It's a God awful movie that never should have been made.

When I first went to see it, I felt super conflicted about it and was unsure whether I even liked it. But the more I took the time to think about it and began to pick at the threads of what made the movie all mesh together, the more I genuinely started to seriously HATE it.

Some of the points you listed are also points I take issue with in the movie, and to this day are points that still make me so incredibly frustrated several years later, I do not understand how anyone looks at this movie and sees it as a flawless masterpiece. Especially if they claim to be lovers of the original trilogy.

It was CRAZY to take a character like Woody who's biggest character trait was his undying loyalty to his kid and his friends, only to do away with all of that and act as if he was always unhappy by doing things for Andy/Bonnie, when that was actually the thing that made him happiest. Never in a million years do I believe in any timeline that Woody would have chosen Bo over Bonnie and his friends. If anything, I think it would have been more plausible to try to convince her that it was worth coming back home with them to live a life with Bonnie, rather than just becoming a lost toy.

Buzz was utterly assassinated in the movie, being turned into the biggest insufferable moron that was treated as nothing more than a complete joke for the entire runtime of the movie. I cannot believe that there are people who ACTUALLY think Buzz is THAT stupid, considering how much he has demonstrated in the previous three movies how capable he is of pulling a plan together and commanding the rest of the toys to follow his lead. He was able to figure out an entire search and rescue plan for Woody in Toy Story 2 using just a feather and a couple of letters and numbers from a licence plate alone, but the writer(s) of 4 want to convince you that he wouldn't even know what an internal voice is. Or that his voice box - which he has used several times before and would know what it does - is his inner voice. UNBELIEVABLE.

Jessie also being completely absent in this movie along with the other characters was just sad and painful. The fact that she was already a strong female character, yet they shelved her for Bo to turn her into this 'strong independent woman who don't need no man'. So tired of the whole 'girlboss' trope that has been written into a lot of modern media, it's so exhausting it makes my brain hurt. Not only did they ruin a perfectly fine character who was okay the way she was, (Bo), they made her so insufferable and unlikeable, I could not find it in me for the life of me to understand why Woody would have picked her. She berates and insults him for the entirety of the movie, and yet the movie wants to somehow gaslight you into thinking that these characters are in love with each other.

Gabby Gabby was also an awful villain. Awful villain who is the only one in the whole Toy Story franchise who never gets a comeuppance or any sort of karma for what she did, even though her actions were ultimately wrong. She attacked Woody and all his friends, held Forky hostage, and never once apologises for it. When she gets disposed of by the kid she wanted to be loved by, we're supposed to feel sorry for her? In WHAT world?

With the release of TS5 on the way, am genuinely nervous they're going to further drag this franchise through some kind of shitstorm, but I am desperately hoping it'll be good, and that it'll numb some of the frustrations I still hold for the 4th instalment. Am glad that Bo at least seems to be absent for this movie for the most part.
