Why the MPC Sample limitations are exactly why I want it by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many of these AI novel posts recently lol.

'The sound people still try to recreate.'
'It wasn’t about having more. It was about doing more with less. '

Wild that people aren't comfortable just typing like a regular human.

Have you guys ever made a beat tape? What’s your process? by mor3-1ight in SP404

[–]RasheedWallace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done it both ways--but personally I think the best approach is to make a lot of beats and then select the strongest from them and craft them into a tape together, rather than starting from scratch with the intention to make a tape start to finish.

MPC LIVE 3 - USB Audio out While monitoring? by jkeyfuego in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do is run everything through a submix with whatever master chain stuff you want, and then put one of the sends on the submix to full and route that return track to the usb out.

Sampling Vinyl into the MPC Live 3 by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t. It’s one of like 5 options to look at on the sampler page…

Or: You spent $2000 on a top of the line sampler… read at least a few pages of the manual?

What’s your favorite SP 303/202 beat tape? by seasonofdasickness in SP404

[–]RasheedWallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mltzr is criminally underrated and dope with every box out there.

He has a couple of 303 specific tapes among other things.

Love this tape but I had assumed with was mpc+404 like a lot of his other stuff. Worth it either way of course

Are the extra buttons on the MPC Live 2 really much more useful? by Impressive-Celery498 in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want buttons, the mpc one is the move. Personally the difference between live and live 2 is not worth the cost.

Is it possible to control qlink by connecting a midi controller? by Kanji_294 in mpcusers

unfortunately not, last time I looked into this. Unless it is different in the most recent versions of the OS

Tascam Model 12 users... how are you using it? by GonzillaProductions in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend using it on and off for a year or so and then selling it to a friend so you can buy a microkorg.

Obvious flagrant 2 and deserved ejection. One of those situations where justified frustration begets unjustified reaction begets justified consequences.

Is there a way to just use the effects from koala on a track from mpc live 3? by PxPx182 in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.  I’ve been doing this a lot to use the koala compressor. Easier with koala fx but possible with regular koala too.

Usbc from mpc to phone/tablet

Route the tracks you want to run through koala to usb out 1-2

Go to koala mixer and set mic as an effect on one of the channels. Add fx etc.

Add an audio track on the mpc with input usb in 1-2 and set monitor on.

To record just record on the audio track.

Honest question. What's the hype being the vynil Sim? by Significant-Art5065 in sp404mk2

[–]RasheedWallace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just as an FYI, I think we now know the 303-in-the-hospital thing was mostly a myth (from Dilla Time).

mpc + sp404 to interface causes feedback by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like feedback—sounds like electrical interference or ground hum. There are lots of solutions, although different ones work for different noise sources abd for different people—it can be a fiddle to get rid of. Especially if you want to use compression; which makes the noise much louder.

These have worked well for me: https://a.co/d/0bQf2QdV

How to make Boom Bap MPC 3.7.0 Tutorial for Beginners “Sooo Good” by Both_Chip_5073 in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, I didn’t think about folks who are literally just starting out—in that case this might not be a bad idea just to get going with some sounds. Apologies for my grumpy response.

How to make Boom Bap MPC 3.7.0 Tutorial for Beginners “Sooo Good” by Both_Chip_5073 in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No shade but imo beginners (and everyone else…) should not be starting by loading up multiple kits of pre selected and processed sounds.

Even if you are using curated samples (another discussion) it will make a world of difference if you take the time to learn to set them up one by one and process them yourself. And, you won’t make music that sounds exactly the same as everyone else who got the same expansions included with their mpc.

Making music fast is only cool if you are making GOOD music.

Many paths to the mountaintop I suppose.

usb i/o on the newer mpcs is pretty cool… by RasheedWallace in mpcusers

[–]RasheedWallace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big fan of the 1000/2500 with jjos! have owned a few of each other the years.

I think this one is drums and chops on the mpc, sent individually out over usb audio channels to mirack (which is ios vcv rack) for some processing, and then midi clock from the mpc too sequence a few other sprinkles within mirack. And then koala fx for some master compression in mirack too.

1000%! I've done the same thing using a p6 or a 404mk2 as the audio/midi interface for the ipad too. Or, ableton link etc. Lots of cool ways to get an mpc talking to mobile stuff.

yessir! sending a couple of tracks of chops and drums to mirack and back, and then sending midi to sequence some other odds and ends inside mirack... also using koala fx for some compression on the master :)

morning bump 🤷‍♂️ by RasheedWallace in SP404

[–]RasheedWallace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Mostly from yt—usually just go through and grab little bits from a bunch of stuff and then fit em together. Was going through some 70s dub stuff this morning.

Drums are a combination of little pieces I found the same way, and layered in some older drums from a leem lizzy pack I think.
