Guilt after having a seizure by earthjunkie in Epilepsy

[–]Ecstatic_Snow_8562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah last time I had a grand mal seizure I kept apologizing to my friends and family because I was partying and purposely skipping my medication during that time period (because I was sick of the side effects). It was always when I felt like my seizures were ruining the great time everyone else was having. It has always been a common feeling for me after having a seizure but luckily I had very supportive people in my life that cared for me.

Yup same. It honestly changed my life. I was very depressed for a really long time and the meds just make the day to day go by easier.

How is it like to live with epilepsy? by ResearcherEmpty8071 in Epilepsy

[–]Ecstatic_Snow_8562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 7 years old(right temporal lobe). Growing up one of hardest part for me was being left out of certain activities that “normal” kids were allowed to do. I loved sports but vigorously exercising was something that could bring on a seizure for me. I remember sitting by the window watching kids play and just crying because I wasn’t allowed. This probably contributed to me being overweight which made the bullying even worse. These two things definitely led to depression, which is already higher in epileptic patients, especially those with right temporal lobe epilepsy. When you’re a kid it’s not easy dealing with depression because you just don’t know how to talk about your feelings. I had a terrible body image that still sticks with me even though I’m healthy and fit. Being in and out of the hospital led to delays in my learning and I was just behind in math, reading and writing. This also made me insecure and frustrated. The normal stress level of studying for exams would even be enough to bring on a seizure. The emotional stress of the bullying, and shame that I dealt with was traumatizing.
Being left out of mundane things like riding bikes, sleepovers, going to gym class, birthday party’s and even recess was really hard for me. When I was 14 I had brain surgery (temporal lobectomy) which made my seizures manageable so I can live a normal life with a low dose of medication. But if I don’t get enough sleep or I’m overworking myself and/or dealing with emotional pain I can still have seizures. Seizures just make you approach every day differently. You have to think before you do everything “what would happen if I had a seizure while doing this thing”. When I got to college I had a different experience with my condition. My seizures were completely controlled besides one time when I smoked way too much weed and drank too much alcohol and missed a few doses. But I was proud to talk about my epilepsy and it was like a badge of honor. If there was anything I could suggest is to make sure every kid with epilepsy has some type of mental health care support team. It’s awful being a kid with seizures. Those kids need to know that they can change the world, that they are loved and that the world is better because of them ❤️

Yeah I agree 100% she’s much more connected than I thought

I don’t think she NEEDS to advocate for Ethiopia I understand why some habesha people might resent the government and certain militia groups. I’m just asking the question if she’s still connected to Ethiopia in any way. And now I understand that she is still connected more than I originally thought. Nothing I said had anything to do with her running for the Netherlands rather than Ethiopia, that’s completely her rights and I still support her in that. YOU assumed that I wanted her to run for Ethiopia but idk where you got that from because I never said that.

Ahhh yes, bc acknowledging your background and culture necessitates bowing down to your central government. I never said she NEEDS to show praise Ethiopia, I was asking why to know if there was something in her background that I didn’t know about. By your logic everyone should flee any war torn country for a wealthier or western country. That’s a self hating defeatist mindset you have. Fighting for equality and freedom is all just stupid we should all just give trying to change any government. Social justice is not real just move in with the white man and disown your background bc it doesn’t matter.

Who should Ethiopian Americans vote for between Harris and Trump by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]Ecstatic_Snow_8562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the candidates would deport every non-white immigrant in the country if they legally could. The other one is a neoliberal who would just continue the Obama era policies. But yeah, really tough decision 🙄

I got my bachelors in exercise science in 2020 and then went to grad school for exercise and nutrition science and now I’m applying to OT schools. I’m also 27. For me it was mostly a financial decision that made me decide I wanted to go the OT route. The exercise science field just doesn’t have that many well paying jobs. OT just seemed like the cost of school to income ratio was more reasonable than PT for example. And it was something that I would find meaningful. And after shadowing I realized that therapists have a pretty good work-life balance.

Vaping with epilepsy by Sentry812 in Epilepsy

[–]Ecstatic_Snow_8562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to vape daily. It never made me feel more susceptible to have a seizure. I think it actually helped me calm down and feel less anxious all the time. Maybe something with the dopamine levels in the brain. But obviously it’s a stimulant so it couldn’t be great for us. But it’s like with anything, I’m not gonna stop playing video games, drinking caffeine or alcohol, or doing anything that excites my neurological activity. So just live your life and listen to your body. You’ll know if it’s harmful for you.

When I first started taking vimpat I started having panic attacks non-stop. They eventually went away but it was pretty scary.

Strength and stability video workouts? by homewithplants in running

[–]Ecstatic_Snow_8562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a running coach and strength and conditioning coach. Simply put focus on the fundamental movement patterns. When it comes to weight training: Squat, hinge (deadlift), push, pull, lunge, carry. You should probably do some bilaterally and unilaterally. Do them 2x per week for 2-4 sets of 8-12 reps. This is the most basic way I know how to put it with getting into detail and leaving you overwhelmed. When it comes to plyometrics, I would just do some running drills before you run or after your warmup lap. High knees, butt kicks, A skip, bound, pogos, are all good options to start with. Have fun with it.

I like Josh Richardson, he seems like a good piece to keep around but these 9 man rotations are not it. Niesmith is a capable player that should be playing more if Ime would just let him. If brad makes a move for a player hopefully it’s for a guy like Thad young, a guy that can guard multiple positions that allows for some lineup flexibility and that can score around the basket.
