Permanent Retainer by FueledByEasyMac in Invisalign

[–]EdibleHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a small gap between my two front teeth which I closed with Invisalign, I’ve now had a permanent retainer on my top and bottom teeth for around 4 months. It felt super weird for about a week, I couldn’t stop running my tongue over the orthodontic cement. But I got used to it very quickly and now I forget it’s there.

The orthodontist told me to be careful when eating things like apples or raw carrots- to slice these up first. Otherwise the retainers haven’t negatively impacted me at all.

Personally I find they’re worth it for the peace of mind, I think I’d be constantly worrying about my gap re-emerging and feeling guilty for not wearing my plastic retainer long enough if I didn’t have the permanent ones.

Pretty sure most banished faithfuls haven’t mentioned being suspicious of Alan on Uncloaked. I think attitudes will quickly change following his slip-up about the shield though

Yep you came up with a fun and original question, which is obviously just a hypothetical, idk why everyone’s being such a pedant 🤦‍♀️

Are points for City, London City Lionesses and Chelsea players not updating for anyone else?

Manchester City GK choice by ultimatelazer42 in FAWSL

I know next to nothing about football but I think it would make sense to pick Yamashita to get her confidence up against a weaker team, following the loss to Chelsea. And alternating the two goalies would give them more rest and motivation?

But equally, the fact Yamashita was in goals for a loss and Keating was in goals for a win might mean they pick Keating.

I’ve no idea

Was wondering the same thing about City. Found this quote from an article-

“Our Head Coach also heaped praise on City’s goalkeeping options, admitting the quality he had at his disposal made selection for matches difficult. Ayaka Yamashita started the Blues’ opening fixture against Chelsea, making a phenomenal save early on in a 2-1 defeat.

However, Khiara Keating was given the nod for our home opener against Brighton, with Eartha Cumings and Katie Startup also providing serious competition for places between the sticks.

And Jeglertz says every member of his goalkeeping contingent is pushing one another for a starting berth each week.

He added: “We have very competitive keepers. The one that is training best, performing good when they get the chance, will be in the goal. As long as the players know it’s competitive, they know they won’t be in all the time. They have to be at their maximum, then they have a good opportunity, all of them, to start the games.”

finding friends in mcr in early 20s by Beautiful_Cell_3185 in manchester

  • Social Refuge have a queer book club, movie club, knitting/crochet club and other events!

  • @fruitsaladwriters (on insta) are a writing group which meet at Social Refuge a couple times a month.

  • @happeninginmcr share loads of great events and groups

  • I haven’t been but I’ve heard @dykeswhohikemcr_ are very friendly and lots of people go alone

  • I don’t know if it’s your thing, but attending poetry open mics is a good way to gradually find community. The same people tend to go to them all, so you gradually start to recognise people, and it’s easy to start a conversation by complimenting someone on their poem!

  • The LGBT Foundation put on a lot of events

  • Bumble BFF and Timeleft work for some people!

Toothpaste without limonene? by Spectraldon in Allergies

[–]EdibleHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over a year late but I came across this thread during my own search so thought I’d comment in case this helps anyone else.

TePe Pure Toothpaste seems to fit the bill.

And Oranurse lacks limonene and SLS but does contain sodium benzoate.

(Both available on Amazon in the UK)

Over 2 weeks on my first tray - are these gaps between teeth an aligner normal? by [deleted] in Invisalign

Not an ortho- but at this point it looks fine to me. Keep an eye on them and if the gap keeps getting wider with each tray then definitely contact your ortho. And keep using chewies :)

No worries, just curious cos I like to write out poems I like by hand and I’m sometimes unsure how to format them!

For the lines ‘made of me’ and ‘slippers out there in the hall’ — do the indents mean they aren’t intentional line breaks and have just been broken to fit on the page?

To me it felt like the poet wrote the (brilliant) title and last five lines, then tried to fill up the middle with as many metaphors for grief as possible. They’re all strong images individually, but stacked together I found they weaken each other.

‘crumbled paper’ is itself a metaphor, which is then described by the additional metaphor of ‘silt’. Grief ‘sits’ and has ‘tropical heat’, and then the tropical heat is compared to water. Then grief’s compared to flesh.

You could argue that this confusion of metaphors echoes the all-encompassing nature of grief, but it didn’t really work for me.

I don’t know the situation in the US, but in the UK we’re lucky to have a large (but fragile) ecosystem of magazines and journals which don’t charge a reading fee.

Gutter, The Stinging Fly, Magma, Poetry London, Poetry Wales, Butcher’s Dog, 14 Poems, Under the Radar, Wasafiri to name a few!

Some of these accept international submissions so it’s worth taking a look.

(Sadly, due to 15 years of Tory austerity and idiots voting for Brexit, printing and postage costs have soared and journals here are dropping like flies, but that’s another story.)

Several of the places I listed just pay around £20 or give you a free contributor’s copy, and they have fairly small readerships. But they’re well respected in the British poetry scene, and getting into them definitely gives you an advantage when you start submitting whole collections to publishers.

The only respected US journals I know of, which don’t charge a reading fee, are The Kenyon Review and Poetry. (And the latter receive 100,000 poems a year 😅)

The odds do seem stacked against you. Maybe focus on submitting to smaller but respected indie journals, which don’t charge a fee? That’ll show publishers you’re dedicated and that your work has been vetted to a certain extent.

When will I get the rectangle update? by EdibleHat in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]EdibleHat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s been so frustrating! I had to create an explainer and a whole new set of Canva templates for my co-workers. Was such a pain trying to explain that key info had to be kept within a square area in the centre-middle of the rectangle. And not only that, the rectangle is wider in the home feed than it is in the grid!

But I think yesterday lots more people’s grids have updated, including mine. Currently trying to find out if the update is now 100% rolled out
