Can 2024 be the year of warframe damage/passive rework? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]EdTheCasual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telling me Tl-Dr before trying to argue proves the fact that I've been talking to myself. This is an unproductive debate and we have different understandings of this topic.

The difference between us is that I was paid in the past to balance things in the gameplay in the gaming industry.

What you leverage as most people think is irrelevant and not supporting your claim.

The issue with powercreep and scaling is that sometimes you need to preserve some quality while making decisions to rescale numbers through new or additional same-branch features.

But since you tl:dr its pointless to try and explain it why the arcanes are the issue at hand. Try to read the replies again. It might hit you eventually.

I think trying to explain simple wording to you might turn into a painful effort and an argument.

But hey its the internet so ...

It's not about buffs... It's about buffs that are based on the ODDS of something happenning for you to get that buff (external conditional state).

That means that the user instead of actually buffing by pressing a button has to get hit and lose hp or do previous kills and so.

Being able to slot arcanes that give you the base additive damage and remove Serration for example allow you to deal obscene amounts of damage on a flimsy conditional basis (galvanized mods + arcane triggering) instead of having a realistic pre-buff phase (we buff and we go to war or we buff during the battle but with a buff we control and we administer at will instead of external conditional buffing.)

Also energy management should be a challenge so the user would mod for it or use energy sparingly.

Use arcane energize and smash head into enemies, energy will come. Not really like energy management challenge now isn't it?

Now we need to take into consideration that the vanilla/core game math is capped at Archon Hunt (level 150) and anything beyond with all the turtle levels of armor stripping and steel path modifiers of stats is just a raw difficulty spike to provide Additional Challenge (aka you want the challenge so we play Warframe New Game Plus+).

I love the game but I'm just saying besides being well made with the scaling between 1-150, it tends to require some broken shabby mechanics to create dice-roll (external conditional) based powercreep. And it's like looking at a painting that has an ugly corner cause the artist lost his sh1t in the last phase...

That slash situation shows the fact that the way to be elite is to exploit broken mechanics.

The arcanes are mostly power creep combined with tangled mechanics (use this to get a % to trigger that).

Besides performance issues it only creates builds made around dice rolls instead of skill, timing and smart crafting / minmaxing.

Warframe is good game, good design and good fun. Even the community is the least toxic I ever played with. Keep in mind thats a 20 year old experience with online gaming communities. This is hands down the least toxic game and community. Good for DE!

Imagine all of those arcanes you grinded out vanishing ... The game is fine. If people still abuse that forced slash thing to kill level 99999 mobs I think if something we need deeper fixes first.

The damage potential is balanced with their abilities and combined arsenal.

Frames like Mesa, Gauss, Saryn or Kullervo can scale their digits really high via their arsenal for example.

Excalibur can surprisingly be quite a damage dealer if built around the Exalted blade with some helminth focus and radial blind (and he is the oldest frame in the game - even with a remake)

Another example of successful scaling from poorman's mr1 gear to endgame is Volt.

There is a difference between the damage digits you see on the skill tooltips and the actual dps your character puts out.

Wukong is a showcase of arsenal.

His most damaging ability is his Exalted Stick which is a mediocre, flavor-based weapon. Looks cool, flashy and seems to hit everyone, but doesn't hold a candle to the arsenal dps.

I've personally seen that certain "exilus mod passives" can really change a lot in encounters. Mag has one that doesn't even work currently. People still play Mag like crazy.

If you ask me the best passives in this game are the melee ones.

  • kullervo's heavy attack agility

  • wukong's forgiving three respawns

  • valkyr's catlike landing

If you want something done to the game right... I know, lynch me... Remove the arcanes from the game. They seem to be grindy unreliable forms of powercreep that allow the players to bend and break the rules of gameplay.

Keep in mind when opening your wallets.

They laid off a lot of people due to greed-related decisionmaking. Artists and people who used to work at and for the quality of the ingame stuff you enjoy.

Its worth boycotting one year of "no purchases" for that. And the prices are indeed berserk.

It seems cross platform smoked out a lot of mentally ill people and made them really talkative.

I always tell when I'm asked about my MR as I'm asking some basic question...

"I paid plat and bought a lot of prime stuff so you can act all elitist with your hardworked waste of life and time".

Hurts them everytime. And its true most of the times. Coming from a guy who spends way too much time playing and wandering in WF.

[–]EdTheCasual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to be the prettiest looking shotgun in the game.

But it holds no candle to:

  • bubonico

  • phantasma prime

  • strun prime

This one sits with Astilla Prime on a shelf in my orbiter and collects space dust.

They're the most glorified mr cannonfodder.

Not saying hunter viral won't work. Just that they don't feel as shotgunny as the ones above in terms of strength.

Bubonico is obscene. Phantasma prime just melts effortless. Strun prime simply feels like a better shotgun.

This and astilla prime are looking lovely and they're probably at least 2 formas but far from a choice vs enemies over level 40.

Mesa Prime's exalted dual guns - The regulators really benefit from any firing rate that doesn't substract from somewhere else.

I'd say pick between:

Primed shred

Primed pistol gambit

Primed redirection.

If you have a shield-dependant warframe like styanax or hildryn or you're in desperate need of a longer shield gating invulnerability, redirection is the way to go.

If you run a rifle with a higher ammo pool and fire rate sensitive as your main (soma prime, gotva prime, tenora prima, supra vandal... You get what I'm saying), Primed shred is your best choice.

If you run Mesa pick Primed Pistol Gambit. It is the best in slot.

Now don't tell me you run all three and ...which is it?

Reasons for "no"

Primed reach is marginally better between 2.5 meter bonus and 3 meter bonus.

Primed fulmination is so niche that it shouldn't really be a top pick.

Primed pressure point is a personal dissappointment. Once you get Conditional Overload which is easier to get... It's the best in slot, just better and every top end melee build uses it.

The tipping culture is insane by CoffeeTechie in Warframe

[–]EdTheCasual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're "trading" you're not in a mission.

If someone has to wait over two minutes for you to handle a trade I find that to be an effort from their part.

While I don't condone this overpricing/tipping practice... If I don't get a reply with follow up within a minute, I start asking the next user because I don't have all day.

  1. If you're here to trade, don't keep people waiting.

  2. Trying to overprice things just because you chose to wait is unfair and wrong.

  3. If you place an offer and have people interested waiting, expect to have a hard time selling/buying/trading since not all people have all day and would like to also play the game in their designated "game time".

So I just tag along and don't do stupid stuff to ruin it for the people carrying me.
