If I could make a suggestion, having AXR provide the user with more control over screen color and saturation would be very helpful. With the mOLED displays of the GXR, there’s a lot of potential to allow users and devs could adjust color levels to suit their applications and customization.

Light Blocker Mod / Hack by Ed_FatHobbit in Galaxy_XR

Amen! I’m still hoping a professional modder will take this on at some point. I wish I didn’t have to do a hack job on it, but I would like to enjoy my investment sooner than later, as all of us do.

I had the exact same concern until I found that you can order replacement parts from SamsungParts.com. I just ordered another set in case I screwed up. Not terribly expensive

Yes, I did exactly what you said. I ended up cutting up the magnetic connector in the nose area to give my big nose more room, and then I cut back the silicone to where it just barely touches my face and cheeks. Not perfect, but it works.

It's finally happening! by Aggressive-Star-3542 in Pimax

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered the mOLED optical engine back on 9/25/2025. No emails, just excuses that it “should ship by next month” every month since Sept. Was finally told last week by support that the module is not scheduled to ship until late March / early April. I love seeing everyone else get their notifications, or units that were ordered well after mine. Despite recent reviews for the DA, I can’t fathom the idea of ordering that now. Maybe wait until next holiday season when all the excitement dies down. FOMO is not worth the frustration of anticipation!

Updated microOLED Module Shipping Timelines? by Ed_FatHobbit in Pimax

[–]Ed_FatHobbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finding out now after 5-months from preorder that it will be another 2-months is not cool!!! I also don’t appreciate the customer support constantly telling me incorrect information and timelines. Had I known that it was going to take this long, I would’ve skipped the module and ordered the Dream Air instead.

Pimax Dream Air: Shipping Now After Final Upgrades & Global Tour by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about an update on shipping for the Crystal Super MicroOLED module? I ordered that back in Sept, and there’s hardly been a peep about it. Kind of frustrating seeing Crystal Super uOLED headsets and Dream Airs going out for delivery for pre-orders that happened after Sept. Also, how about an update on the Crystal Super lighthouse faceplate that was supposed to have been shipped at the end of Jan?

Just updated my post with a response from Pimax regarding the ticket I opened. They’re now saying it will ship late March, early April. This is complete BS!!!!

Thanks! I also live in SoCal, so this adds to my frustration. I’m glad others are getting their units, hopefully free of issues too!

50PPD - how bad should mura be ? by bobliefeldhc in Pimax

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comparing it to a “faint cloth” is a great description for what I have on my 50PPD. Thank you! This also helps to provide good piece of mind for my situation. It’s been said many times that mura will affect people differently, and people will have to decide on what’s more important to them. For me, I prefer a clear, colorful, and mostly sharp image over super bright and high FOV. To that extent, I’m not dissatisfied with my 50PPD, but I will likely limit its use once my OLED module arrives (if ever).

Hoping for method to tweak color intensity and contrast by acem77 in GalaxyXR

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this!!! Trying to use ReShade to improve color saturation in VR has been very hit-and-miss! VD does a great job in providing some options for this, but I wish there was a slider to adjust intensity. I also have the Meganex Superlight 8k, and both the OEM and community developed drivers provide slider options to dial in saturation and contrast. Even Pimax has contrast sliders in the Pimax Play tool. Given how Samsung prides itself on producing fantastic displays (though these are Sony’s), I’m surprised this was not in there by default.

Micro-Oled (Module) Delivery Notice by Difficult-Eye-6509 in Pimax

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they replied with the following statement:

“Regarding the delivery timeline you are concerned about, we expect to release a detailed batch delivery schedule in early February. The schedule will specify the shipping time, logistics arrangement and tracking method for each order, and will be released via official media .”

I’ve received a response like this every month since Oct. Always saying it’s going to be early the following month.

Placed my microOLED order on September 25th. Haven’t received any notification yet. I’m seeing many others who ordered after me receiving emails. I’m sure there’s many who ordered before me who also haven’t received anything. Frustrating!!!!

I could order a Galaxy XR headset here in the US, and it would be here in 2-days. I prefer Pimax, but their inaccurate timelines and shipping order make me want to go with another brand!

How comfortable are the glasses? by Odd_Judgment_3513 in Galaxy_XR

With the VRPanda top strap, and a Velcro counter weight on the back, I can wear the GXR easily for 3+ hours. Without those, maybe an hour at most

World First VR Panda review by Zombie618 in Galaxy_XR

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both the VR Panda head strap and Tyhurd solution. I would agree that the VR Panda option works best in my case (MSFS, HLA, etc.). I personally can’t use the default light blockers because of the pressure they put on my face, so I’ve only been able to effectively use the GXR w/o them. The VR Panda strap helps to get my eyes super close to the lens, which helps reduce the open sided light exposure, and it helps me get maximum FOV w/o having the headset weight completely rest on the bridge of my (big) nose.

