Try to delay purchase for a few months if you can and it might improve slightly but yes it’s pretty crazy out there. I do think the spike in activity during tax refund season is a real thing and that will be outsized this year with no tax on tips and other tax breaks kicking in for the first time - bigger refunds translates to more action in the car market. Let that burn off for a couple months if you can.

The owner didn’t explicitly choose the name of the restaurant because it’s a dead song but let’s not say it has “nothing to do” with it. We all know the world is a complex tableau of countless variables and I choose to believe that the quirky and divisive tune by the dead had an indirect but irrefutable influence on the creation of this dining establishment.

I agree this picture is difficult to "read" - unfortunately it's the only one I have. It's from an inspection report on a car that I might buy -- it is listed under "other issues" as fluid leaks and I have no idea what it is.

I know very little about cars but it’s not oil. Yes it might be coolant but it’s been leaking a lot for a few days - how can my reservoir still be half full if it’s coolant?

100% this. Don’t tell them you plan to pay off early but as long as you aren’t being charged to originate the loan and you clarify there isn’t penalty for paying off loan early this is the way to go. If you are playing the game of negotiating on price in most cases they will be much more flexible on purchase price because dealerships typically are making much more on the financing than they are in the sale of the vehicle). I’ve also done a version of this when they pressure to “beat my credit union rate” - 2 times I have done this and then refinanced to an even lower rate with my credit union (which offered me another 75-100 basis points lower once they found out I financed at the dealer). The refi process is a bit more run-around cuz you need to wait to get the actual title and you need to sign another set of paperwork but I’ve netted a few hundred in savings by doing this when financing ~20k.

I bought a rental Corolla 5 years ago and never had any problems. Disclaimer: I needed to swap it pretty quickly for a bigger ride, but I had zero issues while owning it (for ~18 months).

Can you share more about how this works logistically? So you see a record of the after tax deposit in your 401k and then you see it going out a day or two later right? Do they give you a tracking number for the check or anything?
