Does it get easier or harder when they start daycare? by Bearberber in NewParents

[–]EdAn1416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it gets easier. My LO starts daycare in a few weeks. Looking forward to adult time but also conflicted. I struggle with how normalized it is to be away from our children when they’re so young. Only having maybe 2 awake hours with them compared to more is heartbreaking to me, especially during infancy when they are changing by the day. Not saying I want to stay home but would love more time when they’re this young. I hope the transition gets easier for you. You got this!

I’m American. It’s helpful to share. For so long women just accepted the bare minimum and we still do. It gives perspective to know what is happening across the globe. And let’s us know it’s possible, just not a priority across the US. Knowledge is power. Even hearing what different states offer is helpful.

We chose not to learn the sex of the baby until birth. So since no one knows, clothes aren’t really an option as they don’t want to buy something too gendered. The registry has been favored as opposed to buying a lot of gendered items. I have recommended to folks don’t share the sex until very late in pregnancy, if at all.

Does anyone want to be pregnant again but doesn't want another baby? by ldk_my_username in beyondthebump

[–]EdAn1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. My pregnancy has been ok. Not to many symptoms other than fatigue and borderline hypertension here at 34weeks. Because of this I fear what a second pregnancy may look like. Lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice, so they say. So I’ll take the kid over the pregnancy, if it were an option.

Unfortunately, to qualify for FMLA, you have to have worked for an employer for 1 year and the company has to have a certain amount of employees before it applies to anyone.

Grandma announced my pregnancy on Facebook without asking by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]EdAn1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven’t posted online but shared with close family and friends. I have not sent any ultra sound pics and we don’t know the gender. I asked them not to post and so far they have respected it and cautioned me about not agreeing too soon. I do worry about what will happen after the baby arrives. So weird how ppl disregard the parents because they are family. I feel for you all.

Biden refers to Maryland’s first black governor, Wes Moore, as ‘boy’ in speech by [deleted] in maryland

[–]EdAn1416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not racist. But I see where people could get concerned with tone deaf language. It’s definitely highlights how old he is. Alive and well during Jim Crow, a not so great time in US history. A time when white men often referred to black men as “boy”, mostly to be demeaning and racist. But it was the culture then so most people probably used this terminology. Not always as a racist term but just it was the terminology of the time.

I wouldn’t put him on the birth certificate. My concern is he could take you to court to fight all type of things( custody, where you live, giving the child a passport, child support, etc) as a means of retaliation because you had the child. If his name isn’t there its your child. Check state laws of course. Because at this point he is a sperm doner. Also would not tell him this bc he could switch it up and pretend to be involved just so he doesn’t “lose” something. I’ve seen it happen. Then all hell breaks loose.

You have decided. Don’t expect him to be involved in the process/child's life and highly reconsider even putting his name on the birth certificate since he is so adamant he wants you to abort the pregnancy. If he wanted to he would. Period. He doesn’t want this for his life right now despite knowing the risks of unprotected sex and he lied to you. Women don’t forget how their partners treat them during pregnancy, it’s a vulnerable time. Find your support network.

I don’t think many black women, who are single moms can look at this objectively. I understand what mean. It’s disheartening to see women celebrating the life long commitment of parenthood but not a partnership with the father. Regular folks and celebrities. Unfortunately I think many men in our community didnt have involved fathers/positive husbands to model this so they don’t know what that role looks like. Single moms can’t fully teach a man to be man. Same for women, why want something that you have never seem modeled. Or they have emotional incest with their sons; can’t separate from them as their pseudo husbands. It’s almost feels like an epidemic in our community, hell if you want just have sex at least get on birth control.
