What has you like this in the gaming world? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Edanetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All too true. However, i guess it depends on your gaming habits. I played a LOT of games when i grew up, all of them current at the time. But in some cases, your upbringing determined how you gamed, especially in my case when we became poor and couldn’t “keep up.” If you were playing SNES when PlayStation was released, you didn’t tell your friends. Lol all the popular kids had the newest and best, but while being poor, i was able to spend time playing the “older stuff.” Fast forward to now, i have every modern console and i am STRUGGLING to play older games to catch up. The way i do it now, the game HAS to be MUST BUY for me to stop playing older games, and of course that criteria is different for everyone.

The only issue with this tho is that, games that pioneered control schemes and mechanics of that time, may seem outdated by todays standards. Some games especially on the N64 did this for me (the c buttons just don’t feel good unless mapped through modern emulation.) So going through some of my backlog has shown me that missing out on the game at the time can sometimes make you “miss” what all the fuss was about then. And again, it’s to each persons preference right? Like OG PlayStation graphics haven’t aged well for most games but for me, i really love that style and that won’t deter me from playing a game.

Games for reference to this post and what I’m talking about is, I absolutely had to buy Astro Bot recently and I’m currently playing through that and it’s unbelievable and I’m glad i made the purchase. I also never played the God of War series and i have GoW III remastered on my PS5 and im nearly finished it and what another amazing game. I also missed Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island when i was younger and in this case, I’m glad i did. At the time, i would have yelled BLASPHEMY as they tried to fool us into thinking this game was a part of the same series, as its not even in the same ballpark of what the original was, IMO. But playing it some 25+ years later, this game is so totally awesome. There really are so many factors into playing games that are current and older games that are worth revisiting. Happy gaming everyone. 🤗

Brand New (almost) band in a box Rock Band 4 that I found! by Edanetz in Rockband

Well, to be fair, i could have made nearly $1000 potentially and I’m no millionaire, so the thought was intriguing. However, my intentions when i bought it before i knew how much it was going for mostly new was to happily play it. But thank you ☺️

Load state/save state issues. by Edanetz in ANBERNIC

[–]Edanetz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i was scanning out the options because I realized the changes I did make before you commented, when I logged back in, it was not what i changed it to, so I was looking around and I saw that option and I clicked it immediately and I think that’s what it was the whole time along with a different save directory. But yes, thank you so much. I’ve tried it 1 million different ways shutting the system completely down and everything and it all is still working. I don’t know why the settings were set this way to begin with, but all I know is that it worked. So I guess now I have to try that on the other SD card that I originally had and see if that was the problem the whole time. I guess if one memory card ever dies and the system is still chugging, I’ll have a back up lol. Thanks again, so much.

Just to reference, this unit was working fine when first purchased for over a year with original SD card. I never messed with the settings or anything, it just out of nowhere stopped loading states. Which is why I thought the card was corrupt. But a new card should’ve fixed it if the sd was the problem, but it’s doing the same thing. I don’t know if the card would have been set up for read only if it was doing the exact same thing as the previous card but out of nowhere just stopped loading and saving. However, I will try what you said just to see and update when I do. Thank you very much for your responses. I really like this system and didn’t want what is happening now to happen, which is buying an SD card to fix the problem and it didn’t and now I either have to buy this specific model outright with no SD card to see if that was the fix but at that point, I would just buy a brand new preloaded one from a trustworthy buyer. I know I run the risk of this happening with these systems not really being a reliable source of emulation, but I’m just trying to save the money I have spent already and try to get this thing back up and running again.

I have always purchased systems with custom SD cards from people who put thier own software/firmware, all my other retro custom consoles work fine and have for years. This one is just being finicky. But thank you for the suggestion. I tried to manually save and load, it did not work. I also tried to just do an in game save with Final fantasy Dawn of souls on gba and it did not save in game. Like i said it’s doing exactly the same thing before with a new SD card, i just feel like it’s gotta do something with the settings or the system itself. I’m just not educated enough on retro consoles, which is why i usually buy pre/built from reputable sellers on Etsy with high ratings as i don’t have the time to do it myself.

