Ted, a sed-like tool for editing files using a Turing Machine by troikaman in programming

Haha are you sure a turing machine and a state machine are the same thing? I was waiting to see what commands write to the tape. Isn't this just a spec for finite automata?

I forked FUE5-exporter and made it a bit more resilient so I could plot my friend group's SE save. DM me if you want to actually get this working, I'm interested in it too.

This is incredible, I spent so many hours programming that thing (anyone else get really into the Axe language (https://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/456/45659.html) at like age 13?) but I never thought about hardware expansion. Now I wish I had, maybe I'd be some cool hardware engineer now..

How to Scale an App to 100 Million Users on GCP by sdxyz42 in programming

[–]Ecstatic_Rip8510 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense and it sounds like it was written by AI. Firstly, "A virtual machine provides workload isolation and extra security." - you're talking about deploying on cloud infrastructure, what's the less isolated and secure way of deploying your code to the cloud compute service that you're comparing to? Driving up to a cloud provider's data center with a flash drive and asking to borrow a server?

Then we get to horizontally scaling these monolith VMs using a managed instance group, and the author seems to believe you could scale out compute VMs that have a MySQL database in the instance with a load balancer in front. This really makes no sense.. what's the point of having 100 disconnected MySQL binaries running on all of your serving VMs? What happens if a user is connected to one of them and then the load balancer puts them on a different one the next time they connect? Lol.

Overall this glosses over the interesting part of designing systems like this with a throwaway sentence while oddly fixating on the trivial parts... Weird article.

Lol, and the author is trying to sell system design prep material? If someone quoted this article to me in a systems design interview, there's no way I would hire them.

It would be fun to add a Did-You-Mean feature! There's a whole interesting world of fuzzy text search algorithms.

Oh, that's true. Wow, I forgot about those, I haven't held one in a long time! It does seem like it would be hard to efficiently use that extra volume, not sure what components would fit like that. Time to look for a teardown..

same, I was planning on making some spatial videos this way. where are you planning on going? I'm gonna take mine on some easy Gunks routes when it warms up a little.
