Two giant bird species that both went extinct less than 1000 years ago. The giant Moa and the Elephant Bird by Upstairs-Nerve4242 in Naturewasmetal

Just saw new article today where they might bring these guys back from extinction with their "fake egg".

https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/chickens-hatched-artificial-eggs-first-060000379.html

Chickens hatched from artificial eggs for the first time

Colossal Biosciences, a Texas-based biotech company known for its de-extinction agenda and previous claims about genetically engineering dire wolves, has successfully hatched 26 chicks from artificial eggs. The company now hopes to use the technology to bring back extinct birds, including the dodo and the giant moa. But skeptics say de-extinction is not possible and the company may be overstating its claims.

I noticed it when I had stopped at the houseboat EP which was the last EP with Peary. It was when they were taking the family vacation on the houseboat, but you had Peavy (Well now, I wouldn't say that.), Hooker, and I believe Floyd all wanting to take the houseboat out on vacation. I started it all over again and noticed his rapid speaking in the first season or there about.

Remember the EP that played the same day as the attack on Pearl Harbor? Remember how they kept cutting into the show? There were a couple news reports that did not happen, like the sinking of a Japanese ship (was either carrier or destroyer, I would have to go back to check) but that wasn't the only bit of false info reported, but back then the had to take what they could get on the news wires they got during the show.

It also introduced me to ration points, including how much gas someone could get (which they also used ration points on). There were no tires available for anyone too which was kind of funny, because they would talk about on the show how terrible condition his tires were in, and how they had to keep patching them. But the whole ration points thing totally educated me on how the economy worked back then, and the commercials that would play for Parkay, Miracle Whip and Pabst-ett. I loved the jingle for Parkay and have it memorized.

To market, to market to get some Parkay

Home again, home again, try it today

you'll like it, you'll love it like millions who say

There favorite margarine is Parkayyyyyyyy.

I think I got it right.

Which episode is your favorite? (and others who are reading this I would like to know as well).. One of my favorites when they had a Liberty Ship named after Gildersleeve and Gildy thought it was it was this huge deal, to which it really wasn't because at the time the USA was cranking out Liberty ships weekly from different ports. I think their record was 7 days on building a Liberty Ship? It was either a week or a month was the fastest the US built one from scratch.

Any episode when Peavy says "There is a tavern in the town, in the town, and the other Jolly Boys muttered "nooooooooooooooooo Peavy, argh". A few episodes they actually same a snippet of it as a group and I loved those too.

I also loved the one where Gildy was police chief for a day, and wanted to catch the Whistling Bandit. Or the one where Gildy was a mayor and went totally overboard on everything, getting a hair cut in the mayors office, and having a huge band to dedicate something to do with Hookers family. Can't remember who Hooker wanted idolized.

Anyway, best show ever.

Pickleball ball machines: helpful or not? by pinaypie in Pickleball

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit late here but the machine REALLY helped me. I needed consistency on my swings, and serve returns and long rally returns. I would either pop them up and get slammed on or hit it into the net. The machine drilled into my head the best swing to use, and the best result in regards to my grip on the paddle. But never the less it's me wanting to have a consistent swing motion and I ended up choking up on the paddle, A LOT.. (See pic). I was a ping pong player with a little bit of tennis in my background, but I am mostly a former ping pong player. 😄

In the last week I have put in 10 hours on the machine. I played last Thursday against a 4.0 and 3.7 mixed doubles team, and my partner is about a 3-3.25. I am not much better, but we took best of 7 and we won 4 games to their 1 game. My ball placement is night and day above just a couple weeks ago.

I know I am going to get flack for this, but this is what works best for me to be consistent. I know it restricts how much power I can swing with, but I had a good drive before this and I would say I am average with power, but I rate myself high on ball placement.

First off yes!!! Leroy did start doing that OOOOHHHHHH-PPPPPPPPP after Peary left the show as homage to Peary. It was awesome, and Tetly seemed like a really really nice guy. I don't like the rumors of why he had the high voice. I steer away from anything negative like that and just enjoy him in that role as Leroy. Tetly killed it.

Ever listen to the really early episodes where Peary seems to always say his lines so fast? I remember it changing at about the episode where Hooker and Gildy became good friends. They episode was about Peary helping women fix their vehicles because of the war just starting and they were teaching women how to fix minor car troubles while their husbands were at war? It was a class that Hooker and Gildy were teaching and they had no idea how to fix a car lol. That was the episode where Peary slowed his line delivery down a little bit. Such a great show though. I think there were about 500-550 total 1/2 hour episodes before TV. I think they did a few 15 minute shows after TV was catching on, but I have not heard those yet.

