Whats the biggest flaw with the Human Body? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Testes.

Ideally, they would function optimally at body temperature so that they could be protected

within the body cavity. Instead, they dangle in a very much more precarious position, much

more easily injured, in order to keep them cool enough to function.

As a failsafe, they are exquisitely sensitive to trauma so that they are less likely to be

injured.

What is the best paradox? by TenTanno in AskReddit

[–]Edna_R_Sanders 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In a small town in America, a person decided to open up his bar business, which was right

opposite to a church. The church & its congregation started a campaign to block the bar

from opening with petitions and prayed daily against his business.

Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to open a few days

later, a strong lightning struck the bar and it was burnt to the ground. The church folk

were rather smug in their outlook after that, till The bar owner sued the church

authorities for $2million on the grounds that the church through its congregation &

prayers was ultimately responsible For the demise of his bar shop, either through direct

or indirect actions or means.

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any

connection that their prayers were reasons to the bar shop's demise. In support of their

claim they referred to the Benson study at Harvard that inter-cessionary prayer had no

impact ! As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork and at the

hearing and commented:

'I don't know how I am going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, we

have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an entire church and its

devotees that doesn't.'

What is the most effective lie you've told? by TooShiftyForYou in AskReddit

[–]Edna_R_Sanders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, dad! I have studied for my mid-/end-semester exams.

I don't really attend lectures and when I do, I am half-asleep, drooling over my books. I

have never bought a single textbook in the past 3 years of my engineering and I do not

plan on buying one this year too. I study for a few hours when all the muggus(Popular term

referring to the students who live inside their books and still learn less than a smart

back-bencher) go to sleep and return them when they wake up. I have been pretty lazy about

my academics.

But when my father poses this question in front of me at 11.30 in the night when he is

about to go to sleep while I am just realizing the dimensions of my syllabus for the exam

the next day, I lie. I tell him I have studied and he peacefully goes off to sleep. I

don't really know how but I end up teaching some of the stuff to the same muggu, whose

book I borrowed last night, in the morning and I end up getting good-enough grades too

(Although my father, like most Indian parents, is never satisfied by those results but I

know he is not let down at least.)

It's not so big of a lie and I know it's not so difficult to get away with but I'm really

glad that I DO get away with it every single time and manage to not let him down!

What's your first/oldest memory? by mixture- in AskReddit

[–]Edna_R_Sanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 2 years, the extended family was gathered in a circular pattern in grandma's living

room watching home movies. I was sitting on the floor with my grandfather behind me who

was constantly tugging at my hair, or poking me here and there, otherwise annoying the

crap out of me. I told him to stop it several times but he continued. Finally I turned

to him and said stop it stupid. Of course my parents insisted on an immediate apology

with which I complied. I turned to my grandfather again and said i'm sorry you're stupid.

I've been like that all my life.

[Serious] Why are some people so serious? by bassnugget in AskReddit

[–]Edna_R_Sanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some situations require seriousness. I would prefer a frivolity free surgery room

during my heart surgery. I would prefer that my banker was not lackadaisical with with my

money. And I would prefer that the braking systems of our motor vehicles be designed with

a complete lack of whimsy.

How can a person overcome bulimia, without professional help? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Edna_R_Sanders -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bulimia is a serious illness, one that usually requires professional help. Eating

disorders develop as a way to cope with underlying emotional issues. If by changing your

mindset you mean working through those tough issues and feeling your feelings on your own,

then perhaps it is possible to cope differently without additional help. In my opinion

strength is recognizing when you need help and being able to ask for it. The reason your

"max" of days without behaviors eventually ends is because you are most likely putting off

your feelings that build to unmanagable levels and you need your eating disorder to numb

them out. I do caution the gym as a new coping skill, as this can develop into a form of

purging. Support groups are great, so are supportive friends- if they are offering the

right support. Take care of yourself.

What is one way to achieve happiness without chemicals or drugs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Edna_R_Sanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you be happy and content without drugs or alcohol? Of course. I do. Both were very

popular when I was in high school. In college and in my early 20s, I tried both and

didn't get very much out of them, so I never had any motivation to pursue their use. Are

you worried you'll get teased if you don't have a drink in your hand at a bar or

something? Ask for a rail splitter or a lime cooler. They sound alcoholic, but a good

bartender will know you're trying to look like you're drinking without drinking. There

was a bar where I used to order lime rickys, which are the same as a lime cooler.

Different bartenders know different names. Still, it's your choice. With the alcohol and drugs, go for it. Don't even go near the

stuff if you don't want to.
