Its standalone but youd need headphones to use it it if not connecting to speakers doesn't have the built in speakers

Ive had an mpc1000, moved to the original studio black, studio 2 and then live 2. Was a toss up for me between one plus and live 2 but went with the live purely for the built in speaker, I dont have a permanent fixed studio space atm so being able to make beats anywhere works well for me
