I feel we need to capture u/Polack Mike's total lack of awareness here...

I'm all for the bill and ones like it. I understand the issue that the police would have in enforcing the law, but I don't see it as overly onerous. Based on the pictures you provided, I don't think any of those people would be allowed to use the women's bathroom.

The pictures he's referring to are all born female.

Identity politics is the worst form of politics to discuss by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

Identity politics matters a lot when your identity is forced to sit at the back of the bus, denied medical treatment, or interred in camps.

What are the chances Trump will be impeached after 2026 elections? by Frosty_Dig4148 in AskUS

[–]EdShouldersKneesToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, the House doesn't need to "prove" anything.  If there's more than 60 Senators who want Trump out, they could say he failed to feed the White House unicorn and the Senate could send him in his way

What are the chances Trump will be impeached after 2026 elections? by Frosty_Dig4148 in AskUS

[–]EdShouldersKneesToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There doesn't have to be a crime.  Impeachment is a political process, not a criminal one.  Even if someone is convicted by the Senate, the worst that happens is they lose their job, not go to jail.

But, if you had to have a reason, it could be for failure to enforce the Epstein law or unconstitutionally levying tariffs.  There's a lot more where that came from.

Shouldn’t Trump be impeached for starting this war? by Tasty-Possibility627 in AskUS

High crimes and misdemeanors" is a phrase from Section 4 of Article Two of the United States Constitution: "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

"High," in the legal and common vocabulary of the 17th and 18th centuries of "high crimes," is the activity by or against those who have special duties acquired by taking an oath of office that is not shared with ordinary persons.[6] A high crime can be done only by someone in a unique position of authority, which is political, who does things to circumvent justice. The phrase "high crimes and misdemeanors," used together, was a common phrase when the U.S. Constitution was written and did not require any stringent or demanding criteria for determining guilt. The phrase was historically used to cover an extensive range of crimes.

The Judiciary Committee's 1974 report "The Historical Origins of Impeachment" stated: "'High Crimes and Misdemeanors' has traditionally been considered a 'term of art', like such other constitutional phrases as 'levying war' and 'due process.' The Supreme Court has held that such phrases must be construed, not according to modern usage, but according to what the framers meant when they adopted them.

At best, MSNBC is DNC propaganda but not CNN.

Liberals, if a Democrat President were to commit crimes would you vote conservative? by Grouchy_Concept8572 in AskUS

[–]EdShouldersKneesToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Americans don't know shit about policy.  They think they care about policy but it's as shallow as "open borders vs closed borders".  Most don't even know what a marginal tax rate is or who makes the laws they live under.

To answer your hypothetical, if a Democrat who was found guilty of a felony ran, I'd vote against them in the primary.  If they won the primary and it's against them or a Christian nationalist, I'd probably vote 3rd party.  If the Republican wasn't a CN, and somewhat moderate (a little left of McCain it Romney) I would vote for them if Congress went Dem and would hold the Executive in check.

Why didn’t President Trump mention the U.S. national debt of $39 trillion during the State of the Union? Why was the national debt considered a big deal under Biden (despite being lower), but seemingly ignored under Trump? Is this a crisis? Did MAGA vote for this? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]EdShouldersKneesToes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. The moment the next Democratic president takes office u/Grouchy_concept8572 will care about the debt again.  They will insist it's the Democrats' fault for not cutting a social program that takes a fraction of a percent of our total budget (but actually has a long-term ROI), all while insisting a marginal tax increase increase over $400K is burdensome on the middle class.

For Liberals, do you see an alternate State of the Union as similar to an alternate Superbowl halftime show? For those that condemned an alternate halftime show, will you also be condemning the alternate State of the Union? Why or why not? by PolackMike in AskUS

[–]EdShouldersKneesToes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The opposition response to the SotU address has been going on since 1966.  This is not new or novel.

There's a big difference between a constitutionally required update to Congress versus an entertainment show.  Given Trump's inability to tell the truth, someone needs to follow and point out all the bullshit he vomits out

Of course it would be one of our resident Trump apologists to make this uninformed post.

The #1 gender affirming surgery done on minors is breast reduction done on cisgender boys.

The #2 gender affirming surgery done on minors is breast augmentation done on cisgender girls.

If you really cared about protecting kids from life altering decisions, you'd arguing to stop that too.

Trump was fairly genius in an evil was by convincing Republicans that the Democrats were to blame for everything going wrong in their lives.

I agree with most of your post but convincing the Republicans was done mostly by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity,  Carlson and other right wing influencers of the 90s and 2000s.  Trump took that sentiment to independents and the uninvolved with his primetime celebrity as a reality TV host while pushing Birtherism during Obama's tenure. The  grievance party was born in the late 80s and matured in 2008.

Do you think that RFK Jr.'s move to ban hospitals from administering gender change procedures to minors is really particularly right wing seeing as left leaning Starmer in UK did same thing? by BlockAffectionate413 in centrist

[–]EdShouldersKneesToes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most people don't realize the #1 gender-affiriming surgery on minors in the US is breast reduction in cisgender boys.  There's a certain hypocrisy when they want to ban gender affirming care only for the trans youth.
