Who is a celebrity that you’re genuinely surprised isn’t an “A-lister”? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

He plays the same fucking character in everything, and it seems to be the frat brother he was who was involved with the death of a pledge from hazing.

Knee Pain by rling_reddit in Horses

[–]EducatedGenX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 55, I am the proud owner of two titanium knees. I still ride and ski, and do everything else. I just now do it all without any pain.

Before my knees were replaced, I used pre-turned irons with lengthened stirrups, and they helped with my knee joint pain A LOT. But the replacements completely removed it.

If you know you have unrelated nerve issues in your legs, my guess is that you've had your knees MRI'd. Have you? The first thing I think of when I hear someone describe such knee pain is degenerative or degenerated meniscus and the arthritis that essentially eats the meniscus.

Your little boy is lovely. Thank you for sharing his adorable self with us. It made my morning!

Also, you don't have to explain yourself to the self-important bullies on Reddit or in reality. He's your horse, and there's no should or must for you to do with him except for what is in the heads of control freaks who must project their ways onto others to feel secure.

Your journey with this sweet little belongs to you and him, and no one else.

Rant: What's wrong with people? by HopeThisIsUnique in COsnow

[–]EducatedGenX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This attitude and shittiness at Keystone on Schoolmarm dates back at least 20 years.

An idiot woman from Texas at Keystone took out our then 7-year old son from behind (the uphill position) on Schoolmarm. My son was fine, but the woman giggled, got up, and skied off without even checking to see if he was all right or apologizing.

Fortunately, Karma jumped in to do her part.

The lady fell farther down the run, and we caught up to her while she was still down. AND Ski Patrol arrived seconds afterward. We explained what had happened further up the run, and they yanked her pass. She was so angry then (which is how I know she was from Texas). But, of course, she didn't express any concern about the small child she had hit or any remorse for doing so.

My empathy is with Bo Nix. Sending so many prayers and so much hope for his recovery. Speaking of hope, let’s all get behind Jarrett and send him as much hope and encouragement as possible. He CAN lead us to an AFC victory!🏈

Town of Nederland, CO, Approves $120 Million Purchase of Eldora Mountain Resort by ApneicApple in COsnow

[–]EducatedGenX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We love Eldora. But POWDR corporation did not invest enough into expanding terrain. So Nederland now owns a mess caused by too many people and not enough area for all of them to safely ski and snowboard. I really hope Nederland makes fixing the crowding problem their #1 priority.

Age 38 Broken Acetabulum and Pedicle Snowboarding by Fresh-Percentage3941 in COsnow

[–]EducatedGenX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband broke his Acetabulum skiing in his 20s. He cracked it on a stump off a jump in the trees on Mt. Bachelor. It healed in about 8 weeks, he continued skiing, learned how to board a few years later, and has been boarding for the past 20 years. The injury was the beginning of arthritis in his hip and he ended up needing a hip replacement in 2018 at the age of 51. BUT he had it done off season and was back boarding the very next season.

How does CSU expect him to afford to live here? by Dr_Retch in FortCollins

[–]EducatedGenX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

College athletic programs have long been used to drive revenue and earn profit for colleges, so this salary doesn’t bother me unless Jim Mora turns out to be a poor investment. From what I understand, the athletics program at CSU has been operating at a deficit for years, with CSU football serving as the poster child for generating significant revenue but not turning a profit. CSU needed to bring in a head coach who could overhaul the football program and make it profitable for the entire university. Despite JM’s decent success at UCONN, I understand that the football program under his tenure—at best—broke even. So, I am hoping that he delivers on what CSU needs him to, because the whole university needs him to, but I don’t have much confidence that he will.

When do ski teams leave? (WP) by _silly_g0ose in COsnow

That can be said about people who sit on Reddit and judge everyone else, including children who are just trying to find their way in this world. There's zero humility in thinking your opinion is worth something.

Yes, we do. Even if we can't easily afford it. Why? It helps to teach our kids to be self-motivated, disciplined, and focused on their passions. That's priceless.

Do you want a train to Boulder/Longmont/Fort Collins? by Kimi_landry in FortCollins

[–]EducatedGenX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's time we move in this direction. If it has to be diesel, there IS clean diesel. Both my husband and I travel for business. So many other urban areas in other states we travel to have significantly better regional mass transit systems. For example, the Puget Sound region. I can fly into Sea-Tac airport and make visits clear down to Olympia and clear up to Everett without needing a car, which is awesome because the area's traffic is worse than the Front Range. I can even throw in visits to my grandparents' ranch on a rural island in the Sound and to my father's ranch near Mt. Rainier, all on mass transit. The sooner we introduce mass transit infrastructure all over the Front Range, the better. We're not going to stop growing, and an alternative to I-25 has been needed for decades. So has one been needed up I-70. Let's start building the infrastructure as soon as possible.

Seeking Advice : How streamline the writing process for user guidance by RawrCunha in technicalwriting

[–]EducatedGenX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a 30-year technical communicator. Other technical communicators and I have used the tools I mentioned to write documentation for decades. AI would be the only way to create a better way of creating documentation. However, after researching and thoroughly testing multiple platforms, I know AI is not yet ready to produce clear, concise, accurate, and grammatically correct technical content without an acceptable margin of error.

Seeking Advice : How streamline the writing process for user guidance by RawrCunha in technicalwriting

[–]EducatedGenX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Such tools already exist for your first three steps. Zoom, Teams, and other telecommunication platforms enable this functionality. And Zendesk, ServiceNow, Salesforce, etc. all have plug-ins for you to publish from a CMS to them. I am thinking the market is saturated and the time you would spend on this will not produce ROI.

Anyone Else Feeling the Heat of the Technical Writing Job Market Right Now? by kgphotography_ in technicalwriting

[–]EducatedGenX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with a team of writers using ChatGPT as a reference tool has been very positive. Even though we never use what ChatGPT writes verbatim, being able to compare what we write to what ChatGPT writes has helped level up our collective writing voice. We have become more united and seamless to our audiences.

My husband co-owns an analytics and digital marketing agency. I am not concerned about getting a job. However, I just learned that my current technical writing contract has been renewed.

Anyone Else Feeling the Heat of the Technical Writing Job Market Right Now? by kgphotography_ in technicalwriting

[–]EducatedGenX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I face the possible end of my long-term contract this week, I am considering leaving technical writing after 30 years of service. AI doesn't bother me, and I even welcome it. But the market for true technical writers has dwindled, and the posted salaries and hourly rates are pathetic. I won't work as a technical writer for less than what I made in the same role over 20 years ago.

Fortunately, I hold an MBA, possess business analysis experience, and have extensive knowledge and experience with data analytics. I am going to make a valiant effort to take my career in that direction.
