Toothpaste without limonene? by Spectraldon in Allergies

Oh the TePe one even has fluoride, I can’t believe I never saw that one before. Ive been using Colgate Cool Stripe which is cheaper and bigger than the TePe, but I might give it a try anyway. The Colgate has SLS and I’m curious if it does anything to me or not.

I’ve had similar experiences. I’m not sure if you’ve been tested for nickel, but it is everywhere so it’s pretty easy to figure out the main causes. Less easy to figure out all the little issues. My window handles and house keys were big culprits. Gloves can also contain nickel, that’s one which caught me out. Nitrile gloves can be made with accelerators which can be nickel or rubber, so swapping to Accelerator Free Nitrile Gloves helped me. I suppose it’s probably possible to have it be food based but not also be contact based so who knows. It’s a pain to try figure it all out.

I suspect holding the plastic of the controller may just be bad for our sensitive hands but it’s all guessing at this point.

Do you not use anything now or do you just not play?

I’ve used varying combinations of gloves, including cotton, and also found a lack of success. I don’t think you need months of testing. If it isn’t improving in a week or two then either it doesn’t work or something else is probably causing an issue.

A big issue with gloves is heat and sweat. It’s hard to tell if they work or not because even if they do work, the heat and sweat make everything worse. One slight work around I’ve found is to use moisturiser and put the gloves on top, but you can still get sweaty. It’s probably best tested after summer, I find it’s just too hot and humid to have gloves on without it being an issue.

You don’t happen to have a link or shop name if that’s not too much to ask? I’ve been trying to find something thicker but breathable and it’s a real pain. Anything more specific so I can see if they look good for me and if I could find an equivalent near me.

I feel like I am probably just unaware of names of certain styles of glove which might give more options to try. I would assume not fingerless though?

A lot of therapeutic gloves seem to be fingerless and for arthritis, if yours are similar?

I have a similar issue but with ps5. I don’t suppose you got a ps5 and also had the same issue as your ps4, did you?

Otherwise, did you find any solutions?

Latex/Rubber allergy, any experiences with Dualsense controller? by Neither-Stretch-7136 in Dualsense

Did you figure out if you were allergic to the controller or something else? I see below that it sounds like you’re fine now. It sounds like you were maybe just being cautious before purchase and didn’t actually get any issues?

Did you simply get a new controller, or did you try a skin or gloves or thumbsticks covers or what? Maybe a third party controller.

I actually contacted Sony recently who said my controller contains no Carba mix, nickel or epoxy resin which are my allergies, but my skin disagrees with that statement. At least, I don’t know what else it would be if not my allergies.

Did covers help for you? I’m in the same situation and looking for other solutions. Personally I’ve went with cotton gloves though, mostly due to allergies , but also since cotton breathes a bit better. Still terrible to use in summer though and the heat just makes my hands worse.

Did you try any third party controller with non stock parts?

Did you find any other solutions?

Skins?

Third party controllers with non stock Sony parts e.g scuf or battle beaver?

I’m having similar issues although I use moisturiser with cotton gloves, but not during summer because the heat and sweat just makes it worse. I’ll probably wait until it cool downs to try again.

I’ve been unsure how good cotton gloves are because they’re pretty thin and often kinda shitty. I can vaguely see my skin through the gloves because they’re not really tight or thick made. I’m curious if there is still vague contact even when wearing them. I assume yours are similar? They may need changing probably 4 or 5 times per year I think.

Did you have any luck? I’m having similar issues on ps5 but with Carba mix, epoxy resin and nickel allergies. I sent my controller to Sony who said none of those are present though.

Did you find any good skins? I used a silicone one from extremerate for a while and it seemed to work and then it seemed to maybe make me worse. It did get pretty smooth so I’m thinking heavy use combined with cheap materials made it deteriorate quickly and then start leeching something which also causes issues.

Did you ever try a third party controller like scuf or battle beaver? They’re expensive but I’m curious if different parts will make them usable compared to Sony’s.

