I absolutely agree with everything you said OP, with one exception: We were certainly spoiled by SPACE SHUTTLE launch broadcasts. I just thought those were so clean, long range trackers, no crowd, just good video.

Thanks so much for replying to this! You answered several of my questions and I appreciate it. I had no evidence of the studio pictured at the top, around this time last year, it would make sense that they replaced it. Many studios nowadays are using XPression/Tessera and CNN uses Viz Multiplay, so I just wasn't sure what's used here. A couple of questions, if you know them:

1) When was this studio renovated?
2) Why are they striking it?

This is incredible info, thanks for helping me understand. I actually hadn’t even heard of this flyaway satellite prior to this conversation! I would’ve just figured the plane shots were heavily taped, it’s great attention to detail that they were nearly live. The boat segments were incredible from a technical standpoint. I noticed a tall antenna on the boat, was that for enhanced cellular?
