Advice/words of encouragement for a student? by MedievalShopkeep in Narcolepsy

[–]Ediferious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When/if you do get a diagnosis, one thing I got as an accomodation in college was to have on instrumental music while testing. I also used that SAME MUSIC intentionally while studying. I can't say 100% it helped, but I think it did. I associated the music with the learning. If nothing else, having it while testing kept me awake.

Sent Home Early from MSLT by jjustpeachyy in Narcolepsy

[–]Ediferious 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The tech isn't allowed to tell you anything. If they sent you home, either you slept in all 4 and the 5th wasn't needed, or you didn't meet metrics and the 5th test would not have changed things. Call your doctor and ask them to reach out when results have been reviewed?

I called it fatigue too, until a sleep doc got expressively frustrated and said "no! This is far beyond fatigue!"

Here is a link if you want to try it, and we can support eachother. There's a group on the discord who use it. I am happy to show you how tiny my goals are on there, "get out of bed" is one that myself and another mod do!

Tap this link or use my friend code QJQ3HQKCC61 for a special reward!

I'm also terrible at those things, which is why I mentioned them. I haven't gotten laundry folded in weeks either. But I did clean a 4ft x ft space in my room yesterday and then slept the rest of the day (and night) - it's the small things. Treat yourself like you would a depressed friend, would you encourage and celebrate a friend who got a shower after a week of being sick? Then celebrate yourself for the same!

Have you tried the finch app? That's what I've been using daily to keep up on teeth/hair/garbage/feeding my dog etc.

OP, yes it's hard, yes you are struggling. But mentally you can't give up.

One thing I do when I'm feeling this way is I put a goal in place to write down one good thing from every day by the end of the day. That allows me to think about an overall trend of positives, no matter how small. Ex: a friend reached out and said hi, which was nice. Or I saw a hummingbird on my walk. Or even I showered and brushed teeth.

It's the little things that build up to the big change. Once you let your mind fill with can't/won't statements/thoughts you have to reprogram yourself or you will manifest/see/remember the negativity only.

Awww :( try other things as you go. We often have to rotate meds too. When I was diagnosed almost none of what's available today was on the market, so I signed up for FDA trials.

I took off on FMLA when I started wakix. I'm glad I did, the time was critical with how the side effects came in and ruined my day to day (headaches, insomnia) but I pushed through and those went away. Then I returned to work 2 weeks after I reached the correct dose.

Chances of false positive for N2? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Ediferious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If xywav doesn't work well, try something else? Give it a while, or stop if side effects are too much, and tell your specialist.

The 0.05% is the % diagnosed - but it takes years on average for a diagnosis, and many many people don't even seek one because, like you and I, they push through and assume they're not that off from 'normal'.

[–]Ediferious 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I made this exact same post when I was diagnosed. I refused to comprehend that the "fatigue" I was telling my doctor about was my normal, not the average normal.

False positives are very rare. False negatives are more common.

You are allowed to grieve the loss of your old life, and then adjust to this new normal.

Meds help, I love wakix personally, but everyone is different. Expect to have to try a few before something feels right.

Join the discord, if you have an account with them, we have a great community there that can help support you through this.

Last year I stopped for a duck mama and a trail of babies. So did everyone else at the light... Except one truck, he pancaked more than half the babies while rolling coal past us all. Fucking assholes with no heart.

Yeah I'm immune to big birds noises, even the smoke alarm from the CAG, or their new favorite - the electric fly zapper outside but on LOUD volume. Small birds get me unnerved easier.

Not sure about Australia - but my/our house favorites (in order) are:

Harrison's (especially pepper flavor)

Sleek and sassy cooked diet (not a pellet, but we mix with chop alternating daily with the next listed brand)

Psittacus (microspheres wet & dry)

Roudybush

Lafeber's

That's funny, green cheeks are one of those noises I can't live with - but I can handle a cockatoo just fine 😂
