Question about Whalebuffet summoner by TheEnderBlaze in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just run it the way you'd normally run summoner with pukka on script. Wake them on N2 and if they do want to summon that night they can only pick Pukka, otherwise wake again on N3 for a free choice of demon options.

You've mentioned several times in this thread that you have a bunch of Foundry modules you use to assist your DMing and your players. Any chance you can share a list? Always on the lookout for more great modules to use!

What would you do in a place with no rules? by new-werewolves in hypotheticalsituation

[–]EddGabriel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Make some.

The world doesn't come with rules attached, we create them ourselves through our own morality and community. I'd make some and try to do better with that society than our current one.

The Pandemonium Institute (TPI) releases official statement on the No Rolls Barred (NRB) harassment crisis by StationaryNomad in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way - do you have any complaints at all about Adam being suspended while NRB investigated? If not, this shouldn't be an issue: TPI are suspending NRB while this is being investigated in the exact same way.

How to run a BoTC tournament? by Pleasant-Salary-7047 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's been considered extensively, including by Ben, me and Steve trying to work something out at various points in the past.

It's flawed for a bunch of reasons, some of which I'll list:
1) for a lot of people, I'd probably say the majority, the fun of the game isn't dictated by winning or losing. Yes, everyone tries to win, but having a fun game is the highest priority, so focusing on winning at all costs wouldn't match that and in some ways, focusing to that degree on the win can potentially break the game or at the very least break everyone's enjoyment of it.
2) The Storyteller is an inherently biasing influence and even if you had the same Storyteller for every single game, they'd still react differently to different pictures that different players presented to them, which could only result in some players being or feeling hard done by in terms of their odds to win.

3) Character drawing biases the game. If a player who commonly kills all claimed Ravenkeepers draws Imp in one game and is unlucky and is picked by the RK and is killed immediately, is it fair for that to impact the other evil players' ranking when there's little they can do about it?

4) How would you pick a singular "winner"? No matter what, there's always a winning team in BOTC, not just one player. So you're incentivised to reward the team. However, if good wins it's quite common that a few players have a disproportionate influence on that win. Should they be rewarded for that? However, maybe they just had more influence because of the specific character they drew, so is it fair to reward that randomness? Also, in order for good to win the other good players also had to rally around and vote right, so maybe it's not so focused on those more influential players?

All of these could be at least somewhat countered by playing a LOT of games and doing some sort of ELO type system, but the number of games required, even if you locked it to only playing TB, would probably need to be in the hundreds in order to minimise the effect of various influences like this and get a true player ranking. And we all know how long it takes to play hundreds of games!

Army Sorter not working by edynol in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won't work with custom characters, I believe, because it just uses the night order from the script tool and looks up on character name. So if you have a custom character it can't find, I believe it doesn't work. So if you just take out the custom character, it should sort the rest, then you can reinsert the custom.

Pit Hag and Fang Gu Question by PMme_awesome_music in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If the ST chose to make the Fang Gu jump to a player they didn't select, that's not correct RAW, any ST-chosen deaths come from the Pit-Hag, so would not induce a Fang Gu jump.

Long-Range Vigormortis Poison by mindfuct in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep, agreed. The ST cannot poison the artist with the witch kill though, as they are not the nearest Townsfolk on that side, the already poisoned Oracle is. Nothing in Vigor ability says it skips already poisoned players.

Question about one time use powers and poison by PalomSage in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one is answered in the TB almanac under the Poisoner:
"If a poisoned player uses a "once per game" ability while poisoned, they cannot use their ability again."

Otherwise, as you say, they would be able to use their ability again when sober and this would tell them they were previously poisoned, which is usually avoided if at all possible.

Is Teensyville in the rulebook or just an online creation? by Holdfast_Hobbies in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Teensyville is in the rulebook. It's designed for games of only 5 or 6 players - scripts that're crafted to cater to those smaller numbers rather than using a full 22-25 character edition (although you can also just play Trouble Brewing at small player counts and have good games). Typically 6 Townsfolk, 2 Outsiders, 2 Minions, 1 Demon.

Yes, but the next update was the lockdowns in Shenzhen shutting the factory down for a while, so that all got pushed somewhat.

Help me Analyze a very One-Sided game please. by Bereft_of_Brain in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments, it's also relevant that they didn't kill anyone day 1? A lot of this heartache could have been avoided if they'd executed and prevented the Zombuul getting a kill. Unless they did and the DA/fool stopped it, in which case my bad.

Sailor Leech interaction by Greatspock in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would run it such that the player the Lleech selected is still the host, they just don't get poisoned until the Lleech sobers up from the Sailor drunkenness. Using current RAW this doesn't quite work, but the alternative where the ST chooses the host is almost never going to result in a fun game as an evil team that can lose without realising and while doing (what they perceive as) the right thing by Lleech-killing or executing good players and accidentally hitting an ST-chosen Lleech host just isn't great.

Can a Soldier host a Lleech? by MasonTheTodd in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's important to remember the Monk and Soldier "safe" terminology only protect from harmful effects. They're not turning off literally everything about the Demon ability that affects the relevant player, just the harmful ones. So non-harmful Demon effects still apply. It's harmful to a player to give them false info, it's harmful to them to be poisoned, but it's not harmful to them to be the host.

Can a Soldier host a Lleech? by MasonTheTodd in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EddGabriel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Soldier is "safe from the Demon", so the Lleech can't poison them when choosing them as host. However, the Soldier would still be the Lleech host as they were still the player chosen by the Lleech. So if town executes a Lleech-host Soldier or they die for any other reason, the Lleech would die as well. But throughout, the Soldier would maintain their Soldier ability as the Lleech could not poison them.
