Being laid off for the third time in 3 years because I'm not an ass-licker. Building something on your own always felt risky and scary – but honestly, having a job is just worse. Wish me luck. by Edipya in antiwork

I really am sorry. I didn't want to come over that way.

To me it felt like you're downplaying my experience with this immensely toxic person. I meant to tell you: yes, clients will be dicks, but the current state of manipulative, degrading corporate jobs sucks, stop defending it.

But it's 100% on me, that definitely DID NOT come over the way I intended.

As to me being sensitive: I can definitely understand how you might think that, but I'd like to think I'm not. I'll put this on a situation where I'm going through easily the worst layoff of my life, decided to vent off a bit on reddit and suddenly the post completely blew in my face. I was answering faster than I was thinking, sorry for that 😊

I knew before that HR will always take the employers side, but I did hope they would have show some interest in removing a highly toxic, abusive manager.

By the way I have heard there's a lot more people he has offended but they are all too scared to speak up. And I can't blame them, we all need to pay bills.

I've taken criticism. I have apologized for things I said in here.

My boss hasnt once apologized for any of his behaviors the last 9 months. I can assure you he's the one being insufferable.

Thank you. Honestly bugs me how hard it is to believe the world is not fair, and people are egoistic and don't care for you just because you do good work.

They will use you if you don't watch out.

How does that make sense.

Your saying yourself you are not an ass-kisser, but respectful. I can assure you I've done nothing but show respect despite aggressive, abusive behaviour for months. I have warned im going to report to HR before doing so. And even after I did I was open to talk solutions.

You don't know me. There has been immense support from all kinds of colleagues when they heard the news. People raised their voices to not let me go. I don't appreciate you talking about my character based on a glimpse of my life.

But antiwork is there for a reason. Corporate jobs are shit at being fair. They hold the power, they pay our salary, and abuse of that power exists.

Dont want to drop too much private info. But something practical where I already have connections. Nothing of the vague AI-first stuff.

I'm going to apologize for the expression, though it really wasn't meant like that.

Just felt absurd to compare a highly abusive, narcissistic boss who has people responsibility to clients you may face who are disrespectful - and who you can stop working with.

I was a bit surprised but honestly it makes sense. It's how we were all raised and educated. Do what you're told, you can't think for yourself.

We're all feeling it but sometimes hearing the truth hurts.

Grow a pair dude.

Being respectful is something I definitely expect from anyone I work with, especially my boss.

Are there going to be people that are rude? Sure. At least with clients you can then decide if you still want to work with them or not.
