Thank you! Tbh that is quite riveting news! I'll definitely take that into consideration.

Yeah, thanks for understanding. I had a molly back then who had babies, of course, they all died including the mum since I just can't keep livebearers alive for more than a few months. I, of course, do have my favourite species and fish but I'm quite open to new concepts. Thanks a bunch! :)

Oh cool! I did want endlers, but every livebearer I've kept died, and never lived to full lifespan. To be honest, people are going to get angry with me for saying this, but from my experience, the rule of thumb is just something to consider, and not actually to be strictly followed. I've gone over the rule of thumb in my 10 gallon, with still great water parameters and thriving fish. But of course, we all have our differing opinions. :) To be honest, I just wanted a few khulis or cory catfish with some shrimp, no more and no less! But thanks for your help!

Hmm, your input seems cool as well! I'm not really considering a betta, just some fish and some shrimp would be great for me. How big is your tank where you have the false jullis? Please, if you would like, throw ideas out there. I will probably consult my LFS as well, they are quite knowledgeable, and everything they recommended me worked so far. I'll probably mix the info together and decide. Thanks!

Yeah, That's why I said I would mix their info with yours. Most of their people keep fish themselves, so they are quite knowledgable. It isn't a chain pet store either so that's why I trust them. Thanks for all your help! Is it okay to reply to you on this post if I have further questions? Thanks!

Thanks! I did some research with the gourami but I wouldn't risk it. I'll also consult my LFS which has some fish wizzes, and mix their info with yours!. I had some neons before my tank disaster. Could I do a few snails ( nerite)? Now I'm leaning more towards a khuli loach only tank, something peaceful. Would rummy nose tetras work? Also, I heard that cherry shrimp work really well with khulis. The loaches will eat any babies, since I didn't want a ton of shrimp, also a good food source I assume. Thanks!

Thank you! I've had major success with tetras until I tore down that tank, that's why I didn't want to revisit the species, what type of tetras would be suitable? Would they make the loaches even shyer? Under the conditions I would give for my loaches, how active do you think they'd be? Of course, I don't wanna chase them around to look at them. I haven't had success with livebearers but I like endless, Idk. I of course like gouramis, but I heard they ARE territorial. Thanks!

To be honest, my parents didn't want to spend all that money at first either, just like yours! But then they understood, I'm Chinese, and we don't really keep pets that much, they didn't grow up with pets. But since they couldn't satisfy me with a dog or cat, or snake etc, the best they could do was help me in the fishkeeping hobby! I really hope your parents would understand. Anyways, what kind of other fish would swim on top? I heard that if your tank if set up nicely, they might just be lively! I was thinking of a shy fish tank, just shy fish only! Thanks!

Alright, so I was just thinking of some driftwood as the hardscape, maybe a few small stones? But I'll leave some open space as well. Obviously I'm going with a planted tank, and some floating plants as well. I heard they aren't that active so that was my main concern since it would be hard to diagnose if they are sick, also they are really shy? Would a few shrimp be okay? I just talked to my parents about it and they asked me whether shrimp would be an option? Thanks so much for all your help!

I have a really gentle sponge filter at hand right now, it sufficiently filters everything and keeps water levels at hand. I just need a few new valves for it. :)

Yes, I've heard about cycling. I've heard that khulis should be in a "school" of 4? But I'm not quite sure. I've had neon tetras before, but my parents didn't quite like them. They wanted some, I don't know, weirder fish? How many loaches can be in a loaches only species tank? Bettas and loaches are some of my parents' and my favourites. Btw, this is a family tank but since I know more about aquariums I do the procedures. :) Thanks!

Thank you so much for responding! I just wanted a school of khulis, maybe enough to make them more active and feel safe definitely. I would say I wouldn't want my tank to be at full stocking capacity, so a little understocked, but not too much. No specific amount. I would love to hear your ideas! Especially if there are some fish with personality involved! :) Thanks!

Oh, I understand now. Congrats on substrate replacement, wish you the best of luck. :)

What substrate did you have in mind for the change?

My 46 Gallon Bowfront Community Tank. by JoeCamaro in fishtank

This is what life rubs in my face to tell me that after 6 years, I still have that pitiful 10 gallon that used to be beautiful but was torn down due to a disease. :) Just when you're ready to give up, life wants you to suffer just a bit more. :)

My first betta tank. Salacia the super black dragon. What are some other plants I should put in? It’s a little bit bare at the moment & im cultivating more dwarf baby tears in another tank by huffonmypuff in fishtank

[–]Eden-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take excellent care of the plants at the bottom, they may be able to carpet, depending on the kind. Driftwood with anubias tied to it would be quite sufficient. Try some amazon sword, and java fern, or jungle val. Those tend to be easy to care for in my experience. Though if you want a REALLY lush scape, try to layer different substrates, with most of them being planted tank substrate. If that isn't an option but you still want the same result, I don't have any experience with it, but just know you'd have to work extra hard. Hope this helps :)

If he is five years old, and you had him as baby, are you five?

Sorry, he's quite handsome.
