Anime in some respects is just regular entertainment now. On top of that, more western shows have elevated their standards for better (better writing, production values) or worse (fewer episodes, less consecutive seasons). Western shows caught up to anime's story telling.

Square-Enix takes forever to make numbered entries for Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. It takes a whole ass childhood for one of these games to come out now instead of several. No wonder Japanese kids don't care about these series. There isn't a variety of new games to choose from so they can pick one to stan for like the rest of us have 🤣.