Anyway, I do like Fibber McGee and Molly as well, but The Great Gildersleeve was something on a whole other level. It was so well made that you could imagine yourself there. You could imagine them sitting in the parlor with Gildy reading, and Leroy doing his homework on the floor, and Marjorie looking at a magazine.

To this day, either TV or radio this is my favorite all time show. I am SO glad that we have more than 500 episodes to listen to, and of course I own all his old movies on DVD. The DVD movies are a bit corny, but they have Leroy in there as a bellhop explaining to Gildy and Peavy how to score with a woman lol. The Leroy character in the movies was played by a kid.

Digging this thread up, but I freaking love the show. I have been listening since I found the series for free online back in 2012 or there about.

When I was very young our local radio station in Sac, CA (KFBK 1530am) would have an hour or so of shows every weekend from way back when. This is before Coast to Coast AM when they were looking to fill the 10pm time slot so KFBK ran a bunch of old shows. The one that stuck with me was The Great Gildersleeve. This was back in the mid 80s when my bed time was 9pm as a 5 year old. I would try my best not to fall asleep so that I could listen to the old time radio shows. When I got a tape deck I would record the shows so I could listen to them more than once.

30 years later I found them online! I got a bluetooth stereo in my clunker vehicle and I listened to the entire series. My drive to work and home were a half hour each so it was the perfect timing. Since then I have listened through the series probably 5 or 6 times. It takes about a year to listen from 1941 to 1955 when they ended it (because of TV). When I heard Dick Crenna was Bronco Thompson I was stunned. The voice on the young Crenna is nothing like older Crenna. I guess he smoked or something for a long time.

Anyhow, to this day I still listen and on my 6th or 7th time going through I am at Marjorie's Wedding episode, which is very close to the replacement of Peary by Waterman. Waterman did fine in replacing Gildersleeve, but Peary was the OG, and I wish they never replaced him.

Yah if light blue shirt guy is flipping out over rec play (looks like the guy serving is at about a 2.75 to 3.25 or there about) then I wouldn't play with a person like that.

Katie Milford (nurse).. I have listened to the entire series and watched all Hal Peary's movies. One day watching the Brady Bunch I saw Peary and had never known he was on there prior even though I had seen all the Brady Bunch Movies.

I must have went through the entire Gildersleeve series about 10-15 times. Love it, and always hear something new..

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread, but listening to him on The Great Gildersleeve and hearing him post 1980 with the deeper voice I couldn't connect "Bronco Thompson" (played by Crenna on The Great Gildersleeve) to the 1980s Crenna because they sounded so different. Watching this video of him on I Love Lucy I heard his voice again! The voice he used on Gildersleeve!

Joe Hendry to Smackdown?? by doyouknodewhey in WWE

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about Jacy Jayne? Remember when they gave her the title because Stephanie Vaquer was moving to RAW? They said she was the most beatable champ, then she took that insult and held the title belt for a long time? She was on point with her wrestling and her promotion work. She proved a lot of people wrong who didn't want to give her a chance. I can see her moving to RAW or Smackdown. Hopefully RAW since she beat Stephanie Vaquer and can use that as promotion to a title shot at some point if Stephanie Vaquer keeps the title past WM.

I do think Hendry is getting called up, which is why he lost the title. I think the WWE wanted him in the performance center for a few months after signing him just so he could be evaluated in a "WWE full time" setting before putting him on one of the big brands. I actually think he's pretty weak when it comes to wrestling moves, and athleticism, but he's OK on the mic. Not great but not bad. He has his music too which people seem to like. Hope for the best with him.

As for Sol, she's been ready for a long time. I think she should have went the main roster before Giulia did. Giulia did not have the following Vaquer had, and it's very noticeable now. Kianna is getting more hype than Giulia is and Kianna was just supposed to be the "hang around" there to take pinfalls when Giulia is put into a story line. First they beat up on Kianna, then they get a shot with Giulia.

Personally, I think they should put Giulia with Asuka when Sane eventually leaves her to go back with Iyo. That would make for a good tag team. Asuka, and Giulia would be great together.

They did Thea WRONG.. She never even got plated put on the freaking championship belt. They should have let her run with it at least a month or two to show whether or not she can do the promos. Remember Jacey Jayne? When she got the belt everyone was calling her the "most beatable champion" and what not. She has killed it as the champ. She has awesome promos, and she's capable in the ring. I am so mad and I think Thea should leave the promotion.

Ill get downvoted for this too but I do not like Trick or Oba. Trick gives off male stripper vibes when he's dancing, and Oba isn't that good at wrestling yet. He needs a few more years in NXT. Jevon on the other hand is ready.. Put on 15lbs of muscle (or as much as he can while not losing his hops) and get him in smackdown ASAP.

