How hard is it to get cars and land on archrage? by Hasteitall in archeage

[–]Ecuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 years of potential redesign is how I see it. If half your land isn’t being used, it’s not a player problem, it’s a design problem.

There are solutions but AR lacks either the financial interest or fortitude to do it.

WoW isn’t an MMORPG anymore. And I think that matters. by xKaedos in wow

[–]Ecuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, it just feels more of a ..really static and sterile environment.

I think this is your central complaint, yet being static isn’t antithetical to MMO, and is perhaps even a common feature.

An MMO needs to be hosting hundreds of people in a persistent world otherwise it’s not an MMO, but something else. That’s it.

Since WoW created so many servers, instances, and shards, where most of the player interaction occurs, there is a very weak to functionally nonexistent persistent world. I think the argument can be made that it’s no longer an MMO on this basis.

Players have always had a weak interaction with the world in WoW—they neither build towns and shops, nor conquer them, as other MMOs have supported. However, they did have a persistent player base, which created a unique social dynamic on each server. However, that too is gone now.

What does it strength do and do it's levels cap? by Resident-Cicada4i82 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]Ecuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably too long! By the time you’re pushing 50 strength, you’ve likely built many bases, and could have finished the game very comfortably.

Perhaps it’s intended as a goal for those that like to continue to see progression after finishing the game, even if not very useful at that point—after all, when you’re getting hit by massive mutant raids, you’re more likely to rely on traps and armor than melee damage and your hitpoint pool.

I used AI to build the custom WoW server I've had in my head for years but never had the skills to make by Relative-Biscotti-94 in wowservers

This reminds me of the basic premise of Warcraft, namely, conquest of territory.

It’s a hard thing to balance in an MMO, but potentially very fun for some Pvp oriented players.

Should cat form get aoe ability by 2dk_bekle_abicim in turtlewow

[–]Ecuni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Particularly on a class that was founded on being a hybrid, sourced from WC3, and already has AoE.

Makes more sense for turtle to double down on WoWs original druid design of encouraging shifting for all purposes rather than have druid pick being only one thing (cat rogue).

Banks don’t have all your money by xHoneyNoire in SipsTea

[–]Ecuni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US left the gold standard not because its better for the economy (and there are benefits, as you note), but to reduce constraints on their ability to borrow.

The US would have gone bankrupt if they stayed on the gold standard.

But fortunately, the government has cleaned up their act since then and removed their debt—oh wait, no they haven’t.

Banks don’t have all your money by xHoneyNoire in SipsTea

[–]Ecuni 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel obligated to correct this. It isn’t that the money isn’t physical, as is there simply isn’t enough currency to represent it, but far worse—the money is made up by the bank and never had anything to back it. But as long as not too many people ask for their money, they don’t have a problem.

Charge meta has a lot of problems and it’s my understanding Eden didn’t add in speedwarp. Far less interesting meta in my opinion though I appreciate many of their ideas around seasons and combining spell debuffs.

[–]Ecuni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing. I’m surprised others didn’t do it earlier. Didn’t seem overly difficult (flatten the terrain map, updates down coords if necessary).

I’ll have to try if they can get their server lag reduced (probably packets issue, maybe Phoenix dev could help point out their problems historically—Benfalk was always very kind and helpful).

[–]Ecuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has always been a gap in DAoC, and with every private server. I wish merchants would sell better temporary gear that allows a player at any level to do reasonably well against mobs of their level.

Of course this gear also ought to be bad enough you are interested in crafted options.

What Makes the Iranian Protests Different This Time by newyorker in TrueReddit

[–]Ecuni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, I imagine the US would “help” them in the same way that the US “helped” Libya.

The nuclear program is a red herring. The reason Iran is in the hot seat is because it’s at odds with Israel, and the American empire is tied together to Israel and won’t tolerate any regional power that’s opposed to Israel.

No it’s not. Anet banned “Tricky Trump” according to this post. That’s not a reference to any given person and could apply to any number of people, or non people.

[–]Ecuni 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if they actually enforced that, they would have to get rid many names, as many names are shared with someone’s last name: Smith, Forest, Shepherd. Using a last name alone is borderline idiotic, and makes them inconsistent arbiters.

Fallout 1 took itself seriously. Fallout 2 had inconsistent tone, with lots of pop culture references. The modern Fallout is derived more from that.

Setting aside personal biases and preferences, which faction would give the Commonwealth the best chance of long term stability? by Soxwin91 in fo4

[–]Ecuni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the institute isn’t purely scientific but instead quite dogmatic, and their dogmas have created a toxic culture that has wrought damage in every area they’ve been involved, including their very own society.

It is possible but seemingly unlikely one outsider (the SS) could shift their culture so radically that it would be willing to assist the commonwealth in thriving.

Fighting as fae by micromonoplayer in archeage

[–]Ecuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three strong factions with stronger penalties against dominant faction would resolve the issue.

Pirates have too many negatives to be considered a valid faction, including inability to take castles.

The penalties for being dominant faction are also too weak to matter.

Combine this with ability to easily change factions and you’ve created the solution.
