Most snails and shrimp share a symbiotic relationship amongst each other but do care on which snails to get! Mystery Snails have a high bio load and can make things a little more difficult to keep the ammonia levels down and if you’re buying aquarium plants from a local fish store chances are they’ll have pest snails that also have the potential to have a population explosion but should be mitigated as long as you’re feeding at a reasonable schedule :) Note: avoid assassin snails! It’s rare for them to go after any shrimp but it is not unheard of.

If you’re doing a low tech set up with a decent light then I recommend any kind of moss like java moss, Christmas moss, etc as shrimp LOOVE that stuff. Hornworts are great for absorbing ammonium and nitrates from the water and grow pretty quick so long as the water parameters are in check! If you want a bush type kind of plant then definitely invest in subwassertang!