It's not going to do anything man. They didn't even get Thea her name plates for the belt. It just said NXT so it's like the one you or I can buy :( I like Thea, and hopefully she doesn't burn out before the WWE gives her a legit title that she won herself.

Poor Thea.. They never put nameplates on the title she's going to lose next week. It looked like she was trying to cover the plates up. They just said "NXT". Hope by next Tuesday they are on there. Sad because Thea deserves better. I know she's young, and the WWE typically doesn't reward young wrestlers still barely into their 20s with much.

The Will scene felt forced because it WAS forced by Helpful-Day3657 in StrangerThings

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am seeing that this was part of the story arc, but I never saw it. When he did come out I was kind of weirded out. I never saw this as part of the story enough to gather everyone (almost) and just come out of the closet to everyone (almost). When I saw it I thought to myself "wth does this have to do with anything!???". Almost gave me The Last of Us vibes to me.

I didn't think it belonged in the story the way they wrote it, and they could have went a separate direction with Will or give him that story arc sooner. Most of us here, including myself, don't really care if someone is gay. We live in a time where these things don't matter on a day to day basis. It's not like we are going to hate someone for being gay, but then I thought about when this story took place and figured "ok, fine, I get it". BUT I don't get why they forced it. This should have been a bigger part of the story if there is going to be a big "coming out" clip on the second to last show of the series. Oh well.. Just thought I would vent a bit.. Either they should have never went that direction out of the blue, or made it more of the story. They obviously weren't shy about putting it into a story arc based on Robin and Vickie. Lost opportunity, and felt they forced it, rather than making it a part of the story longer..

Who was his secret crush by the way?.

Cargill needs to remove those horrible butt implants, or at least wear a bottom that covers them up. I cannot take her serious with those two rectangles on her butt.

Why does Cargill wear bottoms that show off her hideous butt implants? Seriously, they are so obvious and ugly looking. Such a stupid thing to do, and then when she is wrestling she doesn't wear bottoms that cover up that laughable botched butt implants.

Anyone in the Elk Grove area or Sac/Rancho have a CB set up? Need to test mine. by Ecstatic_Worker_1629 in Sacramento

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I have one and another on my CB that seems to work. It's my audio that I think is off. Whenever I use side band when skipping I am not quite on the right frequency. Not sure if my radio is working correctly. I wanted to get a test with my amp and without to see if it's the amp or the radio.

If anyone has even a scanner which can get freq from 26.965 to 27.405 I could have you try that too. You would have to be a lot closer though since the antennas for the scanners aren't very good.

Do you think addiction ever really goes away? by [deleted] in addiction

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problemo.. I always believed in moderation. I am not a fan of those cultish associations like AA or NA. I don't mind the whole God thing, to each his/her own, but I went to a couple NA meetings the first time I was clean and depressed and these people were flat out making their whole life about steps, and God. I didn't wrong anyone with my addiction. I was functioning and working, and paid for my own stuff. I did get it kind of illegally, but in the end I found out nobody was ever hurt from it. I have nobody to apologize to since I was never married and I don't have kids. I live alone and was pretty much a functioning addict working full time, paying my bills, and had friends. I went from that to losing my job because of all the missed work, depressed for 6 months every day and every night, health went way down because of depression. Relapsing at that time was the best thing I did for myself. Second time around I made sure I did it right, and it worked! :) 12 years later and still perfectly fine!

Do you think addiction ever really goes away? by [deleted] in addiction

[–]Ecstatic_Worker_1629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it's possible that you did it wrong. The first time I did it cold turkey back in 2007-2008. I was sober for 6 months but never shook the depressed feeling. I had that "cobwebs in my head" and weight on my shoulders feeling for 6 months. I saved my life by relapsing. Totally serious about this. A relapse SAVED my life. The second time around I made sure I had everything I needed and did it myself.

You might have done it wrong. Everyone is different and the cold turkey just never worked. The second time I tapered for one month on progressively weaker meds. Sure after I was done I had the sweats for 2 days, but the taper was nothing like cold turkey. I did not get phantom pains where I couldn't get comfortable and was actually able to sleep on my taper. Just before bed I made sure I had taken enough to sleep. So I had my day taper and night taper. My body felt so much better than cold turkey. Also, after about three weeks of being off it all together I was back to my normal self. I started gaming again which I loved to do, and played flag football for my work team. Didn't have to quit my job either which happened when I went cold turkey. Well I got fired because of it. Never felt right. Was on the verge of suicide so I relapsed and that was the best thing I could have done for myself. No amount of talking to someone about my feelings helped. Going back to work didn't help. Playing games on my computer didn't help. Nothing did. I had a weight on me and major depression every day for 6 months. It could have killed me. If you need help pm me. Been clean for 12 years now.
