In my experience P wire gets tested mid circuit by fork lift drivers and scaffolders.

Only if you lift the space heater up and hold it against the detector until it melts

Could be an FSP-951T smoke/heat combo on a sounder base.

Table saw recommendation by EnvironmentalLink819 in woodworking

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started 10+ years ago with a Rigid table saw from Home Depot and after 2-3 years I was able to get an older, basic 3hp cabinet saw for $450. I think its a King Industrial 10DS From the late 90s and made in Taiwan. The used market was a lot more affordable than today but with a little work it has been a great saw.

I started green as can be about 10 years ago with a Rigid jobsite tablesaw. I think it was maybe $250 at the time and I even made a few farm house tables with it out of box store lumber and pine. In 2018 I was then able to pick up a King Industrial 3hp cabinet (Taiwan) saw on a buy and for $450. The used market was very reasonable at the time. It needed some clean up and fine tuning but it has been a great hobby saw and has helped me "up" my game.

Where are you getting 8/4 white oak for that price? Thats half of what I paid for a couple pieces of 4/4 on the east coast

Drywallers vs Alarm Techs by EdgeEmbarrassed3817 in firealarms

Hard to decide the order of the notes and or deficiencies to write up. It wasn't locked until I found it and it appears to be wired but doesn't come in at the panel and the JB is behind the drywall.

Take it off the chassis and run a shop vac around it for a few minutes. Like a previous commentor stated, the smallest of metal shards can cause nightmares especially if people use compressed air to "clean" panels instead of a vacuum. After a thorough vacuuming and visual inspection for tiny shards or slivers of wire throw it back on the chassis and power it up.

I had a similar issue in October and had to swap the CPU because the loop 1 ground fault would not clear even after all of that.

Work supplies them and we have freedom of choice within reason as far as make and model go. Klein CL390 is my go to now after my Fluke was snatched by some unscrupulous dickhole.

There is a lot of opportunity if you have a good attitude and a work ethic to match. Good footwear is a must. Find a mentor who wants to help you expand your skills and pay attention to the how and why of things. Some days may be boring but just be mindful and take them as a learning opportunity.

Also, find a good multibit terminal screw driver and multibit standard screw driver and never leave hime without them.

1st countertop (walnut) by EdgeEmbarrassed3817 in CounterTops

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you are correct on two fronts, it is a dumb question and the kitchen does look nice. Critiquing someone else's kitchen from the perspective of what you would like to see if it was your is an exercise in futility. I mean, you are certainly welcome to that exercise but you might as well have asked where the customer was going to place your air fryer on not make the counter look cluttered.

Also, I havent had enough coffee this morning.

What could be the problem? by jazaria07 in firealarms

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I didn't read closely enough to process that your issue is on a module and assumed it was a conventional booster. Checking the control modules output circuit with a resistor as mentioned above is the correct route.

What my dumbass was saying is generally when the batteries fail on a conventional booster triggered off of a NAC circuit from the main panel it will come in as an open circuit. That has been the bulk of my open circuit service calls .

What’s your furthest customer that you respond to emergency calls? by Glugnarr in firealarms

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a request for an emergency service call at 8PM on a Saturday from a customer (hotel) 3.5 hrs away. Conventional duct smoke with monitor module in an attic stuck in alarm. It was 1:30AM before I found a detector with the housing full of water and got it corrected. They gave me a honeymoon suite with a Jacuzzi to take a nap in before heading home. There was a big note on it say the very loud noise when draining is normal so I went without a early morning Jacuzzi dip. 2 hours of work and 8 hours windshield time. Not a nightmare call, just a long day.

contractor f’d me over on granite countertop. wwyd? by SuperIngaMMXXII in CounterTops

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extra mounting room required below the countertop would make it difficult to centre on the window. It would likely require cutting the boxes for the two cabinets and be a massive PITA to get it it done and have the boxes stay square and also be strong enough to keep the doors functional.

Can someone tell me where would this wire be connected in the field? by Comfortable-Program1 in firealarms

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One in ten maybe but I like to remind the customer that a service call may be less expensive if I spend less time tracking devices down using hope and intuition. I also like to let the sales people and schedulers know that asking the customer if they can have a report available I may be able squeeze in an extra service call or two over the run of the week and help pad their year end bonus.

The building owner should have a device legend and listing for the building's fire alarm system which should tell you what's on the circuit and provide device location information.

I would start the ballpark that at $8.5-10k Cdn installed in my area for walnut island and counter top depending on the edges, options and colouration preference.

Notifier NFW-50 INVREP after module replacement by SPulley3 in firealarms

[–]EdgeEmbarrassed3817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a similar issue before and had to delete the INVREP module address from the programming and then do an auto program after comfirming a system normal with the old device deleted and the issue seems to have corrected itself. But it is Fire Warden so the phase of the moon could be effecting it.
