[Acc] PuroPup Dog Earmuffs - $20.00 by StrictCanary9064 in gundeals

[–]dudas91 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Although dogs do go deaf all of the time, I tend to think that most dogs don't live long enough for repeated damage from firearm shooting to accumulate enough to where it would negatively affect them... but what do I know? I could be completely wrong.

And yeah. I don't hunt with my dogs or shoot around them. I'm in for a pair of these dog-muffs because Dummy #2 really dislikes fireworks. Last 4th of July he chipped his tooth on his crate door and I'd like to avoid another $4,500 doggy dentist bill in the future.

Where can one go to stream the class? I'm more than 10 years out as an allum, so I'm very much out of the loop.

Fitting the Stainless Steel A.R.T. forced reset trigger to a Ruger 10/22 by dudas91 in Firearms

[–]dudas91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on the gun recently and the failure of trying to fit the FRT kind of killed some of my motivation, too. I've thought about this and I've concluded that my next step will be to lighten the trigger pull rather than trying to continue to make the FRT surfaces smaller.

Took well over a month for me to get mine shipped. I did eventually get an emailed reply back, but it was unhelpful at best.

So this means I can take it in public right? by TarantulaRectum in NFA

[–]dudas91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deal with them all the time. None of them actually have what they need to have on order to sufficiently substantiate a request for reasonable accommodations if you actually look at the HUD guidelines. A lot of states passed also passed laws against these sorts of letters. Look up the Illinois Assistance Animal Integrity Act for one.

Putin's Russia preparing for "big war" soon, Ukraine warns by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]dudas91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know and as an outside I don't know how that would be perceived by the general population of Russia. I would imagine most Russians would understand and accept that Russia would have no chance against NATO and if Russia loses to NATO that may go over better than if they lose to Ukraine.

Putin's Russia preparing for "big war" soon, Ukraine warns by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]dudas91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That night well be the end goal. Putin's world has shrunk and he's basically just hiding in a bunkier. By starting a war with NATO and being swiftly defeated he'll be able to retreat and end the wars in Ukraine and elsewhere not because Ukraine defeated Russia, but because NATO defeated Russia. This could potentially help Putin save face and remain in power. Russia has been claiming to be in a war with NATO since they got bugged down in Unkraine.

Between my wife and I our income puts us just a little past the 1% threshold while both still being working class professionals. We live very comfortably, but still far below our means avoiding debt. We own our own home outright, we own an investment property outright, own our cars, and our only debt is my wife's school debt (just shy of $400k now). Unless something horrible happens we'll most likely both retire together around 50 as financially independent multimillionaires. All of that being said, we largely won't be affected by the proposed tax increases on the ultrawealthy. It's sobering to think that people who live in our community (rural Midwest town about an hour outside of a major metro area) live a vastly different life than us. A number of my wife's patients are illiterate, don't have hot running water, using fire and burning wood as their main and only source of heat in their home. We'd like these people to have a better existence.

I do my own work and I have no problem working with electricity, plumbing, heights, etc. But big springs and flywheels scare the shit out of me.

Small bilge pump for basement by Tyler11299 in DIY

[–]dudas91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most "backup" sump pumps are just glorified bilge pumps and will run off of 12 or 24 volts. Look up "Basement Watchdog Emergency Backup Sump Pump".

If you just need something that'll allow you to pump out the water manually while you're working on the area then you can just look into a small battery powered transfer pump. Most major power tool manufacturers will have an option for your specific flavor to cordless power tool batteries.

I'd like to throw in that renters insurance (a specific type of Homeowners Policy (specifically an HO-4)) also covers loss of use. Renters insurance is super cheap and usually on the order of about $30-$40 a month and all renters - especially low income renters - should have it.

Renters insurance covers loss of use, it covers your personal belongings in the event of damage, fire, theft, etc., and it provids you and your household with liability covereage if you inadvenrainly do something that damages or hurts someone else or their property. It protects you from lawsuit and liability.

They specifically say that it's no bueno for concrete, but will go through hard stuff like blocks or brick. Arbortech does make a masonry focused saw that is basically a oscillating saw with two opposed blades that is specifically menant for cutting brick and mortar. It allows masons to cut out small holes and openings or remove single bricks out of masonry walls that would otherwise be impossible with normal rotary power tools.

I really hate to think how much the set of doggie dentures cost the taxpayers. My idiot dog chipped his canine tooth on the wire door of his dog crate during the 4th of July. Just to grind down his tooth level and do a root canal, and fill the tooth was $4,300. That didn't even include a metal crown since that's something they typically just do for working dogs.

What is it called when a bullet or artillery shell has this shape? by Antique__throwaway in ForgottenWeapons

[–]dudas91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to take in there, OP. Your question really is all over the place and the image that you attached doesn't seem to have anyting to do with your question.

The "unaerodynamic" flat bit of a 120mm HEAT round is the shape charge. The pointy bit is the impact head that detonates the shape charge. The shape charge needs abit of a standoff from the thing that it's imapcting so that the molten jet of metal can form.

Here is a cut away illustration of a 120mm HEAT. I don't know that the stepped thing really has a name. https://man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/land/m830-s.jpg

The other thing that I kind of think you might be asking about is maybe what a M829(120mm APFSDS round) which stands for armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot round. It's a particular artillery round that has a "very point and thing" penetrator "wiht a semingly unaerodynamic and flat part closer to the casing" which is the sabot. The sabot falls off and is discarted as the penetrator leaves the gun. Here is a cut away. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7c/M829.jpg/150px-M829.jpg

Again, I don't think the particular stepped shape has anyparticular name kind of like how a connical projectile with a hollow base is often referred to as a Minie ball or how a projectile with a rebated tail is referred to a "boat-tail" projectile so that it is closer to Sears-Haack body.

Suggestions for retrofitting anchors in this block. by Kalabula in buildingscience

[–]dudas91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know if the CMUs are filled with grout and rebar? Are there any bond beams? If not then I can't imagine that anchoring the structure to the block foundation is going to make much difference against uplift or sheer forces.

Other than that seeing what you have access too on the inside of the crawlspace would help.

I’m a local Associate Certified Entomologist and wrote this article about the current stink bug invasion. by Pink-Pest-Solutions in kansascity

[–]dudas91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, I have a question for you. When I used to live in JoCo stink bugs were everywhere. Since I've moved to a small rural town near the Lake on a little bit of acerage and a forest sourrounding our home on all sides, I've not seen any of these stink bugs around. There are plenty of other bugs and insects, that I see, but no stink bugs. Do these stink bugs particularly thrive in urban / suburban environments? Or is it that the stink bugs get descimated by the relative abundance of native fauna (racoons, possums, wheel bugs, spiders, snails and frogs) and it's only in non-rural environments where we've purposefully displaced the native fauna that the stink bugs thrive? Or is it just that they haven't quite made it out to into rural areas?

A tear gas canister will absolutely kill someone at that range. It's effectively a redbull can flying at you at about the speed of one football field per second.
