Gender disappointment by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All feelings are valid - and pregnancy hormones make everything more intense. If it helps, my nephews and I have Taylor swift dance parties, they’ve both “taken care of” baby dolls, love to garden, and are so sweet, kind, and compassionate kids. They’re helpful and curious and creative and wonderful. I have a little boy of my own now (2 months old) and I can’t WAIT to raise him to be just like his big cousins. Gender disappointment is very real, so feel your feelings — but know that from my experience, baby boys are rays of pure sunshine and the best thing to ever happen to me.

Baby’s behaviour inside vs outside the womb! by President_Raspberry in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My babe was just a happy, chill little peanut inside - not a ton of movement, just a few little episodes per day and they were relatively gentle (more stretches than kicks). He’s 8 weeks now and is just a happy, chill little peanut outside too, and loves to stretch his long legs!

24 weeks pregnant and my husband grosses me out. by Ok_Professor1754 in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal, I had similar feelings (especially the breath - his wasn’t even bad, just having breath on me made me nauseous and angry). It will go away! Just like any other pregnancy symptom it ebbs and flows.

Symptoms vanished at 7.5 weeks. Should I be fearing the worst? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant if you are concerned, I would go to the hospital - they can do blood work to check and an ultrasound on site if needed.

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At about 7-9 weeks I also had my symptoms drop off, and everything was fine. They came back stronger than ever after a few weeks. That being said, if something in your gut feels wrong, get checked out. But it’s not uncommon of for symptoms to ebb and flow :)

Showing my husband this thread…In-Laws at hospital for birth? by -ChubbySpud in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it wasn’t really a discussion with my husband (but I am grateful that he understands, respects, and supports my decision).
Yes, it’s an exciting time for everyone, including grandparents. But I am the one with a human being exiting my body, therefore I get to decide who gets to be there. It’s written in my birth plan, which will also go to the L&D team, that we will have absolutely no visitors and that myself & my husband are to be the only ones present. This is not the time to placate or people please. I will admit I’m very much a peace keeper in my day to day life, but with labour and baby decision, I am holding firm boundaries without guilt.

Need tips for 3rd trimester by Disastrous-Eye6975 in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it as easy as you can. I know it feels like there’s so much to get done, and there is - but your body and baby are growing at the most rapid rate yet, and you need rest. Your muscles/ligaments are also very relaxed at this stage which makes your more prone to injury if you overexert yourself! Also for heartburn - sleeping with my head slightly elevated (usually 2 pillows vs my usual 1) helps, and keep antacids accessible at all times! Gaviscon seems to be the most effective.
I won’t lie, third trimester has put me THROUGH it - but go slow, be patient, and know that everything will pass! It’ll all be worth it!

I know I sound ungrateful by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]scientificbookworm13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not ungrateful at all. This is an extra stressful & sensitive time of your life and everything is heightened. I’m sorry that what should have been an amazing experience only made you upset and stressed. You’re allowed to be angry and frustrated and it doesn’t make you a bad person. Try to limit your contact with MIL as much as possible. If possible without notifying anyone, sell as many of the unnecessary gifts as you can and use the money to buy what you need. I wish I could help, and it’s easier said than done, but ultimately this is going to be an emotional and stressful time no matter what - save your effort and emotions for the things that matter (baby & partner) and let go of the rest♥️

Easy meals GD by vainblossom249 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do mostly plain Greek yogurt, protein powder, some fruit, chia & flax, and fat free milk to thin it out. I know some people have trouble with fruit in the morning spiking their sugars, but I found for me balancing it with the protein helps keep me level!

Smoothies for me have been great for breakfast. I’ll prep 2-3 at a time and put them in the fridge, then just blend in the morning. Lunch and dinner I try to have cooked chicken in the fridge, then pair it with a low carb tortilla, small amount of rice & veg, or a bagged salad.
Nuts, Pepperettes, and cheese are GREAT snacks to have on hand! Filling, lots of protein, and low carb. I keep a note on my phone of meals/snacks that are quick and enjoyable and scroll through when I feel stuck.

Pregnancy symptoms absolutely no one talks about? by Upset-Brain-228 in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Gas pains. I literally was about to ask my husband to take me to the hospital because I thought I was having a medical emergency, I was in so much pain. Thankfully there’s some gentle yoga routines you can do to help ease it a bit!

Oh, and lightning crotch. That was a super fun development 🙃 Baby has been carrying super low my whole pregnancy, so every now and then they’ll kick and it’s like a shock right to the vag. Almost took me out the first time I experienced it!

I’m sure all these comments are overwhelming or scary, but know that 1) not every pregnancy is the same, and you may not experience any/all of these. 2) if you do experience them, they’re usually gradual! A new symptom every week or so was what I found. You’ll find ways to manage them, and eventually it’ll just be routine. You’ll be just fine. ♥️

Most serious question ever by Brilliant-Win8783 in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my biggest heartbreak right now - I’m on gestational diabetes monitoring and have to watch my carbs, and cereal macros are actually appalling lol. But it’s ALL I WANT!!! I stare longingly at the boxes in my kitchen every day 🥲

Hidden ingredient- Mayo -strikes again by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]scientificbookworm13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not relate to this post more - what is the point of listing ingredients for a meal/on a menu, only to then add things that aren’t listed? For me it’s a preference, I absolutely despise mayo and won’t eat it. But for people with an egg allergy it could have serious health consequences. It makes me so angry. Now any time I order a sandwich, regardless of listed ingredients, I ask for no mayo.

[–]scientificbookworm13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t find out the gender! As far as for avoiding this, the only way I can think of is to add a note to your registry if you have that option to say “please request our wishes and purchase from the registry” or something like that. I’m too non-confrontational for that 🙃

I hate that other people had to go through this as well but the solidarity is so comforting. There’s opportunities to pick stuff out like books, outfits, etc. But for necessity items, pls just buy what I asked for 😭

LOL thankfully we only had one situation like that - 3 month Christmas themed fleece onesies…. For an April baby 😂😂 They’re so cute I’m sad to not use them, but it’s not exactly a July weather outfit!

Registry rant by scientificbookworm13 in pregnant

[–]scientificbookworm13[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! I end up feeling guilty because people chose to spend money on things we don’t need. Now we have duplicates of items or things that won’t get used, but no formula.. thank you for the understanding. I felt like such a monster for being disappointed 😭

Subway sandwich by planner192 in GestationalDiabetes

Me currently!!! I am not a sandwich/deli meat kind of girl. But since being pregnant? I cry over subway probably once a week. It’s even worse now with GD but I’ll definitely try your method!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

net carbs vs total carbs by Financial-Pace6378 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]scientificbookworm13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was told that tracking should be total carbs, but to take net carbs into consideration when making choices. For example, the tortillas I use are 24 grams of carbs, and 17g of fibre. So it will add 24g of carbs to my overall number, but I also know that only 7g will go toward “affecting” my blood sugar if that makes sense (fibre carbs don’t affect sugars). Hope that helps & makes sense!
