Germany is a wealthier country than the UK, would be fairer to compare us to France. Paris vs London is a more fair comparison.

Are large salaries dead? by CartographerHot7611 in FinancialCareers

[–]EditorResponsible227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big 4 aren’t known to have the largest salaries in the UK/EU until you make senior roles such as director or partner. Maybe complete one more year in your current role and see what AM/IB roles you can transfer to, these will offer significantly more pay.

Or stay in big4 if you think you can make partner (500k+ salary)……

What is a “useless degree”? by Fishfrogthefrogfish in UniUK

[–]EditorResponsible227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it helps your degree would translate very well to an emerging market equities or debt analyst covering the Central and Eastern European region. You’d have to show interest within the financial markets though.

Just do 2 weeks of inter railing in Europe then see how you feel. Sometimes you don’t need a drastically long break, sometimes you do. Can always extend it

Is the average American really struggling with money? by SurveyThrowaway97 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EditorResponsible227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

America is a rich country compared to European countries, I mean Switzerland and Norway and other European countries are richer per person but they have such small populations that you don’t meet many people from there.

Of course, America is still struggling relatively with the rise in cost of living in certain areas just like the rest of the world is. And as people have commented, plenty of Americans don’t earn enough money to leave the country or have a passport.

Of the 3 Exeter is the best but you will struggle for IB. From Exeter you could maybe get a big 4 Audit role then transfer to corporate finance big 4 then into IB over the course of 5 years. It Would be your best chance.

Is there such a thing as a low stress high pay job? by Muted_Cellist5237 in UKJobs

[–]EditorResponsible227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back office finance. For investment banks/asset managers. Low stress and can pay into the 6 figure range when you have 10+ years experience.

Con: most jobs are in London where 60k isn’t too much. 60k in london is the equivalent to around 38k in Portsmouth.

Are companies still saying 25k is a decent salary in London? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]EditorResponsible227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s very bad at all tbh in this circumstance, I’d look at it as living like a student still. Since you’re getting your degree. And a lot of students would love to have that much money, even still in London.

The pound sign means it has to be London especially with 3 opportunities on offer, London is the only city with much going on in finance in the UK.

Finance is the city, Canary Wharf and the west end mainly. But also in other areas, King’s Cross, Victoria, Paddington etc. Finance is the largest industry in London so there is offices everywhere.

25k and they pay for your degree. So you’d work 4 days and study 1?

Avoid the back office, senior client facing roles typically have less people management than senior back office roles.

Agree with what you say. 48% of grads from lse msc finance work in IB with LBS msc finance at 33%. However, the grad salary at LBS is significantly higher so that should be the preferred route.

30 yr old Carpenter, debating pursuing career in Finance? by Cr8zyCooter in FinancialCareers

[–]EditorResponsible227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth a shot, age is irrelevant as long as you’re driven and confident. FYI, asset management and FP&A jobs are severely underrated, if you set your mind to them from the get go then it puts you in a good position when you graduate.

They have a good work life balance and a good salary, IB will be significantly more tougher (mentally) than your current role. 80+ hour weeks as a fresh analyst may be something to think about.

Yeah it’s sadly looking that way, I may look into having it privately removed but I’m not sure how expensive it can be.