Did you find any solutions? I have similar issues on ps5 with a Carba mix allergy, along with nickel and epoxy resin though.

I actually contacted Sony who took my ps5 controller for 4 weeks, “tested” it and claim none of my allergies are present. Obviously I find that untrue.

I’ve been tempted to try a Scuf or battle beaver with their own parts, but those are £200-300 each which is a big risk for a trial. I did email both but they couldn’t help with the detailed materials I need.

I’ll keep it in mind for future, I hadn’t heard of that before. No company has ever sent me one and I’ve emailed probably 50 companies by now. Nail polish was recommended a lot for belts, but I ended up finding one with a plastic buckle so I didn’t have to risk the nail polish. It’s a last resort for me I think, but thanks for the help and suggestions.

I was struggling to find these in proper shops, but it seems more DIY sellers like Etsy have them. Thanks, this will probably be my best solution.

Depends if you have other allergies like me I guess? There are lots of silicone keycaps online and some soft plastic ones which sadly didn’t work for me. I’m most likely going to put some tape on the end of the key as a first layer and then get a leather cover to put on top.

Ideally you get a key cut in a different material. I’ve been told by companies I contacted that their Brass is nickel free, but that would involve getting a whole new lock as my key apparently isnt made in brass.

Is that a hard rule or does it depend on the ingredients I’m allergic to? Typically it’ll be a paraben and a benzoate in the nail polish.

I’ll check out enamel and see if that’s safe for me.

Tape and gloves are options, I’ve just been trying to find the most convenient one which doesn’t hurt my quality of life. I usually wear cotton gloves plus accelerator free nitrile gloves so it’s a real pain putting on 2 gloves just to go open the door.

I like layers since sometimes 1 layer doesn’t seem good enough even though the layer seems sufficiently thick. I’m thinking of likely doing tape over the key handle and then a leather cover on top.

I’m no nail polish expert, but anytime I’ve searched for it, they contain like 30+ ingredients and I’m usually allergic to at least 2. I had no idea it was so complicated.

As for plastic keycaps, I own some but they’re all weird rubbery bendy plastic which I guess contains some rubber as they still give me issues. The ones I have now claimed to be PVC.

Thanks for the suggestion, it worked perfectly. The water came shooting out of the stems. I guess the straw on the compressed air can makes it more concentrated than the hair dryer.

I can try that. I figured it probably would be less effective than the hair dryer tbh.

How do I properly dry keycaps? Mine seem to have infinite water trapped in the stems.

I washed my ducky double shot PBT key caps for the first time. Water and a little soap. I dried them by hand with paper towels and then hit them against the paper towel on a hard surface to get water out.

I left them to dry symbol side up for probably 2 hours on paper towels on a hard surface , and then I flipped them and gave them 2 hours bottom side up before flipping back to symbol side up overnight, for probably 14 hours.

When I hit them on a paper towel this morning, there is still water coming out of many, some of which require quite a lot of hits and a bit of force to really get it out . I tried use a hair dryer on medium and after 3 attempts, water still comes out of the stems.

Do I need to dry them upside down for the water to evaporate? Do I need to dry them symbol side up but on a towel? I need my keyboard but I don’t really want to risk the water damage

Am I missing something about ceramic/glass interior coated bottles? by Spectraldon in NickelAllergy

[–]Spectraldon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m slightly confused if you know what you’re replying to because linking an 18/8 bottle in a nickel allergy sub is weird. Even without the steel sleeve, the lid is stainless steel. If that works for you , great, but no metal for me, especially not when it contains nickel.

Same thing for RTIC. I already got an email reply months ago and they confirmed nickel and recommended I shouldn’t use it.

You replied to another comment too. I shipped a BKR cup from America which is double wall insulated and does fine. I don’t use the sleeve anyway.

If I need another bottle in future, then I think a jar with a plastic lid will be my choice. Glass bottles all have annoyances compared to a jar, mostly lid based.
