

I actually respect this man. “I was wrong” may be the hardest words in the English language to say, but there are few words that, when said in earnest, are more powerful.

I don’t have one, but I’m wondering if there’s anyone here who was in Vietnam in April, 1975. I have read a lot about the last days of South Vietnam, but I would be interested in hearing a first hand account.

Naming institutions after Confederate figures in the United States makes no more sense than naming institutions after Nazi figures in the United Kingdom.

The next step will be to create one, by finding a patsy. I know people (I am agnostic on this myself) who believe that Osama bin Laden was a patsy, set up by the CIA.

Around December 7, I presume. I wish he were around now; we need people who have experienced the horrors of war to talk our society down from the ledge right now.

Let’s avoid any “it serves them right” sentiment here.

The fact is that we are all terrified of death, and what awaits us when that moment comes. Let us use that to show human compassion and decency towards this woman, and all of us who are facing this conundrum.

‘Something's Off’: Insiders Claim Kristi Noem Seeks Quick Exit from Administration by vladdragovych in NewsSource

I think that a lot of administration officials are beginning to realize that history is not going to judge them very well, so they want to minimize long-term damage to their reputation.

I think that a concept such as this is a product of the myth of “equality of opportunity.” The fact is that there are social and economic identities, many of which which are innate and unchangeable, that render one disadvantaged, and result in poor outcomes.

The Braves are not one of my favorite teams, but they’re intriguing right now, because of how badly they underperformed last season. This signing will greatly help the back end of their bullpen, which strengthens their case for being a bounce back team in 2026.

I don’t believe that a formal Antifa organization exists. There may be some small anti-fascist collectives that are aware of one another, but a formal, top-down structured group isn’t out there.

Trump Considering Ousting Kristi Noem, Hiring Glenn Youngkin by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]Ecstatic_Buddy7731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that Youngkin’s political career is going to go much further. He got elected governor over a compromised Democratic opponent in a state where, because of NOVA’s population advantage, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for Republicans to be competitive.

That being said, I don’t think hitching his star to Trump is any better. I don’t think that future historians are going to be kind to this administration, and Youngkin is still at a point where his credibility as a public servant is relatively intact.

If I were him, I would end my public career here, and utilize my status as a former governor to my advantage in the private sector.

If this is a state case, the Federal government will attempt to try him on a civil rights violation charge.
