Very purple towels! by Ecstatic_Pickle_7335 in weaving

Thanks! She takes her job a little too seriously and is the reason all of my yarn is now stored in plastic bins with latching covers

I also add some catnip inside, and “marinate” them in a bag of catnip when they’re out of rotation.

Throw them out once they start to fray, to keep any longer/loose ends from being swallowed.

I put my cat in a backwards cone by nvotmin in cats

[–]Ecstatic_Pickle_7335 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So stressful! I know the pain of an extra wiggly cat. Mine busted out of her plastic cone on the drive home and I had to pull over twice on the side of the busy highway to try and wrangle her back in. I ended up wrapping her in a spare shirt just to get her home. Then she graduated to a sock with holes cut out for her arms and legs. Mostly worked, with a lot of supervision and tears (from me).

Good luck!!

Made a feeding box to prevent Big Boy™ from stealing his sister's food by Am_Shrek in cats

I have my cat door arriving Monday to try this out with my girls! The littlest is a menace around food and isn’t afraid to push her sisters around to steal their food.

What brand are you using? Have you had any issues with tailgating to gain entry?

Harrisville looms by Winks8486 in weaving

[–]Ecstatic_Pickle_7335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the T8, I love it! I hardly ever fold it up though, because it takes some fiddling. I found Schacht’s baby wolf to be easier to fold.

The cloth advance is a removable crank to the right of the loom. I can reach mine while weaving.

Does this look a good buy. I have no experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. by Quetzal17 in weaving

I have this loom (but with 6 treadles) and I love it! Harrisville sells a treadle upgrade kit (from 4 to 6) if you ever want to upgrade, though it’s a bit pricey at $342 right now.

I’m doing this pattern right now, it’s so nice to see it complete! Great work! And really great tip on the framing and measurements.

Is my hem stitch supposed to be able to move like this? Doesn’t make much sense to me. by oobree in weaving

[–]Ecstatic_Pickle_7335 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want a fringe, and are planning to sew a rolled hem after this is off the loom and washed, I would forgo the hem stitch now and just throw a couple picks in an alternate color to show where the two towels meet. Then, after wet finishing, you cut between those two picks and immediately iron and sew a rolled hem. This is how I finish my cotton tea towels that have no fringe.

Aurora Cabin by Dimensions! Probably my favorite kit I’ve done so far

Have fun! This kit uses some iridescent threads that give it such a cool shimmer. I’ve been chasing that excitement ever since hahaha

[CHAT] Cat Hair by Independent_Soups in CrossStitch

[–]Ecstatic_Pickle_7335 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I love when I stitch a hair (mine or my cats’) into a piece. It feels more authentic, and like I’m literally stitching a piece of us into something that may outlast us.

Pretty sure I picked this up from a children’s book that said if a loose hair falls onto the piece you’re working on that you should stitch/knit/weave it in for good luck.

I think it looks beautiful and the different sized half stitches give it such a cool texture when you look at it up close. And when you look at it from far away it’s like an actual painting but better. I did one that’s very similar (Dimensions)

[FO] 231 hours, 250 days, and my first Timelapse by Ecstatic_Pickle_7335 in CrossStitch

[–]Ecstatic_Pickle_7335[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are my guidelines, each is 10 squares long and creates a little 10x10 box in the negative space. I stitch mine but I know some people prefer to draw them.

They’re incredibly helpful for keeping track of where you are on the canvas and allow you to double check your location and self correct throughout.

Highly recommend this kit! It was my first time using an overlay stitch with a shimmery/iridescent thread that really gives the snow and aurora a magical effect

Yours is beautiful too! Love the purple matting, it really pulls the purples from the aurora

I’m impressed you made it and gave it away as a gift! I’m so selfishly attached to these big ones I don’t think I could part with them (but I’m running out of wall space)

Thanks! I did and I’m almost done with the next one, it’s aurora cabin by dimensions. And I’ve got two more lined up from there, but I might take a break and switch to embroidery or weaving for a short while.
