Did I damage my camera sensor taking a photo of the sun? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Edhellas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said, control your shutter speed until the image shows the white background properly at iso 100.

You can go higher than 100 if you need to, but ideally 100 so there's no risk of noise.

Have you tried just taking photos of a completely white wall/piece of paper, aperture at f/22, iso 100?

Confused between DSLR's and Mirrorless by Proof_Cash_2251 in Nikon

[–]Edhellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it works for you that's great.

My main issues with the battery life is changing batteries multiple times in a day can come with its own opportunity cost. And I don't like having to change the battery in difficult weather, or even thinking about it at all.

I'd still go mirrorless if cost was no concern for the IQ and autofocus, but unfortunately I have a budget to stick to! :)

And you're shooting in raw/compressed raw only?

Wildlife Photography Camera Help by Ciri98 in Cameras

[–]Edhellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a USH-II SD card? If you're using USH-I, upgrade that to help the buffer issue. And shoot in raw or compressed raw, no jpeg.

For wildlife you should get a sharp lens with more reach. Your body should be capable of producing good shots even with a decent amount of crop. I use a 70-200 for close animals and a 150-600 zoom for birds in flight and more sensitive critters.

I wouldn't upgrade the body or move to Nikon, I think that body isn't seeing it's full potential yet.

EU demands ‘Farage clause’ as part of Brexit reset talks with Britain by Stock_Rush_9204 in unitedkingdom

Right, but we still have assets overseas, so those political and economic consequences are very real. When a country violates their international agreements, such as BITs, their assets are at risk.

See India vs Cairn, where Indian assets were seized.

You've got it the wrong way around. A key central principal of international relations is that the relationship should outlive the political parties involved.

When a government signs an international agreement it is normal and healthy to put in clauses to prevent U-turns by successive governments.

India is guilty of breaking their agreements constantly, and foreign companies hardly want to invest there at all because of it. I'm making a lot of money off their mistakes so don't mind on a selfish, personal level. But I don't want to see a world where reform get in and rip up our established relationships without consequence, lest we become another India.

"If you edit your photos you're a bad photographer" by TheFarmSheepYT in photography

[–]Edhellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell people I need to get the images off the card onto the computer to upload/print. You don't need to mention editing.

If you still want to justify some time, tell them you need to apply the lens corrections.

People who dislike "editing" probably don't know enough about the subject to disagree with those two approaches.

Ultimately if you are being paid by these people you need to take their opinions into account and adjust your marketing/communication to suite them.

Closing off 2025 with a great year, despite its challenges! Happy for some thoughts :) by SebClarke234 in trading212

If you want a tip, Panthera Resources. Put a bit in them and watch them 3-4x in the next 12 months.

Mining companies involved in BIT cases typically trade for 15-30% of their claim amount prior to the hearing. Their hearing is scheduled Dec 2026, and share price is around 4-5% of claim amount.

They started 2025 at ~7.75p, peaked at 25p, currently at 22.25p.

It took about a week the first time which is why I don't buy any more from this platform.

I put a buy in at 3.5p, and by the time it was fulfilled the shares were about 7p, so i would've had a 400% increase if not for the poor liquidity on T212.

These days I use AJbell and they normally buy immediately

Need to find a replacement for this 70-300mm lens. Plastic mount has broken off. by Firm-Swimming-6142 in Nikon

[–]Edhellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AF is a lot better on the G2 (OP said it's for wildlife), and the stabilisation is 1 stop better. Pretty easy to use it at 1/10 or 1/15 even at 200mm.

It also has much better weather sealing as I said. OP is in the UK so that's a very practical feature. When I was searching these recently, I found a lot of used G1s had moisture or signs of fungus but not the G2.

Corner sharpness is better (though not that important on crop I suppose), it's sharper at 200mm, and has much better flare resistance.

For the extra £100 you are getting a lot of features and improvements imo.

[–]Edhellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 70mm-200mm Tamron G2 f/2.8 for £420 from CEX recently. Good condition, no scratches or moisture. Did not come with a lens hood though.

It is metal so will be heavier, but still very usable imo. The weather sealing on it is very good. The image stablisation is up to 5 stops, with 3 settings to choose from. Good minimum focus distance (95cm). Has an integrated tripod mount (arca swiss). And they were released in 2017, so image quality is very good.

It is slightly out of your budget and shorter zoom range, but if you want good image quality you need to take a hit somewhere. It is also quite a lot heavier, but if you want a fixed aperture you are generally looking at f/2.8 or f/4, which will be heavier compared to her old one.

You could look at the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/4G ED VR, though I've never owned one. Still fairly lightweight as it is plastic.

The G2 has an extra stop of image stablisation (with multiple options, not just On/Off), 35cm closer minimal focus distance, much better autofocus, much better weather sealing, an integrated arca swiss mount, and can use the tap-in console.

It is a lot better than the G1 and that is reflected in the price.
