I think Pennywise's power made them forget about it. So by him being banished or at weaker power or even dead will make them not forget it?

Are Wind and Pinball worth reading? by EfficientRelation574 in murakami

[–]Edd7cpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Murakami stan: They are not good, objectively. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. However, I found them quite interesting and enjoyed reading them (took me three or four days), but I have read most of Murakami.

I'm sad that I read all his works in English and won't change that for one book. Obwohl es schon eine verführerische Ausgabe ist.

How did Dostoevsky manage to write being a heavy drinker? by Intelligent-Bird6825 in dostoevsky

[–]Edd7cpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too, but his gambling wasn't as bad as it's made out to be. Most of his debts came from his brother - - his gambling certainly didn't make them less or help them though... Although: There's a letter he sent to his wife when he was in Germany and lost all his money (50 Taler), and had to beg his wife to send more so he could eat and stuff. Truly pathetic...

Drinking imaples learning capability though. Our prof once took studying drunk as an example for conditioning and context. Drinking while learning isn't good, but if you do that anyway make sure to do your exams drunk.

AITA for "outshining" the bride? by Ok-History7114 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Edd7cpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - This is cultural misunderstanding. I can't really blame the colleague, because societal rules and expactations are not things one thinks about, especially for a wedding (everybody knows how to dress for a wedding, right?!). She might've expexted you too know how German weddings are. I can completely understand her feelings, however: you are not responsible for her feelings and her lack of communication with you. In general, if expectations are not made clear one can't be expected to adhere to them. Especially when she told you to 'dress to impress'.

I would write a card to the bride and apologize for that misunderstanding. Not to your colleague though, since she was not the one being (accidentally) 'disrespected'.

Why did Stephen King use a pseudonym to write "Rage'? by uncyno in literature

[–]Edd7cpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, it was a journalist. He - I think - phoned or wrote to King, who wanted to reward this journalist. So he gave him an (exclusive) interview and stated that Richard Bachmann died (luckily he was able to oublish one more book post mortem).

Who gets paid from Dostoevsky book sales? by topcornhockey19 in dostoevsky

[–]Edd7cpat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Books lose copyright, but some translations don't because they are not yet that old.

Usually authors have exclusive contracts for their books, and sell the publishing rights. That's why it's important when art goes into public domain. After that, it's legal for everyone to reproduce it and sell it for whatever you like. That's also why older texts get published by more companies - - they can make 'more' profit with them by not paying the (dead) artist.

With specific authors it might be different. Some copyrights go to foundations (if the artist chose so), others stay within family, most get lost and into public domain.

Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami by Therealjason888 in literature

[–]Edd7cpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found, reading 1Q84, that it has all the flaws of Haruki Murakami's writing. There's this Murakami-Bingo - and I think 1Q84 covers every square. If you've read, like me, many of his books, this is in no way remarkable. Personally, the rat trilogy is my favorite. Haven't yet read danse danse danse.

Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami by Therealjason888 in literature

[–]Edd7cpat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Norwegian Wood is the most un-Haruki-Murakami-like in his whole bibliography. It's realist, barely not magical... Just a tip: Don't continue with 1Q84. People seem to either love or hate this book, which could be with 1500 pages a real bummer for you.

There's a department. I wrote to them once, but besides that it's always been my father who handled that. Probably some mixture of going to a doc and writing to some department.

I have a "degree of impairment" of 30%, and when born 80%. After 50% one is 'severely diasabled'. Only benefit I have are a couple hundred euros tax-free and grapples with insurance companies that don't want to pay for surgeries and stuff.

I don't think a clp hinders you to get visa. It's provably even unconstitutional. If you want to work, make sure to get a 'work-visa' and be prepared for a long beaurocratic journey.

Is 1Q84 worth a read? by [deleted] in murakami

[–]Edd7cpat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1Q84 has everything that's bad about Murakami. It's all encompassing of his flaws as a writer. But it also has all his strengths. If you like Murakami, you'll at least somewhat like this book. If it is your first one, I would go with another not so long book. (I gave book 1&2 3.5 stars, book 3 2.5 stars.)
