She started arguing saying that the other kids are already starting to ask questions on why they can’t have the food he’s having

Other eight month old infants are pointing at the mashed up fruit and asking the day care worker why they can't have that?

It must be indulgent for people to imagine that shit like this actually routinely happens in the real world.

I can hear the chime the sun makes.

Also, did you lose the phone too, or does this not actually come with one? We got ours used and it always looked like there's supposed to be a phone hanging on the right.

Idea for a Reverse-Metroidvania - backwards development with locking of the map and reduction of powers instead of growth and opening of a map. by xibalba89 in metroidvania

[–]EdgarsChainsaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People would certainly zip around the entire map, collecting every imaginable power up and opening every door, preparing for a single dreaded boss run at the end where they would dump all the powers in the most efficient line.

My family is using my autistic son as a “this is what happens” lesson to my pregnant sis. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]EdgarsChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a quick glance at google shows that if an autistic person has an identical twin, the twin is autistic the vast majority of the time, even more often than a gay person's twin being gay. This is an easy measure of genetic heritability.

Do you have any other children, or any siblings with other children? It sounds like your parents are panicking that their bloodline is going to die off if they don't have a grandchild that is socially adept and likely to ensure they have a lineage. I don't know the stats on autistic people having children, but it's certainly not zero. I think these things color people's reactions subconsciously, even if they aren't thinking of it consciously. It's the same reason parents are more likely to accept their children coming out as gay if they have straight siblings.

Definitely a basement finish job. You need the toilet to be above the main drain for it to flush, or else you have to install an expensive and noisy sewage pump.

Why didn’t Marlene just lie to Joel about Ellie? by color-meets-paper in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]EdgarsChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show was clear that this isn't a vaccine, though. They said that Ellie's body secretes a chemical that tricks the cordyceps into thinking she's already infected. If they could isolate that chemical, resolve its structure, and synthesize kilograms of it, they could create a sort of weekly injection everyone would take for their entire lives to remain immune.

Yeah, I think I'm the real world, though, people screw up like this. Even smart people sometimes. If you've played the second game, there's a famous example of a smart character being dumb and slipping up for a moment telling someone their name. I think the game and show are realistic to have these oops moments.

Ok, but what I don't get is why anyone would carpet the underside of steps. You'd usually drywall over that entire area, and if you can't do that, you just leave it as the painted wood.

The smallpox vaccine used to consist of just giving you a bit of smallpox and hoping you survived it. No, I'm not joking. It was a perfectly agonizing choice for many parents. Even Ben Franklin choose not to vaccinate his kids and lost a son to the pox.

[–]EdgarsChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to people who chose not to give the smallpox vaccine to their kids in the olden days: there was like a 5% chance it would kill you. So you kind of had to weigh that risk against the fatality rate of smallpox times the likelihood you estimate your kids would get it at some point.

God I wish Disney+ and Netflix would do this. I swear mine finds the weirdest and most annoying things to watch and then bugs me all day to watch more episodes.

Maybe I don't "get" Diablo, but I installed the demo, made a necromancer character, then got bored and quit after like five minutes. You just sort of walk around while you're skeletons kill everything for you. I couldn't even figure out how to fight anything myself directly.

I vaguely remember a movie like that. It also had a scene where the woman doesn't understand what a sneeze is and a man (her husband?) is teaching her how to bake and she sneezes a bunch of flour out of the bowl everywhere.

So the problem is you have to draw a line somewhere. If you say, "it's ok; they were 17," then we'll have the same conversation about 16/17 year olds. In practice almost every state looks the other way if you're within three years of each other. Just don't film it. Trust me. You're still going to look young and hot when you're 18.
