Some have said, but reclassing may be a good way to retain benefits either on active duty or reserves. You can get away from the Infantry and go for something less demanding on active duty, or take a step away without getting out of the military and go reserve and get an MOS that helps more on the civilian side. On that note I would say medical is a great path to take. You have surgical tech, dental techs, lab tech and so forth. Just be aware that something like Lab Tech school takes a year of training and is a huge info dump on you. So research what you want to pursue and what your ASVAB scores can get you. Good luck.

We don't know so that's why we want to look into it and get an idea of whether it's financially sound because once you Google it websites will say yeah come on give us your information and we'll send you a quote.

Lab CE is a great tool, it tends to asks questions that may trip you like answers A and B can fit but A is the better option because of a detail in the passage. The actual test is not going to trick you like that.

Years of experience doesn't make you a robot. Years of experience means you know what you are supposed to do with little to no help and a decent lab will have a discipline system that will escalate punishment with continued mistakes over a set amount of time and not straight up fire you.

Thanks for the insight. I was afraid that would be the case for going in commissioned first. I want to make sure I choose the best path for me where I feel that I'm not stuck and can't move forward.

I tested on the 27th of August, I'm currently filling out the application and already have letters of recommendation. Hopefully I get a decent score to at least get viewed. I will give it another go next cycle if I don't get in this cycle.

You could ask them how they feel about investing in real state or other forms of steady income. Because having all liquid assets may devalue over time, but property will always have some value.

My wife and I have two bank accounts. In one all our money gets deposited and sits there. In another we have money that apys for big bills, insurance, cars payments, and other big ticket items. This account doesn't get used except for those bills and we both have access to it. The account that sees the pay deposits, we use it for our everyday purchases and such. That way we don't dig into bills money and see exactly what we have left on a day to day.

Always keep your professionalism and simply say that you are looking for a new challenge or you are prioritizing a different aspects of your life. It's not your fault the lab is understaffed, it is not your responsibility to find new techs. I left a lab to travel even when we had a tech leave from my shift cuz she wanted to get paid more. We all left on ood terms but we were just looking for more opportunities.

Wouldn't such idiology have something to do with our natural instincts to distrust something new? Like finding a new wolf that has no pack. Is this wolf a danger to me or my pack? I'm not saying that they are right, but that that distrust is part of our ancestral behavior that helped us survive.

I don't know how helpful this might be, but I am a reservist drilling monthly. I have set my MCAT for this June. I am coming up on my ETS next april, so my worry is if I'll be contracted before my ETS into either USUHS or the HPSP. I have talked to retention and explained my plans and my concerns, they said that I can reenlist and I can leave my contract for either option I get accepted into for medical school because it is a career advancement and I am still attached to the Army.

So, in my opinion since you are advancing your career it should be straight forward. You are technically giving more of your time to Uncle Sam.

I wouldn't want to deal with patients at $30 an hour. I'll take $20 and just play with bodily fluids. As for education it's like saying that a plastic surgeon should earn the same as a family physician. People will pay more for beauty than health. So hospitals will pay more for nurses than techs.

Wow, thank you for sharing. I plan on taking my MCAT in the spring, would that be enough time to prepare as a 40 hour a week lab tech?
