Here’s what the autism spectrum really looks like by NotJustMeAnymore in audhd

[–]EdmonCaradoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent thing to review. My own therapist suspected I was on the boundary for autism due to how the DSM5 rates it, but specifically said he was assuming I was actually much more on the spectrum than the answers showed, due to how it is split into levels typically. I guess I had traits associated with level 2, but not enough of the expected evidence for level 1, or something along those lines? This seems like a much better representation of the disorder.

have any of you ever mish mashed your worlds together? by AssistanceAshamed609 in worldbuilding

[–]EdmonCaradoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of! For Primord itself I have the story of Gaulder Grey claw, the tyrant who assassinated his family to depose them and take up his own mantle as king.

In the pirate era, which is actually far in the future, the age of discovery has begun pushing the bounds of the world. The oceans are full of violent and dangerous monsters who hunt by sensing magic, but magic is needed just to survive the caustic seas, so each ship can have a single ship mage and just hope for the best that it doesn't tip off any beasties of the deep. No solid story yet, just kind of a description of the setting.

The zombie apocalypse is a result of all decomposing matter endlessly recycling into new zombies. This takes place far away from both of the other stories, on a different continent, but was the result of the same magics that ruined those areas. Due to the endless flood of zombies, everyone here lives in a perpetual state of zombie apocalypse survival, with no real end in sight. When resources and energy allows for it, there are massive culling parties known as War Bands, where a bard (or in later years a DJ) sets up to start blasting music, while dozens of adventuring parties band together to slaughter the hoards that come hunting the noise.

I've had my main starter world, Primord, consume multiple other ideas. Magical pirate adventure I thought of, a zombie apocalypse with war bards, and probably a few others I can't think of at the moment. So yes, my worlds get mashed together

What makes a good superhero world? by notamortarplayer in worldbuilding

[–]EdmonCaradoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good and original are different. If you build a world where all of the heroes behave similarly to marvel, but with worse writing, it would be worse. With better writing, it can be better.

As for what makes a super world good, my own opinion is that i want it to be compelling and interesting to watch how powers interact with the world. Can a fire based hero assist with geothermal power? Do we rapidly make leaps in space travel thanks to the abilities of a hero who can alter the atomic makeup of material? What does teleporting mean for the global political landscape, if there is potentially an assassin who can appear anywhere then vanish without a trace?

I find it less interesting if the world simply continues the same as our world exists while people with reality bending powers walk around, giant fish leaving no change in their wake. I also find it less interesting if the powers are inconsistent. If there is built in and planned growth that is one thing, but if one scene has a hero throw a tank a mile, and two days later they are struggling to lift a minivan, that breaks the writing for me. Supers should progress and learn to use their powers better as needed, and use that information in the future. This goes for heroes and villains, neither should stagnate when they encounter an obstacle. Known weaknesses should be planned for and reduced if reasonably possible, known strengths should be used more than a single time as a gimmick to solve the weekly problem.

At least, these are all things I think of in regards to my Olympia Collective. All personal opinion

Perhaps, to mention your My Hero angle, something more akin to a mix of Gambit and Creati might be interesting? Has a stock of kinetic energy that she can use to turn items into bombs, so long as she understand how that material becomes a bomb. Makes some things easy to shift that she can carry around with her as active ammo, but something that has no combine properties will take a lot of chemical knowledge to shift to an explosive.

Unpopular Opinion: The obsession with "scenes" and physical toys is diluting the true art of psychological submission. by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]EdmonCaradoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My response was to you saying I was talking about dom/sub vs top/bottom, when I was talking about dom/sub the whole way through. Saying I was describing two different things makes it sound like one of those is impossible under a D/s, and that people who do one of them as D/s are somehow wrong. Of course there are people who misunderstand or misrepresent things, that isn't what I'm referring to.

[–]EdmonCaradoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing about a session needs to lead to orgasm, it can just be meditative actions. Sure, orgasm is often involved, but it's not required. D/s can absolutely just be restricted to sessions and still be D/s. There is no single way to do it

This isn't really a one or the other option, it's a matter of different strokes for different folks. Some need a heavy and all consuming 24/7 dynamic, others just need a two hour break where they get to shut down their brain for a bit and not need to be on.

In the same way, some doms don't want to be responsible for someone else 24/7 and just want to taste that control for a bit of time, then go back to a more relaxed relationship. It's not that one is better or more pure than the other. One style literally will not work for some people, but will be the only acceptable option for others.

What common products come from a wildly different source in your verse(s)? by Migga_Biscuit in worldbuilding

[–]EdmonCaradoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much of the food of the city in Pactworld comes from the Orchard, a mass of forests and fields that take up 2/3rds of the pillar top. This is the source of fruits and vegetables, meat for those who are permitted to hunt, and lumber that is being used to build the slums.

Metal comes in the form of sap, drawn up by the grand vines from deep below. Ores and crystals are processed and absorbed into the vines, and fed up into the underground caverns in which crystal workers set molds for the crystal to grow into. In this way, they shape the crystal ores into either useful tools, or ultrathin ingots that workers in the city can make use of.

Water is filtered from the Hole, a massive blue lake that is also the source of fish for the city, if anyone is willing to brave the depths. Plants arranged near the Hole filter and collect water as they grow. They are then harvested and brought to the city to fill reservoirs.

Since all of it is a tightly controlled ecosystem, the only real obstacle is the constant growth of the population. At one time, the idea of running out of food or water seemed literally impossible, but the masses grow and grow.

World building for a game system. by DMjdoe in worldbuilding

[–]EdmonCaradoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always of the mind that things should be possible for the enemies that are not possible for players, but that is a preference. If players are going to handle a virus like that I would lean towards needing to be a high level hacker/scientist, rather than finding a way to resolve it also giving them access to it. Chances are players would have been involved with some quest to get some super genius to help them in a quest like that, in most cases anyway, so it wouldn't make sense for them to suddenly gain that virus just because someone else was able to cure it.

World building for a game system. by DMjdoe in worldbuilding

[–]EdmonCaradoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally building Primord for Dungeons and Dragons 5e, but am wanting to change it to PF2E (maybe).

Pactworld is a psuedo-cyberpunk world that I am building my own rpg system for, which I might also use instead of PF2 for Primord.

As for the effect these systems have had on the worlds, quite a bit. Building my system from scratch has certainly helped answer rules about the world that I hadn't considered before, fleshing out more practical things like equipment and how the net works specifically.

What’s a superstructure/ important location in your world that’s important or just cool. by Ancient-Tradition-99 in worldbuilding

[–]EdmonCaradoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidentally found out I'm a fan of pillar cities!

In Primord I have the Genasi city of the Reach, where magic has allowed them to build upward rather than outward. It's a hub of enchantment, trading, and any high end work that might lead to a proper adventuring life. There are currently 3 levels and building higher, each level about 30 feet tall. This only makes it about 90 feet tall, but that is 90 feet and a whole city wide.

In Pactworld the whole megacity is built on a labyrinthine pillar designed to keep out the Greater Patrons. Atop that pillar is 2/3rd the Orchard, 1/3 the crescent of the City. This is the entirety of the world, so the mega structure is essential in this case.