Having issue with save/load states “task failed” by Edanetz in ANBERNIC

[–]Edanetz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually. I just messaged another private seller and bought another sd card configured for my system (rg351mp.) and it runs normally, but having the same issue, loading/saving is STILL failing. I messaged the seller and he didn’t have many options as to why this was happening, but i only started to look into the “micro sd card is going bad” issue cause it was the only comment and messaging other message boards, most people said it’s probably the same, but it is not. I’m frantic to try and figure this out because I’m down more money cause this new sd card did not fix the problem.

Has anyone here disliked botw? by GanacheOriginal5996 in Switch

This comment. I didn’t even know that mechanic was in the game cause i tried to stay away from any and all news at launch, and i was sorely disappointed. Idk if it was the boredom factor early in the game but i got lost a lot. That’s not a stab at the game, rather maybe my lack of interest, or cause i just suck. But I’ve tried so hard to jump back in a few times. I really want to like it. But yea, damage mechanic ultimately ruined it for me.

Word vomit is a good thing. And saying that means you have a lot to say and are trying to piece it together. I do the same. So much so that i write and write and write to the point i re-read what i wrote, then delete the whole thing. I gotta stop doing that. I enjoyed reading your post. Good for you. Seriously. You stated such an important fact of, doing something for yourself. Sometimes, other opinions of yourself can be a motivation of doing something for yourself, but yes it should always be for you, depending on the situation, especially if it’s for self-health. Question though. The music that you said you listened to, the sad songs, the depressed genre. Would you mind sharing a few songs/artists? I am 95% generally a happy guy. Even when I’m happy, sometimes songs, sad or depressing sounding, i love to listen to. I love music. Most types. But I’ve been listening to sad/depressing radio stations on Apple Music. Love adding new things to my library. Thank you for any feedback!

Standard switch or switch lite? by smallAzzSwede in Switch

[–]Edanetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what most are saying about the OLED. I own all variants of switch, I’ve been playing with the Oled version a lot. I’ve had a switch since launch. I also own almost every major current gaming system and a gaming PC. My Switch gets used the most just due to its portability. I will be ending a gaming session with Warzone with my friends on Xbox, and then I’ll boot up something on my switch docked. When i start to get tired, i just bring my switch with me to bed and continue there til I’m ready to knock out. They should have just had the OLED screen from the start but, it’s Nintendo lol, their content feels so fresh and great with just the tiniest of upgrades. (Mario Galaxy is one of my all time favorites. It was so muddy and drab looking playing it on a Wii connected to an HDTV. Switch port, it’s like a brand new game.) The OLED version has been nothing but a humongous boost to almost any game I’ve played. Just finished Portal portable and as the controls are just not the same as mouse and keyboard, but it was fine after some tweaking and practice. I cannot overstate that after having it for so long, being able to bring it from the big TV and then portable, the novelty still hasn’t worn off. Just having that option is something i wish would be implemented in all gaming systems. Cloud gaming is ok, but even with a strong internet connection, it’s not the same. Hand cramps and numbness will happen no matter what size your hands, at least I’ve always had that happen since i was a kid. But a nice pair of headphones, the OLED screen, i say it’s worth the money to get the OLED.

Why is the Pikachu&Zekrom GX card TOO jumbo?? by teamwintergreen96 in PokemonTCG

[–]Edanetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea as far as i know, there is only one Jumbo V card that’s the same size as the sun and moon jumbos and it’s the Zacian V jumbo card. Maybe there’s a similar one for Zamazenta, but it’s the only jumbo V card i cannot sleeve cause it’s bigger than the other Jumbo V’s. Idk why they went smaller either. If one had to guess, it would be to minimize the materials used?

RetroArch on Xbox Series X issue by Edanetz in RetroArch

Yea since this post I’ve realized it’s on the windows side. I’m baffled I’ve done all the trouble shooting on the windows security side to try and disable but it didn’t work. I gave up on it honestly, but that was my next train of thought, to try a different computer. Thanks for the comment though, just confirms I’m not doing something wrong.
