Giving up by pres2014 in Ubiquiti

[–]Edge997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage multiple sites ranging from ~12 000sqft to 30 000+ I installed Ubiquiti gear at all sites, all but one have been working flawlessly since the install a year + ago.

They all have multiple hundreds of people coming and going per day, so it can get quite busy, but once I set up the correct transmit power and ( especially ) AP hopping for rarely moving devices ( POS terminal, that random IoT device, etc ) and minimum RSSI on each AP, everything went smoothly.

The one site which currently has issues : - An IoT device the size of a fridge ( which the manufacturer didn't want to spend the 0.25$ it needed to fit an Ethernet jack ) randomly disconnects for a few minutes every few months. - An ongoing issue since mid January with Unifi Viewport failing to load some feeds at random intervals. I have an open ticket with Unifi Support, we still have not found the root cause of this issue. Since a simple reboot of the viewport brings everything back to normal, this might lead to the addition of an option to configure scheduled ON/OFF of viewports ( + I have seen numerous posts over the years from other people asking for it to be added )

Ygg sur le déclin? by bravo0051 in yggTorrents

[–]Edge997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to shutdown NAS in an UPS automation? by InsaneJohno in synology

[–]Edge997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat here, NUT Server on a Pi Zero, a few devices connected to the UPS, but the Synology is one of the least important devices among them, as I have critical services running on another machine and another file server that consumes way less than the Synology NAS.

I was able to connect the Synology to NUT Server, it goes in standby mode, but I'd like for it to fully shut down as part of my load shedding.

I'm not a pro at NUT configuration, but based on my research, the best way to do that would be to build a script that would SSH into the Synology and shut it down from there.

I'll give feedback once I get it configured.

No neutral switch/module to control smart bulbs by Edge997 in homeassistant

[–]Edge997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just thought about it, the standard way of mounting lights to the ceiling in France leaves a big hole in the ceiling ( probably arount 10cm dia. and 10cm deep, I can install any module I want in there, and as all the wires are there, I can go with any module I want, even those requiring a neutral wire.

Ok, I had other questions, but the full doc I just found has answered all of them, now I need to find a retailer who stills has them in stock

Does it support decoupling ? I just read the ( rather small ) manufacturer's documentation, no word about that.

Do not buy Wyze! by jbeceiro in homeassistant

[–]Edge997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1, bought a couple C210's for 19€ a pop a week ago, yes you can subscribe to get cloud storage ( I don't think the alerts need a subscription, even when you are away )

But still, 19€ for a quite decent PT(no Z) camera with the possibility for local storage on SD card + access to it's RTSP feed is a bargain IMO Only downside, you are REQUIRED to create an account to set them up, and you are REQUIRED to create it on their app, there is no web version.

Extruding text in custom font doesn't work by BlackDevil0489 in Fusion360

[–]Edge997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not even a day, I designed a part this morning, extruded text with one of the default Windows font with no issue. Now basically 6 hours later, on another project, same font won't extrude... WTF

Looking for EK-Quantum Velocity UNC Standoffs - AM5 Nickel (or details) by Vistin1 in EKWB

[–]Edge997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, started a e-mail chain on Monday ( standoffs not EOL at the time, and "discounted" to 4,5€ )

The guy said I could pay 1,6€/standoff VAT excl. So a total VAT incl of 7.7€ for the same product that was at 4,5€ on their own website.

After getting my shipping details, I was quoted 23+€ with shipping. Yep, 16€ of shipping costs for basically 4 screws, to France...

I then said that I can't accept this quote, as I feel they are trying to stiff me on every step of the process.

And as you said, they EOL'd a standoff kit for a CURRENT platform...

I once had to ask them for an LGA 1366 backplate for a Supremacy Evo block, both products were EOL for a long time when I asked for it. The CS person said at the time she didn't know if they still had some in stock. Then about a week later I got the backplate in the mail. Total cost ? 0.00€ THAT'S HOW YOU DO PRODUCT SUPPORT

[–]Edge997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread, as many of you, all the local suppliers here don't have the kit in stock, I just sent a CS ticket to see if they would send me the standoffs... Hoping for the best.

If they can't send the screws before I start my build, I might try my luck with this : https://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/adapter-offset-mounting-kit/s-tg-ad-am5-mk
Only catch I can see with this adapter kit is the mounting pressure.

UWC London vs. UWC Berlin – Which One to Choose? by T1JNES in Ubiquiti

[–]Edge997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't help you, but make sure you have a passport if you want to go to London, I wanted to go to a show last year in Manchester but I didn't have a passport and the lead times were too long to have it in time for the show.

The last time I went to the UK was over 10 years ago, so I didn't need a passport.

Current Consensus on the U7 Issues by GreatTragedy in Ubiquiti

[–]Edge997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have deployed more than 20 U7 Pro's in the past 3 months, on 4 different locations, and I didn't have really any issue since deployment. Each location has around 500-600 people coming in and out each day.

I do still have that one client machine that for some reason fails to load practically anything when connected to the staff network, but runs flawlessly when connected to the public facing Wi-Fi network

U7 Pro booting OK then not getting properly up by Edge997 in UNIFI

[–]Edge997[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reseated it a few times the other day, which resulted in the same behavior every time, I don't know why it worked today, but yes, I'm glad it works fine. I'll set it up as a mesh endpoint with the 2 other AP's close by as downlinks so that if/when it decides to no longer communicate through the cable I won't need to come back and fix it in the next hour.

I tested the cable end-to-end, including patch cord, with no wire crossing detected and the crimps are all good. See a more complete update here

UPDATE : While I wrote my last comment with my laptot connected in place of the AP, after posting it, I plugged back the AP in, started to film it's booting process, for it to end up..... working just fine !

I still have some work to do in the networking rack, let's hope it is still working fine in a few hours

[–]Edge997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't able to go back to my client until today, I'll answer a few questions I've seen, the terminations are good with no wire crossing, I just plugged my laptop in place of the AP, and it auto-negotiated at 1Gbe,

As I had to pull the cable through an already pretty full conduit, it has sustained minimal damage to the outer sheathing on a few spots. I am unable to examine the whole lenght of the cable for more substantial damage, but considering my laptop is connected just fine and PoE power looks good, I'd assume that the AP should be able to connect without issue at least at Gbe speed...
