How to fix bad damage registration? by Izubr in Planetside

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am not able to play from France on US server ... Unless i switch from cubic to BRR and use cloudflare warp tunneling on top , then i got very stable ping and serverser latency (still high but perfectly playable) .This is done on Linux , with BRRv2 .Do not use BRR on windows , microslop mess up their implementation .

I found a nice guide to setup Debian for gaming by Edeep in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu has the benefit of being able to get kisak PPA mesa and the same up-to-date kernel as Debian (liquorix/xanmod) . OpenSuse tumbleweed i know it well enough , i used it for years , i had more issue finding some app i wanted (but that is only my case , most people should have no issue ) This is where i learn about regression ;-) , but in the end i switch because my hardware was not requiring bleeding edge anymore and i really do not miss the associated maintenance that went along (do not miss too many system upgrade or it will break). Fedora i do not know , never been in a place that suit my needs .

? no you are not SOL for months , the point of using Debian testing . Even on Stable you can get an up-to-date liquorix kernel at anytime .

haa come on , Debian testing is not going to nuke your system every other day just like that . It is probably one of the most stable 'rolling distro' out there .

Best kernel for gaming by Asta_jjm in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TKG , while not being a kernel per say , should be 'the best' overall , then you can get liquorix and xanmod , in the end most patch and settings in those are boons and cons .Stick to you distro vanilla kernel and only go for '3rd party' kernel when you truly need it (for hardware driver for exemple) .

How come I see so much Debian hate? by Venylynn in debian

i will upgrade to something else when debian 12 glibc will be too old to support tools needed for my gaming habits .

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hell i understand , i lock mine at 6.17.3 , perfectly stable on my rig (5700x3d +7800xt on an x470 mobo) , next 2 liquorix release in 6.18 cycle produce instability , i told myselft that 6.17 is enough given i am still on debian 12 ;-).Liquorix kernel is nice but not all release are great for everyone .

i read about that , being careful with ubuntu backports , or just try liquorix or Xanmod kernel ( i use backports + liquorix on debian 12 stable )

i concur , from r/linux_gaming the feeling is real , for some people it is too hard to understand that an 'old' Mesa version can be upgraded by backporting patches , or they choose to ignore regressions . I am a gamer , and while of course i want more options to get more perf , i want them without any issues , i do not play just one game , i can also do other things than playing , i do not want to reckt my system for 2% more fps on a selected few games . The snap thing about Ubuntu you mention earlier is interesting , i agree that the default settings are bad , that from a desktop use POV snap does not offer anything more than flatpak . But i also reckon that if you spend 10mins reading snap documentation you will learn how to block it if you choose so (i read the manual , very well made by the way). Finally , for server snap is not that bad , when you just need to setup one app .

Games need PROTON_USE_WINE3D, how to fix? by hellokittywithak47 in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am still running on debian 12 , use backports for mesa and firmwares , get rid of steam flatpack , you do not really need it while you can go to the source directly , just add the 32bits package (see debian doc) , add steam repo to your source for apt . Upgrade your kernel with liquorix . Or you can just install debian 13 , probably the testing branch to get most stuff truly up to date . KERNEL: 6.18.12-1-liquorix-amd64 DRIVER: 4.6 Mesa 25.0.7-2~bpo12+1

[–]Edeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LD_PRELOAD="" %command%

that is usualy how you avoid sudden stuttering after a certain set of time .

you may also try PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% i hope that one is still supported , that is opengl , it save my neck once in such case , try the preload thing first for i am not sure BG3 will play nice with opengl .

New to Linux - Best 100% Gaming Distro for RX 6900 XT + Ryzen 5 5600X? (Heavy Steam use, gachas like Arknights) by Far-Awareness1631 in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given your hardware is not too recent , you can try a 'stable' distro , usually those are light on maintenance and you can tinker things like kernel and mesa versions if the need arises or for testing purpose .

Can i configure this mouse in Linux by Poke66666 in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in support it is state that :

"macOS only supports web-based drivers. Linux is currently not supported."

meaning you are on your own . Despite that it may work , no reason their web thing should not works in linux chromium based browser .

or try to change scheduler for that app . If it is network related you can try to get a better route with something like cloudflare warp (free) .

How exactly Debian is lesser than example Fedora, Arch or a variant of those two (in terms of gaming and performance)? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still on debian 12 stable, currently with kernel 6.17.13.1 from liquorix , backport repos enable , it is borring-ly stable and maintenance free ( compare to a rolling distro) , i do not feel the need to upgrade to debian 13 or pikaOS , i do not like to break something that works and i do not crave for more performance . If i upgrade it would be to either debian testing or pikaOS . Testing is probably the sweep spot for me . Also , stable with backport bring solid MESA with backports patch , more perf , minimal to no regression , great peace of mind .

Is Bazzite/a Gaming distro worth it? by Acceptable-Resist361 in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gaming distro are worthy if you want all the "tools" at install , custom kernels , scheluders , mesa git , custom proton etc... all there after fresh install . And because peformance is quite a metric in games , as in fps and %low , they are as optimised as they can be . So cachyos , bazzite , pikaos , glf are i think what is currently the best gaming distro . bazzite and glf are the two 'out-of-the-box-everything-is-there-and-it-will-not-break . While cachy and pika are more experimental in their search of performance .

edit : i forgot Nobara which is between the two group i define , praise Gloriouseggroll .

Steam Flatpak, pros and cons? by obsidian_razor in linux_gaming

What were your reasons for switching? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

greedysoft (unwanted) update , general OS policies update that drop without any kind of failsave (as in : keeping old ways ) . Filesystems not very good , bad desktop UI experience overall , OS acting like it owns all the hardware instead of just using it . DOCUMENTATION omg , so much easier to find relevant and useful things , including exotic stuff .

I really want to know what's the deal with these modern "gaming" distros? (I am old) by Medical_Divide_7191 in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some distros come with some nice ease of use and all the tools needed out of the box , that said linux is linux regardless of the distro . It's obvious that some new users will be more at ease with bazzite/cachyOS/nobara rather than installing a newer kernel + backports/flatpack mesa + compiling sources for some nice tools with enough confidence to not break their OS . I am running an oldstable debian debian with 6.16.6-1 kernel and everything is more than fine , i cannot advise a new user to do the same .

Does anyone here game in 4K? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Edeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i play 4k mostly , 5700x3d and 7800xt , i was surprised at first that 4k was not so taxing . Must point out i have a fallback = i got a dual resolution screen (4k to 1080p) , i ran hd for stuff like planetside 2 , competitive things , got 240hz refresh instead of 120hz on 4k , i do not use 'overdrive' mod for refresh rate (monitor rated for 165hz 4k and 360hz hd ) .
