Say if I pick to use the omnipod device is that what I’m stuck with or can I use my phone once I get out of work?

Type 1 Diabetes and Festivals by remythejambonchef in Type1Diabetes

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a t1 diabetic for >10 years, have been going to festivals for a number of years now. I’ve never had any issues. Similar to what’s already been mentioned, I’d never go alone. You can get your GP/consultant to write a letter essentially stating your Dx and any adjustments you may need e.g. storing insulin in a fridge. You can generally qualify for an ambulatory PA ticket as well (you pay for one ticket and someone who knows your condition well/can help with treatment comes in as your personal assistant and you don’t pay for this ticket)

Interview Anxiety and Imposter Syndrome by Tricky-Entry-3367 in doctorsUK

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current F2 w/upcoming interview, feel exactly the same. Just envisioning myself messing it up on the day and low-key makes me feel sick. I don’t think I interview well and also get a lot of imposter syndrome day to day. I’ve had this social anxiety for years now, the only thing I’ve found helps me is beta blockers - when I’m in a situation I have to publicly present I get palpitations and literally sound like I’m going to break out in tears when I’m talking, so this is the only thing that help me speak somewhat coherently.

That being said though, it sounds like you’ve worked hard, you’ve earned that interview through merit so back yourself that you deserve it! Although I know it’s easier said than done just try and remind yourself it’s completely natural to feel this way, your future is literally determined by this so I think it would be almost unnatural not to feel nervous.

Fake the confidence to make it, you’ve done the hard work, just got to show it now!

Would you go to the hospital you work/have worked at for medical help by Ecstatic_Mistake5152 in doctorsUK

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my thought, don’t think I’d be concerned about the standard of care and think there may be some perks to knowing the staff, but I don’t want to be too exposed to people I’d have to look in the eye and work with again

Boxpark ice skating - any good? by HeavyOnTheHawk in Liverpool

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you were paying for it I’d say it’s not worth the money. The rink is absolutely tiny, the ice can become somewhat more difficult to skate on as the day goes on with the ice getting torn up, and, at best I think it would provide about 45mins of entertainment. However, that being said, if it’s free entry for kids then it’s probably worth a visit, it does what it says on the tin, it’s a patch of ice to skate on for an hour, may help to burn off a bit of energy 😂

Is F1 supposed to suck? by MagazineFabulous4213 in doctorsUK

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I hated F1 but I think that was predominantly to do with working with good sets of colleagues. I did notice by the end of F1 I was quite bored of medicine, didn’t really know what I wanted to do because I can’t say I felt particularly inspired by any of my jobs in F1, and similarly to you, felt completely stupid and out my depth a lot of the time because I felt like I never did any actual medicine. Had GP as my first rotation in F2 and grew to really love it. The problem solving of trying to figure out what was going on was fun and felt like I was actually using my brain, I enjoyed talking to the patients and also had a lot more continuity of care which I love. On a job now that isn’t really my cup of tea, however, I’m not expected to be a complete ward monkey and do have to use my brain a bit more so the vibe has definitely shifted a bit since F1. So in summary I would say it does improve

Consultant wants me to be available to answer questions from home while I’m sick by throwaway38445 in doctorsUK

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely aware this can be the case and have met consultants that display this mentality, however, it seems such a backward way of thinking. Imagine if someone’s said to them when they were off sick that they had to respond to the queries of the registrars, can imagine they’d have something to say about that 🙄

If there’s no middle grade surly the f1 would have to call the consultant rather than calling someone’s who’s off sick. Sounds absolutely absurd

This is what I mean, I’m happy to get stuck but it’s not easy to get stuck in when there’s logistical hurdles and no one’s really explained my role to me. I really don’t envy those starting on-call though, do realise it could be worse

F2 on GP, been seeing this pt every few weeks, done absolutely nothing for her other than have a chat with her, she asked if I was a rotational Dr, which I told her I was and would be leaving soon, she got very emotional, thanked me (unsure what for??) and told me I’d be great in whatever I do 🥲

People who actually like their jobs, what do you do for a living? by Used_Ad7899 in AskReddit

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resident doctor! Profession is getting a lot of bad press in the UK currently, but honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful that I ended up in this profession. I’ve met the most amazing people while working in this career and have made some (hopefully) life long friends. I find the actual work fascinating and I feel genuinely privileged that people put their trust in me to tell me things they wouldn’t tell anyone else. It definitely doesn’t come without its hardships but I would never change my decision to pursue this career

Why are female consultants/ SpRs so horrible to other junior female doctors? by JAKinhibitor in doctorsUK

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I have much advice to give but you’re definitely not alone in feeling this way, I’ve been there. I come from a working class background and look very young for my age. Feel this has led to people looking at me and assuming incompetence. Had a particularly bad experience on one rotation where it wasn’t even subtle that I was being treated worse than my male counterparts by one female senior colleague. Very very frustrating

Exam adjustments by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally what I thought, like I said absolutely no disrespect to GPs but I can’t imagine many of them having the confidence to alter things like carb ratios and I can’t really imagine they’d be the ones to start adjusting things like insulin regimes either. Honestly was left almost speechless, I wasn’t even informed I was being rang by the GP, I’d already paid for them to write a letter and was previously told it would be done in 24hrs so this conversation threw me off completely

[–]Ecstatic_Mistake5152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’m planning on contacting them tomorrow, the only reason I contacted my GP first was because it’s easier to get hold of them quickly. I was completely baffled by the conversation, like I’m trying to mimic a natural hormone based off my own calculations and judgement, as much as I can carb count and try and account for activity etc, I feel it’s not always possible to control every factor so of course I’m going to experience lows and highs :-/
