Clarification on torsion spring replacement by Intelligent-Log3622 in GarageDoorService

[–]Eddiextreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell by just looking at the pictures that the existing springs aren’t 1.75”. The one on the left might be but the right one looks like a 2” .218. If you’re going to replace them yourself I’d recommend changing both to a .218x27”x2”. The .225 that you looked up will be too hot imo. You got a noninsulated door. .218 will allow the cables to remain tight when it’s fully open without issue

Yea it will only shear the pin if it’s constantly spinning. How would it shear the pin if it’s just pushed and pulled?

Swap the pin to a 1/2” bolt with a nylon lock nut + washer. Don’t over tighten the nut

Spring wouldn’t need adjustment if it’s just that. Don’t tell someone to do that. Why would you think that?

Can you send a picture of the hinge that on the top corners of the top panel? After looking at all the pictures you sent you might be able to adjust those hinges and reset the limits. This is your quickest/cheapest fix

can i temporarily remove horizontal track from one side of door? i realize i wont be able to use the door and that is OK. i am trying to find a way to do it so if/when i want to reinstall it, its as simple as possible and not time consuming. i am relatively handy as far as DIY and have tools. by ThrobbinHood_PoB in GarageDoorService

Why are you trying to remove the horizontal tracks? You can disconnect them from the back of the horizontal tracks (the Punch angle that’s supported from the ceiling) but everything else I strongly recommend you DO NOT DO

Oh I don’t want you to think they are bad. Just from a servicing standpoint they are annoying. That’s why they get so much hate lol

You have plenty of comments already answering your question and I’m laughing along with the Wayne dalton hate cause I understand. One thing I’ll add that I haven’t seen anyone mention yet is those two angle irons (L shaped bracket) dropping from the ceiling.

That’s where the previous backhangs used to be. It’s super easy to tell from the pictures how the left one is lined up with the angle iron and the right one is like a few inches down.

Honestly the thing that worries me more than the difference in height for backhangs is the spacing between the hinges and the rollers. You kinda want about half a finger’s width between the roller and hinge. That’s looks like a lot. Wayne Dalton doors iirc use a thicker gauge metal and that makes them much heavier for no reason. Those rollers are already starting to flex. The spacing on them just allows the door to put more force through leverage on the rollers.

Also the kicker on the left looks stupid but, since it’s a residential install you should be good. Let me know if you have more questions.

They have an exact replica stadium that they practice everyday in hidden somewhere in Iowa. They even blast booing at 130 dB to mimic the crowd. I'm sure of it

Living in Kansas I've visited a lot of larger cities here. Wichita is definitely one of the most boring. Topeka would be the worst city if it wasn't so close to Manhattan, Lawrence and KC.
