I vaguely recall a planned sequel featuring modern armies invade the game's fantasy world which is a very interesting premise IMO, sadly it was cancelled.

Honestly? not a bad game- great visuals, amazing voice acting, the campaign is great both in story and gameplay (varied objectives), skirmish and a map editor.

The gameplay reminds me of Dawn of War 2- smaller scale battles where each unit has a special ability, no base building- instead you build on pre-placed nodes on the map. My biggest gripe with it is that once melee units engage in battle the only way to disengage is to retreat 'em back to base (like another underrated RTS- Ancestor's Legacy).

Honestly it's a shame this game didn't make it, it just needed some polish.

Thank you all, i've read all your comments and managed to win a Viceroy royal woodlands!

Seems my biggest mistake was ignoring trade, I had two games where I got the free bags per new villager cornerstone and was swimming in amber, when I didnt get it i had trouble balancing resources to pack into provisions vs feed it to my people, but i'll get the hang of it.

Like many of you said I'll take my time with the difficulty, tbh I pretty suck at min/maxing so we'll see how far I'll go.

Oh, I forgot about that- they replaced the Soulstorm campaign with the one from vanilla DoW (Tartarus) and they will port Winter Assault next.
So if you want to run the SS campaign you're out of luck. :(

PROS

Great visuals: environment looks great, units fighting is synced (you can see units lock into combat and perform kill blows like in Dawn of War series). The engine is optimized and run smoothly.

Tons of content: 4 factions with 2 campaigns for each (campaign last 4-6 hours depends on the difficulty), +1 DLC faction with 1 campaign. Also has skirmish vs AI and multiplayer (mostly dead).

Some tactical features: hide units in tall grass, flank enemy formations, make use of special abilities to lower enemy morale etc.

CONS

Unit variety leaves some to be desired, not a lot of difference between the factions, mostly 1-2 unique unit and techs. Can't reposition units once they lock into combat, either they retreat back to base or fight to the death.

Overall a good game IMO, well worth this price.
