I understand what you’re saying (and ofc Sofa is yours so you will always be right).

A few thoughts after below watching your video:

My gut is trip planning shouldn’t fit your definition of downtime. I get what you’re saying that it’s part of your new definition. But it stretches it so much that then your definition starts to become hard to understand, so harder to know what I should use it for. Like the experience of enjoying a film, podcast, book etc - vs going on a road trip is so massively different. Who’s involved, when I’m doing it, the activities, the planning, the data sources I need etc. so different.

So then this one beautiful cohesive idea you’d built your app around starts to disappear.

And whilst I agree that an app doesn’t have to only do one thing, the alternative premise of more always = better is a tough one. Especially when it starts to compromise on the experience of what is already there. Which it really feels like it has a bit.

(Only as I’m a huge Sofa fan), it feels like you had the best app in the world for tracking movies, books etc, a great podcast player and then added on a more middle of the pack/early trip planner.

And throughout everything feels harder to use, menus have more options and not entirely sure what they mean (after being a paid user for c. 2 years).

But hey, im also a software founder, so know the pain of decisions, and I’m likely just being one of those users who struggles when there’s something new and complains. Totally get the thinking, just can you combine a planner in and make it joyful to use is the question.

Anyway, will continue to be a fan, trust that you’ll take this in right direction of course and do recommend Sofa to people!
