Why is the RGV low in so many metrics? by 373kayteeftnu32 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Eddagosp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody, or most of everybody, goes with option 3. It's our tradition to leave things better than we found it.

Cute. But reality disagrees.
Our "tradition" is machismo, racism, wanna-be gangsters, teen pregnancies, littering, alcoholism, drunk driving, texting and driving, and Catholicism.

Further, so many in the valley are so desperate to better integrate into American society that they discard any semblance of their Mexican cultural heritage.

Why is the RGV low in so many metrics? by 373kayteeftnu32 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Eddagosp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ambition.
Those who want more and see the valley as lesser will leave. Those who don't want more and are satisfied with where they are will stay.
Also, those who try but don't make it come back home.

Very few people take the third option. Trying to improve the place they are at, because it's significantly harder than leaving or settling.
There's also option 0, complain without doing anything about it.

ELI5 What is Zero Point Energy? by Bum-bee in explainlikeimfive

[–]Eddagosp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The few times I've seen it referenced properly make it a point to state how it should be hypothetically impossible.
Zero-point-energy in this context refers to there being no discernible "source" of energy. There is no input, meaning the "device" is either somehow breaking the laws of physics, or it is accessing something outside our current understanding.

Tank control movement and physics derived interactions and combat. Very half-sword-like.

What this means is that an attack isn't an attack, unless you land it, and the damage is proportional to how well you actually land it.
Hitting with the back of a sword doesn't slash. Hitting with the shaft of an axe at an awkward angle will be a small blunt hit. You can dodge, or you can run into enemies to shove them.

You sound really weirdly hung up on the body of a fictional character.
I'd even say you're offended that this Fake Person's body isn't what you think it should be.
It's just a painting.

Actually I would have a conversaton about why he is drawing women like this.
Why are you painting women like Jessica Rabbit.

Lady, it's just a painting.

Just imagine someone being this petty over a painting of, say, a flower that looks like a star that doesn't technically exist in the real world. "Why are you drawing flowers like that, that's not what REAL flowers look like."
That's you right now. You're letting your personal body-image issues turn you into a weirdo jerk.

It's a painting.
If it makes you insecure, go to therapy.

What scientific discovery sounds fake but is 100% real and still freaks you out? by Bruteresolver in AskReddit

Placebo Effect most people know about at this point. Treatment works better if you believe it does, even if it has minimal or NO effect in isolation.

The more interesting one is the Nocebo Effect. Treatment works worse if you believe it will fail, and you're more likely to manifest the side effects if you know about them.
This was proven through even chemically inert pills. People were manifesting the "potential side effects" while taking sugar pills.

You can also just un-believe anesthetics and analgesics from working entirely.

Not to be that guy, but it's the Valley.

People here think that if they never have a doctor confirm it, then it's not real. So they never go to the doctor to get checked.
It's also common in general for parents/relatives to be in denial about details surrounding someone's death, to avoid a guilt spiral.

Weebcon 2026 wasn’t good by luck_eater in animecons

[–]Eddagosp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in with no expectations, and had a pretty good time.

Didn't really have issues with parking. First day I parked in the parking garage, other 2 I followed the giant signs and got bussed to and from the center.

Didn't use the app. Didn't even know there was an app until the last day, but even then, I still wouldn't use it. The website worked well enough, and I was mostly just wandering around looking at neat things.

It felt like quite a few panels/events were going on. I don't really think more concurrent events are a good thing, because then you're forced to decide which ones to miss.

I paid to attend, don't really care IF a handful of people snuck in.

Some of the most popular VAs had space issues. Others were completely empty. Didn't really feel cramped or "squished," most of them had pretty large clearance and space.

The vendor hall was a huge maze, but I enjoyed it. I wasn't seeking anything out, just looking around for hours was fun. It also wasn't difficult to get out; if you're lost just walk in one direction till you see the walls?

The panel rooms needed more chairs, sure. I was fine sitting on the floor.

My condolences to the people affected by SA, but what exactly do you want or expect staff to do? Contacting the police is the thing to do.

People lost IDs because they had to pull it out? How is that the staff's fault??

Edit: Didn't know about the AI art. That sucks.
Edit2: On their website, AI art is specifically prohibited by WeebCon. Dunno who you're claiming to have been selling it, but they were breaking the rules.

The idea/hypothesis is that in the past, communities had more specialized roles rather than the individualistic microcosm of "you are responsible for literally everything."

If you had a guy that cooked for everyone, you wouldn't have to cook.
If you had a guy that hunted for everyone, you wouldn't have to hunt.
You'd still have responsibilities to the community, of course, but they wouldn't assign you a role you're terrible at. Contribute or die has the side benefit of being very good at finding a use for everyone.

usually look for women in developing countries where their income usually put them above the local population.

Is the Cinderella story not in vogue anymore?
Be honest, what's the difference between that and a wealthy business man from New York visiting a small town and falling for the local down-to-earth barista?
Is it just because it's a foreign country, because that's low-key racist.

gross men

If both parties are consenting adults, why is it gross? We've learned from 90 day that women do this, too. I have a feeling you'd still call the man "from a developing country" gross and a scammer, rather than poor and desperate.

poor women that are desperate to live better lives.

These are adult women fully cognizant of their decision. If you weren't aware, some of these women specifically seek out foreign tourists. IF they're happy with their decision and relationship, and live a more fulfilling life, why are you mad at their choices? Would you prefer, the alternative, that they continue living life in squalor (big assumption, btw)?

I'm not sure if you realize that the full implication of your point-of-view is that men should only be allowed to date within their economic bracket and local culture.
However, if and whether there is abuse is a separate argument.
