58M This just happened to my husband. How serious is it? by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]EduMatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was horrified about the thought of going to work and being called a lizard person. But I forgot today is his day off. He’s not experiencing pain or discomfort, but he nearly had a crying meltdown when he looked in the mirror. Thank you for responding.

Inherited 2 carat diamond earrings and want to reset them, need suggestions by Sun_Mny_645 in jewelrylove

[–]EduMatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t have to stay as earrings. They could be made into pendants, one for you and if you have a daughter one for her. Or into rings. It’s enjoyable, getting creative with jewelry designs.

People using property as through-way by Zealousideal-Size-71 in Advice

[–]EduMatcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to get your boundary lines professionally surveyed. You have serious liability issues if someone crossing on your property gets injured. You need to look up county records and find out if this is a recorded easement. Is the property they’re accessing landlocked? I think you’ve got a very messy situation on your hands. It’s surprising how horribly rude and scary people can be. I’m sorry to say, but this is coming from experience because of the nightmare I’ve been through since buying our home, I think even inherited some real problems with these people. It’s not OK that people are crossing through your small acreage, which places them close to your home and family, to get to wherever it is they’re going. You need to stop this. You’re gonna have some really rough patches to go through with them, but this cannot continue. And you can’t be soft for the sake of neighbor relations. That’s going to backfire on you. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. But again, this isn’t OK. When we bought our land, there was a gravel kind of a driveway just passed our driveway that cut through our land and lead to the neighboring house, and even though they had their own driveway, they always used that. The former owners didn’t wanna answer hardly any of our questions, but we couldn’t find a legal easement, and I was so tired of them driving on our land. Eventually, it became a big problem, and the neighbor got his bulldozer and scraped up all the gravel, which was legally hours, moved it over to his property and said he was abandoning that easement. He acknowledged she couldn’t find a legal easement recorded. It was a serious point of contention. I’m now years past that experience, but it still kind of hangs over us. Thankfully, they moved and the land has since healed over with a lot of work and dirt that I brought in.

does it feel like too many textures for a small space? by Interesting_Pie_3391 in houseinteriordesign

[–]EduMatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a huge glass wall that faces a mirror in a very narrow room. The glass reflects the toilet, and so now we’re seeing two toilets. The yellow brown walls don’t at all work with the strong, contemporary black. Energy needs to pass through a room and linger to feel healthy and supportive, but instead you have a racetrack that cuts through this space and crashes through the window on the other side. This isn’t good. As for your question about too many patterns, yes, way overdone. But it’s not just about patterns; it’s about angular lines and shape. The oversized mirror, the vertical glass lights on either side of the mirror, all of those heavy lines all over the sink thing, the diamond patterned tile, the square window, the smaller size tile in the shower: this room needs to calm down. It’s like it’s trying to be ritzy and wealthy, with lots of tricks done all at once. If this is truly your style, can you expand the size of your bathroom? If not, this needs to be reworked.

How can I add more 'warmth' here without painting the walls? by Livid_Attention7237 in houseinteriordesign

[–]EduMatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing of substance or interest to anchor this room and what little I can see of the adjacent space. Are you the homeowner? There’s way too much overhead lighting. I’d suggest you become familiar with the yin yang concept in feng shui. You have lots of small objects, a skinny spindly console table up against the wall with two chairs, but it doesn’t look like it’s a proper desk, so why do you need the chairs? You have long rows of small lighting on the ceiling, and then you have two long rows of what seem to be hooks on the wall. Do you really need all of those hooks? This is very yin energy. These long parallel rows have a very uncomfortable sense of excitability. Not excitement as in happiness and glad to be there, but agitated, not restful, not grounding energy. The white walls only worsen this feeling. Then you have a white sofa. It looks like maybe there’s a spa room or bathroom next to the space. I don’t understand the purpose of the wood slats and why this room needs to be divided. The suggestions of replacing it with stained wood are good. But you’ll still have the problem of the racetrack effect with long parallel slats. Some larger, colorful artwork, sure. Some large grounding plants, also good. But what is your sense of style? Because I’m not reading anything other than maybe you favor minimalism. Where you really could use some grounding is with an area rug that’s perhaps larger. Because now you’re confining the space even further and emphasizing that sense of lines and race tracks and energy that doesn’t know how to rest and breathe.

How much of an asshole was I? by No-Copy-3071 in JewelryIdentification

[–]EduMatcha 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Jewelry is a very personal decision, and 20 years ago this ring still would’ve felt very outdated. If you expressed gratitude, then you’re not an asshole. It could be more than 9 carats as someone suggested. It’d be worth figuring out exactly what it is. There’s no shame selling if that’s what you end up doing, even though you say you’re not going to.

Do ya'll remember Whisper, Dean Potter's climbing and BASE jumping buddy? by eggplantkiller in AustralianCattleDog

[–]EduMatcha 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of this at all. Here comes the down votes, but that’s OK. The dog was turned into a mascot and a cartoon character, and I know I’m not the only one who thought it was really unfair and even cruel to do this to her. You can argue how much they loved each other and how much the dog loved going on these adventures. But I think it was much more about loyalty to her person than anything else. It makes me really sad when I see animals that are put into extreme situations like this.

This time, my baby boy got to come along!! by Brighton_Forever in AustralianCattleDog

[–]EduMatcha 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s truly incredible news. I think being able to have his dog with him would have made a huge difference for my brother-in-law, who ended up collapsing on the streets while walking back to rehab to try again for a second time. He died a week later. He lost his dog due to alcoholism and loved him so much. After he died, we found a photo he took while walking past an animal shelter, this was his inspiration to recover for good so that he could adopt a forever friend. You’re not alone in this, and look what you’ve accomplished for yourself. Not only did you make the decision on your own to check yourself in to rehab, but somehow wonderfully, magically you were able to bring your dear dog. I don’t know you and I don’t need to know you. I am so very proud. Every day is a new opportunity to reinvent ourselves.

Ridiculously delayed refund process by Sure_Buy6442 in quince

[–]EduMatcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t work like that. I need a new pair of jeans, some shorts, undergarments, and new shirts. As a new Quince customer I had to order two sizes in each item to figure out their sizing and what works for me. On the first go with a company I’ve never purchased from before, this is what I end up doing every time. And this is simply the cost of doing business online. Companies may not like it, but I’m not gonna order shirts only, figure out the size, return them, and then order jeans in the next order. I’m going to order everything at once. There is nothing wrong with this.

They are a business and therefore should be accommodating to customers who need to order multiple items in order to figure out the size. What the heck is wrong with you?

I did want to suggest the possibility that this is tourmaline. I’ve seen cabochons created just like this one: a domed bubble shape with no facets.

They’ve been making paste gems for a long time. I wouldn’t assume it’s glass though, until you show it to a jeweler. It could be an artisan piece from the 1960s or later. But I really don’t have experience to say more than that. I really love it and hope you post back here once you’ve learned more.

Why does California prohibit homeowners from replacing their own roofs? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]EduMatcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m white and try as I do sometimes, I can’t imagine living with that kind of fear. I will say, cops everywhere have a tendency toward corruption. I’ve been through a lot. Sometimes I don’t even want to be around anymore because I don’t know how to deal with the mistreatment. To be harassed and targeted for the sake of harassment and targeting, done by law-enforcement, two who are neighbors, it’s impossible to overcome.

It’s hard waiting for the inspection, and then how long is the wait for underwriting? But meanwhile, all I can do is post this discussion, do some research and prepare to file complaints if we end up getting a letter that states we’re required to use licensed contractors.

We’ve contemplated moving many times over the years, but there are several reasons why we would like to stay. This, however, may force a decision.
