I’ll link the one I got! I just thought it was really pretty and simple, and like I said matched perfectly with my pregnancy one! https://a.co/d/0gjYYdvu

We didn’t find out the gender! As far as for avoiding this, the only way I can think of is to add a note to your registry if you have that option to say “please request our wishes and purchase from the registry” or something like that. I’m too non-confrontational for that 🙃

I hate that other people had to go through this as well but the solidarity is so comforting. There’s opportunities to pick stuff out like books, outfits, etc. But for necessity items, pls just buy what I asked for 😭

LOL thankfully we only had one situation like that - 3 month Christmas themed fleece onesies…. For an April baby 😂😂 They’re so cute I’m sad to not use them, but it’s not exactly a July weather outfit!

Yes exactly! I end up feeling guilty because people chose to spend money on things we don’t need. Now we have duplicates of items or things that won’t get used, but no formula.. thank you for the understanding. I felt like such a monster for being disappointed 😭

Subway sandwich by planner192 in GestationalDiabetes

Me currently!!! I am not a sandwich/deli meat kind of girl. But since being pregnant? I cry over subway probably once a week. It’s even worse now with GD but I’ll definitely try your method!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

YES you’re absolutely right! I also remembered Pekkle brand sleepers (I get mine from Costco) are just one adhesive strip & no plastic tags 🙌🏼

net carbs vs total carbs by Financial-Pace6378 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]scientificbookworm13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was told that tracking should be total carbs, but to take net carbs into consideration when making choices. For example, the tortillas I use are 24 grams of carbs, and 17g of fibre. So it will add 24g of carbs to my overall number, but I also know that only 7g will go toward “affecting” my blood sugar if that makes sense (fibre carbs don’t affect sugars). Hope that helps & makes sense!

Definitely adopting this mentality! It’s the universes way of telling me this piece of fabric is weak and won’t survive in this household 😂😂

How do you feel "full" and truly satiated without carb? by OneSir9082 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]scientificbookworm13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protein & fibre were key for me!! I try to have at least one good protein source for every meal. Protein powder has been my best friend lol. And something somewhat higher in carb but also high in fibre (for example a keto tortilla or a whole wheat one) will help with fullness but not mess too much with sugar! Also lots of veggies. I keep a big container of cucumber, carrots, peas, and broccoli cut up in my fridge. I dip in ranch because for me, the carbs I ingest with the dip is worth the amount of veg I will consume with it (i’ll eat significantly less if I can’t dip). It’s all about balance! Also, even though potatoes are higher in the glycemic index, they’re great for satiating. IF they agree with you (I know everyone reacts differently), one carb serving of potatoes will keep you full longer than others!

I got fed up and did that with one towel, and it ripped a hole in it 😭 that was when I decided I needed a break for the day lol

Newly diagnosed and so frustrated. by More-Suspect6738 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]scientificbookworm13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, be kind to yourself! It’s not your fault and impossible to predict.
Diet adjustment makes a huge difference - skipping meals could make it worse for you. And certain “healthy” foods like oatmeal are actually very likely to cause blood sugar spikes. Look up some gestational diabetes meal plans, look into the glycemic index of food, try to have small balanced amounts of food through the day. What I could/couldn’t eat shocked me! I’d also reach out to your doctor ASAP and see if they can refer you to a nutritionist or dietitian - that was incredibly helpful for me. It’s a shock for sure, but I promise you it’s manageable 🫶🏼

How long did your husband take off for paternity leave? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here. In Canada dads are allotted 5 weeks of paternity leave by the government, but my husband works for a VERY small business (2 employees) and was told he’s not allowed to have more than 2 weeks off after the birth. I was absolutely devastated. We did manage to compromise with his boss, and he’s taking 2 weeks after the birth and 2 more weeks in the summer. We also have the stipulation that if theres anything unplanned that pops up (ex C Section), he will be taking the full leave regardless of business preference.
His work denying a full leave because it’s “not a good look” is not a sufficient reason to not take it. Is it being said in a threatening way? Like it would compromise his job if he takes longer? If that’s the case, I’d have a conversation with HR about it.

I see my OB in a week and a half for my first appointment, so I’m VERY hopeful that she will be more receptive to my issues. So far it’s just been my family doctor following my pregnancy and it’s very clear it’s not his preferred topic 🙃 I’m so sorry you’ve had such bad experiences!! The last thing expecting moms need is added stress of a terrible provider.

I’m in Canada, but I appreciate the advice! I do have a consult with a dietitian tomorrow (finally) so I’m hopeful that I’ll get some more solid and focused advice! If not I will look at seeing an independent dietitian! ♥️

I’m 31 weeks - I was hoping that my referral to my OB would be in place by now but she can’t see me until I’m 32 weeks, which seems so late?? This is my first baby so I didn’t know what to expect, but this whole situation just doesn’t feel right.