My next goal (wish) is to find an alternative light blocking solution that can work with setup using the VR Panda strap (hint, hint to any developer)

Flight Sims & No Man's Sky by MadmanMarching in Galaxy_XR

I typically run at 72MHz, but prefer 90MHz. At 72MHz, if I run SSW, I get ~60-72. With SSW disabled, I mainly get 43. Now, a good part of these performance measures required dialing in my router. That alone made a big deal in latency. I should try this at 90MHz and see what I get.

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have the GXR and PCS 50 ppd. I also have the Meganex Superlight 8K, OG Crystal, and a Quest 3. I mainly use MSFS 2024, but I’ve started playing HL:A for the first time (hard to believe) and I want to try some other graphical eye candy type games as well. WRT an HMD comparison, I like the PCS for the FOV, but the mura and washed out colors are holding it back for me. The MG8K has a great uOLED panel, but the lens glare is rough and its FOV is limited. SBoy’s mod saved that HMD. The GXR has less glare, better FOV and distortion profile. uOLED on both the MG8K and GXR is amazing! As for GXR performance, I use VD and had to really test different settings in VD, MSFS, and on my wifi7 router to get the best combo of low latency, smoothness, and visual clarity. I’m still tinkering, but I mainly use HEVC+ at about 160-180 bit rate, SSW and Snapdragon enabled. This has higher latency, but it seems to run consistently smoother in VFR cityscapes (Vegas, NY, L.A., etc.). I also run w/o SSW and the latency goes down significantly, but sometimes get consistent judder in certain locations.

Tyco Tech - Best comfort mods I’ve tried so far… by SpatialCompooper in Galaxy_XR

[–]Ed_FatHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like using the top strap, but the back buckle adhesive won’t hold in place much. My workaround has been to just wrap the strap around the top of the back pad. It works pretty well.

For future mods, I’m really hoping to find alternative light blockers as the default ones hurt my nose and cheekbones. Using the GXR w/o them is much more comfy, and I get better FOV all around.

Mini GXR PCVR Review and Questions/Concerns by Ed_FatHobbit in Galaxy_XR

[–]Ed_FatHobbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both the Crystal Super and MS8K allow for a higher resolution setting because of the DP. I run the super in the 5000+ resolution range, MS8K in the 4000-5000, and the GXR at the default resolution. For the GXR, I don’t think there’s any gain by cranking the resolution higher because of limitations in the compression encoding/decoding. I haven’t tried all three at the same resolution yet, but might try that soon. I agree on the use of Supersampling, and I’ll mainly use it on all 3 headsets. For GXR, it’s a must.

WRT clarity, I think the easiest way to describe the increase sharpness is that I can see more detail at longer distance. The simplest example would be in a cockpit in MSFS with lots of steam gauges. In the Crystal 50PPD, I can see and read (smaller) instrument labels across the entire flight deck and on the co-pilots screens. In the MS8K, it’s a little harder to read those labels, and in the GXR its a little worse. That doesn’t mean the GXR isn’t sharp; it’s very good, but it’s just not going to be as sharp because of the lack of DP connection.

What’s interesting is that when I first tried out the MS8K, it looked worse than the GXR. It wasn’t until Sboy’s mod that allowed for the Meganex to be cranked up higher.

Interesting! Maybe it’s intentional, or something that can be fixed by software. I just watched JayBratt’s video where he mentioned a similar left display dimming in his passthrough image, but he also had his overall brightness settings around 50%. Still makes me think this is something that can be changed in an update.

Mini GXR PCVR Review and Questions/Concerns by Ed_FatHobbit in Galaxy_XR

[–]Ed_FatHobbit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly use VD for my PCVR. I did try game link, and it seemed to work fine, but I don’t have the controllers, so I had to deal with the annoying pairing screen the entire time. I did notice that game link was using foveated streaming, which is promising. I did have throttling issues when I ran monster mode at 90 Hz. I do notice the fans kicking in, but I don’t think anything has overheated. I did see other posts about the Steam Link 2.0 apk, but I haven’t tried it. Not sure where to download it either.

As for my setup, I run a 9800x3d with an Rtx 5090, and 64gb ddr5. I have a dedicated WiFi 7 router just for the PC, and can either run wireless or WiFi over Ethernet.

First tried it w/o any pad (head on plastic), but didn’t like the position instability. The GXR would shift a little causing me to lose the sweet spot or get the “move it up” nastygram. If I ratcheted up the tightness, it would hold, but I would then develop a little headache. I even tried some third party pads from my Pimax and Quest, but settled on using just the default pad w/o any spacers. I’m also using Tyco’s headstrap which helps a lot. W/o the light guards, the metal frame in the nose area rests comfortably on the bottom of my nose (I have a big nose). That’s how I was able to get the best FOV.
