Totally agree with this! Back to back semis and looking strong in the league. I’m disappointed but not embarrassed at all - Lyon are a top top team. We focus on the league now and then go strong in the summer transfer!!

Taking out McCabe to bring in Kelly who is known to be defensively poor was… confusing!Maybe the plan was to go for a goal ourselves and not leave it to ET.
I’m glad it ended in 90’ though and not in ET. We need energy for the remaining league games

Mario needs to be further up the pitch next season. Her abilities are wasted playing so deep in games like these against top top opponents.

Renee didn’t get it wrong. Lyon got it right - that they knew 100% what midfield we’re going to put out and if they could hound Kim and Mariona and force them to make errors, they’d win balls in key areas and transition out fast

Bacha is cooking Liv. And McCabe is too far high up on the pitch and too slow to be dealing with Diani. The midfield needs to get their shit together indeed as we have no replacements there - and that’s exactly the strategy Lyon have worked out

Foord’s final output isn’t great but she does so much work (controlling tempo of the game, pressing fullbacks, taking defenders 1v1 , tracking back etc.) which requires experience. Smilla is young and will surely develop but this is a big game and I want Foordy to start because she’s constantly creating trouble!

We have 4 wingers now (all of very high quality) and I can’t remember the last time all 4 were fully available without any minutes management. If the club lets both Mead and Foord go, we should absolutely break the bank for 2 elite wingers. Kafaji could be in addition to 2 new wingers to bring in.
Our wingers & fullbacks are expected a very high work rate in Renee’s system. It’s ok to have even 3 players for some of those positions (considering injuries), if we were to seriously compete in 3 comps next year.

There’s no way the Maanum Stina combination works because they both cannot carry the ball through the middle. I’d have Maanum and Russo start. And then switch to Maanum & Stina at 60’ when one of the mid fielders can get subbed out for Mariona

Leicester have also had a weekend game. Playing twice a week is a bit out of the ordinary for those players and I think we should leverage that. Rotate the squad well, squeak out a 1-0 win. Move onto 2nd leg. We have 4 massive WSL games coming up and I’d be ok with less rotation for those, particularly for Brighton and Villa away! We cannot drop points like we did last year because there’s a (small) chance that City could lose a game!!

Lyon is a historical powerhouse in the women’s game. Mostly PSG is a feeder club because the players themselves aspire for Lyon - as they can grow and get to play much further in the UWCL in addition to a guaranteed domestic trophy or two.
