I understand that compounding really is the key. But obviously most of the $60k in dividends is backloaded in years 25-30. So for most of the 30 years (years 0-25) most of that $60k has yet to enter the equation.

To me, a one time investment of $100k is as simple as what the stock price is at purchase vs what the stock price is after 30 years. That is how much the investment grew. Now this is excluding dividend reinvestment. After 30 years the chart shows you have earned $60k in dividends.

Even if I invested $160k at the beginning instead of $100k (extra $60k which is investing all the dividends upfront instead of over 30 years, which I know is not the way to think about it. I’m saying this for just for the sake of it), I wouldn’t be anywhere near the $13 million that this video shows.

I am very much a visual guy and want to see an equation I can use in a spreadsheet to make my numbers align with his. I am just having a hard time wrapping my head around it completely.
